Paul and his crew were polite, professional, and got everything done on budget and on time. We got three quotes for this job, and Allgeier fell in the middle. The highest quote we got was one that said they had a dust removal system that would significantly cut down on the dust during the project. Allgeier did not say they had this, but I can tell you the dust we saw was minimal. They taped off the rooms where they weren't working to keep some of it out, but there was honestly hardly any. There was a ton of glue on the floors so the sanding took a lot of work. They let me try 6 samples stains side by side before picking the stain color I wanted. Overall, the floors look fantastic, Allgeier was prompt, answered our questions, gave us options, and were very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend and would use again. We trusted the two people who were in our home to work in the house while we were out of town. No problems at all.
Description of Work: We had almost our entire first floor of original 2 inch hardwood floors refinished. Portions of the floor were very worn down, while a big part of them had been glued over with 12 x 12 teak parquet tiles. Since the parquet was easy to pop off the floor, we did the removal of the floors ourselves. Allgeier sanded down all the floors and stained for us. We did the project in two phases so we did not have to move out of our house while we did this, and one week (when we were doing the bedrooms) we were on vacation. .

We noticed that Allgeier did not put putty around the boards in the kitchen, unlike other hardwood installation companies that we have worked with. About 9 months after the work was done, an area in the dining room (old wood)--right next to where they had installed a new board--buckled and the board broke in half. We asked Allgeier to look at the buckled board and they came promptly but they refused to replace the board, saying that we would have to pay to have a new board installed. They insisted that it was our fault (too much humidity) that the board broke despite the fact that they had installed the new board too close to the old board, now allowing for expansion. They wanted for us to pay for a new job instead of correcting the mistake that we believe that they made. They did put in putty where it had never been applied. We had worked with Allgier in the past and thought they did excellent work; the company is under new ownership and the work is substandard and the attitude is anything but helpful.
Description of Work: We had damage to our kitchen floor because of a leaking refrigerator. We also had a place in our dining room that warranted the replacement of two boards. Allgeier removed the bad wood, installed new hardwood, sanded and polyurethened the wood.

Response from Allgeier Flooring Co
The cracked flooring boards are a result of not maintaining environmental conditions to National Wood Flooring guidelines of relative humidity between 30 - 50 percent and temperature of 60 - 80 degrees. Flooring will expand and contract outside these guidelines causing cracking and cupping. The floor was filled at time of repair however the area in front of the refrigerator was missing the putty, again caused by environmental conditions with the heat of the refrigerator compressor blowing directly on the area causing expansion and contraction with the putty working its way out.
