The one thing I did not like about them is that the fee that they charge you for coming out or the diagnoses fee, most of the companies if you have the work done with their company do not charge that fee but this company added it on top of what they charged. I did not like that. Over all they did their work well. I will not use them in the future. I will find someone else who will incorporate their service charge into your price. I do not remember to accept a portion nor did I ask either I just assumed that they would do it.

On one of the first of many 90 degree + days this past summer our 35 year old A/C went out. I contacted Allgeier Air (whom I have done business with in the past) and the service man arrived a few hours later. He said I could either fix the fan in the outside condenser or replace the unit. I decided to get a quote for a new outside unit. The owner, Rick Allgier scheduled an appointment with me the next day to give me my options. I received an option for replacing the outside unit only, then I also asked for a heat pump option (I work in the energy efficiency field so I know with this type of unit I could not only save energy, but also save on my utility bills). Rick gave me three options 1. A/C only 2. Single Speet Heat Pump 3. Dual Speed Heat Pump. After review with my husband and looking over the cost savings and of course asking Rick for his professional opinion we decided to install the dual speed heat pump. Yes it was more money, but the potential cost savings was going to out weigh that incremental cost. I was also able to take advantage of the Kentucky Home Performance program low fixed rate financing. So I not only have a cost savings heat pump installed, I also received a 3.99% loan to pay for it. Our unit was ordered an installed in less than a week. The first couple of days we had a fuse blow and Rick personally came out to access the situation and replace the fuse. Since then we have nothing but good things to say - our utility bills have been lower than they ever have been - we have saved over $200 in roughly 4 months!!! They have been a great company to work with and I know I am in good hands for any service issues that may come up. THANK YOU Allgeier Air for a great and painless process!

Overall I am extremely satisfied with the Allgeier Team, Rick the owner came out to the job 2 times to make sure that we were happy. He made many suggestions and also consulted with my basement remodeler about new vent pipes in the basement. He was awarded the HVAC poriton of my remodel, and did a great job. The employees of the Allgeier Team are very polite and professional, always eager to explain what they were doing and how it would effect the comfort level of the house using a new system. This was the first time I have ever had to replace a furnce and A/C, hopefully I will never have to again, but if I do I will call Rick and the Allgeier Team.
Description of Work: The Allgeier Team installed a New 90% Effeciency Furnace and A/C unit. Installing the new upgrade furnace required PVC venting out of wall of the house, and adding a new return vent to allow better air flow. Also, installed new venting for the newly furnshed basement. Installing the outdoor unit was not as easy, the unit was installed orginally next to the dryer vent, so the Allgeier Team made some suggestions to me that allowed the dryer to vent away from the outdoor unit and not harm the service of the unit.

One of my outside A/C Compressors was making a humming sound and was not running. I pulled the power and went for the yellow pages, to look for a repairman. I choose Allgeier Air because they advertised in the yellow pages as having no service call charge and no charge for diagnosing the problem, if you mention that you found them in the yellow pages, which I did. They failed to mention that they just add those charges onto the cost of the part(s). The Repairman came when he was suppose to, diagnoised the problem, replaced the defective part and started the unit. He was on the job for less than 15 Minutes. When he told me what the part cost, $179.97 I told him I had neved heard of a capacitor costing that much, he said that was the price. After the repairman left I went to the A/C units Manufactures web site and found the part for $7.32. To me it apparent that Allgeier Air is falsely advertising in the yellow pages. I did call Allgeier to complain about the excessive charge, the gentleman I talked to promised to call me back but as of this today (9/7/11) I haven't recieved a call, and I really don't expect one. I will definitely not advise anyone to use this company in the future.
Description of Work: When I described the the problem I was having, the repairman went directly to the capacitor, checked and replaced it.

Allgeier Air was recommended to me by a colleague. We just moved to the area and bought an older home that had forced gas heat, but no central air. The service representative was responsive and scheduled an estimate within days of calling. The estimate and inspection were thorough and prompt. The service representative provided us with an estimate the following day that had a range of options for installation and equipment. He called us promptly to talk through the differences in the options and answer our questions. He was also candid with us about what was essential and what we could have installed later in order to cut down on costs. Once we signed the contract, the service representative brought over loaner window units right away. We kept the loaner units until the installation was complete. The actual installation was done just a few days later and went smoothly. Our one complaint is that the technician did not wire the unit correctly. We had the unit installed the day before we left for a long vacation and we had planned on keeping the house cool while we were gone. Unfortunately, none of us realized the unit was not working. We retuned to a 95 degree house two weeks later and were shocked! A call to Allgeier had a 24 hour service technician to our home by 9pm that Saturday night. He worked on the unit unit until 10:30, discovered the problem, and fixed it at no charge. Though we would have preferred the unit be wired correctly the first time, mistakes happen and the way that Allgeier handled the problem speaks volumes about their integrity. The technician and the service representative acknowledged the mistake and apologized.
Description of Work: Allgeier Air installed a high-efficiency, hybrid AC unit in a 92 year old home we bought. Services included an estimate, full house inspection (including wiring and all duct work) as well as an AC unit, heat pump, and thermostat installation.

I use them for my heating and air conditioning systems. I’ve got a dual thermo system. I’ve tried several different vendors before coming on to these guys and they do a very good job for me. They come twice a year on my maintenance plan. I pay $180 a year and it covers a variety of things including 2 of the annual trips. My best interest is to stay on their annual plan. I’ve tried several vendors who professed that they were good in geothermal systems only to find out that they really weren’t, but these guys do seem to know what they are doing. I’m happy with them and I would continue to use them in the future.

We found that our furnace had a crack in the heat exchanger. That meant that they had to turn off our furnace, being very cold that week, I needed to find someone who could put a new furnace in quickly. I got on Angie's list, started reading the reviews and made calls to see who I could talk with, who could come that day, and how quickly they could put the furnace in. Of the three businesses I found, we had decided upon having Allgeier Air put in our the new furnace. The largest reason is that they offered a fifteen year parts and labor warranty. The second largest reason was that they would be able to come out the next day. That warranty was the best selling point for us. The other quotes I received were for five years parts and one year labor; and five years parts and labor. Considering that we had just put in a new air conditioner in '07 and found that there was a leak this past summer and I would have to pay for the labor, I wanted a warranty that wouldn't cost me down the line. (The business that we had been using which gave us the one year labor five year parts did come back with ten year parts and labor, which made me wonder "why didn't they offer that in the beginning?".) The sales agent was a bit assertive in the selling aspect, which my husband didn't like, but I was only looking at what they offered in service and warranty. He was honest with us and didn't try to sell us on a larger or more bells and whistles unit, and I did appreciate that. In order for the labor to be in warranty, we would have to have them service it every year and pay $150.00. Well worth it!! I can see myself letting Allgeier Air come out and handling our air conditioner if I feel that our previous company that takes care of it isn't doing what they should.
Description of Work: They came at the specified time (10:00am) and was out the door by 2:30. The men took the old furnace out and put the new more effecient (and quiter) furnace in. They also at no charge to us put a electrical outlet on the furnace for our dehumidifier, (which our previous service people put in but just plugged it into an outlet). They also made sure that there was a good seal at the junction between the furnace and the air ducts going upstairs, (which our previous service people conveniently failed to point out).

The representative was very arrogant about their success on A.L. Nothing turns a prospective customer off more than by running down the competition. Secondly, she told me that they will probably not be the lowest bid since they use superior equipment. When I received the estimate, it included the Goodman equipment, which is widely known to be of the lowest quality in the furnace industry. Not only that, but the representative who called with the quote could not tell me if the estimate included the additional supply ducts that had been discusseds. Her response was "most likely". Lastly, when asked the BTU rating on the equipment being included in the estimate, she could not tell me. She said "It's a 2-ton unit." Gas furnaces are not measured in tons...that's for A/C units. I don't require that a salesperson have installation expertise, but they should at least know their own products. This company's installation and post-purchase service may be good, but without quality people on the front end, noone will ever know. I advise anyone who gets an estimate from these people to make sure to get at least 2-3 more from other companies.

Response from Allgeier Air
As the owner of Allgeier Air I want to express my appreciation for the comments by the Member. The Member's sales representative, Gwen is still rather new to our company, and she is perhaps still a little rough around the edges, but I am certain that Gwen didn't mean to come off as arrogant. I am very sorry the Member's experience with Gwen was less than great. I want to assure every member of Angie's List that we will work on this going forward. I don't know why Gwen would have only quoted our basic system, but we are a Trane Heating equipment dealer. I apologize if you weren't presented with the Trane product line to choose from. Member, thank you for giving us the benefit of the doubt regarding our installation and post sale service. We do strive to give our clients a great experience and will take your comments and work to improve EVERY aspect of our operation from the sale to final installation and service. Sincerely Rick Allgeier

Our furnace stopped working on Friday, Nov. 26. I contacted the company at 9:15 p.m. The answering service said a technician would get right back to me. I had a call back within 10 min. The technician came to our home at 12:15 a.m. Saturday morning and stayed over an hour to fix our problem. Made a temporary fix and someone brought out the new part and replaced it on Monday, Nov. 29. Both technicians were nothing but professional and pleasant. I would absolutely contact Allgeier again for any heating/air issues. (And, they offer a 10% discount to Angie's List members.)

All work was done in a professional manner and with expert workmanship. The workers listened to the owner's concerns and made adjustments accordingly (moving the furnace exhaust to a new location, making a transition piece in the duct work to allow room for people to pass next to the furnace and basement wall, install a new AC disconnect, install a deflector in the plenum for efficient left and right flow). I would have prefered a detailed drawing and narration of work before work began, however, the job went very well.
Description of Work: Move furnace from end of basement to center of basement, move all duct work from center of basement to one side, move air conditioner outside unit to new location, use existing ducts where possible and fabricate and install new transitions pieces where needed.

We found this company on Angie's List, and called them because they had a high rating. They lived up to this rating. Our original intent was to replace a 50 year old furnace, but the company did a great job of explaining the overall cost benefits and tax credits of the geothermal system that we decided to replace our two existing systems, one on each floor, with the one geothermal system. The salesman was extremely knowledgeable but was in no way pushy. The installation technicians were true craftsmen and were very professional. They were punctual and cleaned up after themselves as they progressed through the job. The owner, Rick Allgeier, made numerous visits to our home and was fully involved in the engineering and thought process of incorporating geothermal equipment into our old home. They promptly responded to all of our questions, making us feel as if we were their only customer. We are very pleased with our new heating and air conditioning system installed by this outstanding company, and we would highly recommend them.

We had another company out a week ago to recharge the refrigerant in our a/c. After a hard sell to replace the entire system I was reluctant to have the same people back to re-repair our system. I called this company after reviewing their rating here. When I called I was told that they couldn't get here until monday. They offered expedited service over the weekend for a premium of $100. My wife was coming home from a trip to Phoenix and it was as hot in our house as it was there. I elected to pay the premium. Ron their serviceman arrived within two hours. He went immediately to the furnace and went to work. He came up and told me that it was either the capacitor or the blower motor. He suggested that I hold my breath and hope that it was the capacitor since it was far less expensive. He replaced the capacitor and we had cool air again! After we settled the bill and he was off I heard a knock on the door.. It was Ron he had forgotten to tell me a tip to help make our system more effective. What Great service! By the way I asked Ron if their was something the other company could have done to sabotage our system and he said likely not, just an unlucky coincidence.

They actually came out on a Saturday. They had to order the part and they came back to put it in. They actually came out early because I had to leave for work. It took longer for the part to come in than what I thought it would. It was three days for the part to come in which wasn?t unreasonable. The guy that came out was nice and professional. They also discovered a problem with my breaker box so I had an electrician out to fix that. It was a breaker that wasn't shutting off which was dangerous. The price was in line with what it should have been, and they gave me a break by not charging me the weekend rate for the part. He also gave us some advice on our thermostat and made suggestions on a better more reliable unit. We bought one and he put it on for us when he came back. The company we had used for years wouldn't come out so I called All Geier. They came out the same day I called them.

While no one likes to replace such a major expense as a furnace and AC unit however Allgeirer made it as painless as a $5000 expense can be. The new unit replaced a old 30 year old and is currently working great. So great in fact that the unit completely filled up the air filter in less than a week?s time, causing a high whistling noise to be heard throughout the house. Fearing the new unit and not wanting to ruin anything I called Jay with Allgeirer (who was extremely helpful) and they had a serviceperson out the same day! It was a simple fix but one they did quickly and at no additional cost to me. Allgeirer was also helpful in providing the paperwork needed to process and receive a state of KY tax rebate for a new furnace and AC unit. All in all it was very good, albeit expensive experience.

I called three different companies, and Allgeirer called me back first. The person who called tried to help me over the phone to see if I can fix it myself. However, I wanted them to come out. The person who came was very thorough and was explaining everything he was doing. He fixed it temporarily and then came back after a week to fix it properly.
Description of Work: I used Allgeier Air last week. They replaced a vacuum switch.
