They did a quick repair job a couple of months later after they installed it. They didn't install it up to the city standards the first time so they had to come back again, which was kind of an inconvenience. Overall they were good.

I am sorry for the inconvenience of the second trip. The particular code issue that was indicated by the inspector was associated with the method the flue pipe had been suspended from the ceiling. This would not have impacted performance or safety, but the inspector was correct to point it out and further validates the need for permits and inspections.

They discovered that my AC wasn't working because it needed a new compressor. The compressor was still under warranty, but labor was not included. They tried to charge me $1,450.00 for labor + freon. I asked how long it would take and they said about 4 hours. $1,450 seemed a little high to me and so I called around. One guy said he could do it for around $900 but he was booked until the following week. The other company I spoke with offered to do it for $800 (including freon). That's $651 or 45% cheaper than what Aire Serv was trying to charge me! I won't bother calling them again.

Service rep was very nice...dug right in and disassembled the outside unit and started to clean it(had never been cleaned in the last 12 years)...told me what he was doing...A/C was being overworked due to debris in the coils...looks like a new unit after being cleaned...low on freon...charged...cleaned coil on the inside unit. Was able to call my home warranty and the tech spoke with them so the Freon and parts that were replaced were covered except for my $60 co pay.
Description of Work: I started their maintenance program...there fore they came out to do the semi-annual on the A/C...

My issue with the company stems not from the service that he provided, but from the exorbitant amount of money that the company wanted to charge me to replace a couple of parts. I admit I knew very little about A/C condensors before today. However, the technician brought in the Capacitor from my unit and showed me that it was in need of replacement, and explained that there was another part (the "contactor") that showed signs of wear. He also suggested that it be freplaced. While he was figuring out the price of these repairs, I went online to check on the going rate to order these myself. The grand total: $45, shipped. $30 for the capacitor, $15 for the contactor. Now get this: Aire Serv's price: $180 to replace the capacitor alone, or over $350 to replace both. I was "getting a deal" if I did both because I was going to get the capacitor replaced for only $90, and then the replacement of the contactor was going to be ~$275. THIS IS ROBBERY! I have now ordered my own parts, and plan to do this myself. From the videos I have watched online, this repair will take all of 20 minutes, maybe 30 since I've never done it before. I realize that most home-owners would not want to take the rout that I am taking, and would prefer to a professional make these repairs. But at the tune of an extra $300 for 20 extra minutes of work!?! Am I right to understand that their time is worth $900/hr? Given all of this, I have to qualify my ratings above. Overall experience: B - they came and provided the service that I hired them for at the price that we agreed upon (but also tried to rip me off) Price: D - See explanation above about what they tried to charge me for a simple repair) Quality: B - For the service that they did provide, I felt that the quality was on par with my expectations Responsiveness: B - He came early, answered all of my questions, and checked the condenser fluid pressure at my request Punctuality: A - he showed up early Professionalism: C - The technician that came gets an A. The company gets an F. Overall I am frustrated, but I am sad to say that I don't think that I would have gotten treated differently by any other company either. Once they start talking about capacitors and contactors, I think most people think they are getting a deal to get a fix for under $500, but don't realize how and quick these repairs actually are. It is a shame that the service industry robs people blind and gets away with it just because of a lack of knowledge.
Description of Work: I called Aire Serv to come tune up my A/C and used an Angie's List coupon. Scheduling my appointment was easy and the technician actually called and was able to come earlier in the day than originally planned. He was a very nice man, and completed all of the details of the "Clean and Check" as described.

Response from Aire Serv of Louisville
I appreciate your comments, and understand why you would be concerned. However, in our industy (as in most) the actual price of the part is a fraction of the actual costs involved in providing the service. The $89 tune up is basically a give a way or loss leader to gain new customers. We believe if we provide you good service that you will use us again when you need repairs or replacement. In your case, the repair was needed during the actual maintenance. If you will consider a few facts about the service we deliver, I believe you will better understand why our charges are what they are. Consider the costs of just getting the van and the technician to your property. The Non productive time, fuel, insurance, and the costs of the $28,000 van. Add the investment in all the test equipment that allows him to diagnose your system, no matter what size or brand, and in this case actually know your capacitor is going bad before it failed. This single item brings enormous value to the table by eliminating another service call for you as well as the uncomfortable down time. Also, please consider that the technician has annual license fees, mandatory continuing professional education, health insurance, vacation, holidays, uniforms, and at least 2 hours per week of customer service training to make sure you feel comfortable with him in your home. Next, add up the costs incurred prior to his arrival. A fully staffed, a technology driven office to accept your call and schedule the tech, the GPS and tracking equipment that helps us keep him on time, and all the billing and paperwork associated with the call. All of these thing must be added to the cost. Another large cost would be the inventory he carries on his truck so he can repair the unit in a short period of time as efficiently as possible. There is approximately $4500 worth of inventory on every one of our service trucks. Not only is there a cost, but it must be accounted for, ordered, picked up and distributed to each van. Some of this inventory turns only once per year. Some is lost to shrinkage and damage of course. Taking the time value of money (it is an investment after all) this is a considerable cost. Then you can move on to warranty. As you would expect, if either of these components should fail in the first year, we would replace them for free! This could mean another trip, more fuel, another part (not warrantied by the manufacturer after 30 days) all at our expense in the name of the customer service that you would expect. Agreed, not everyone fails, but some do and a percentage of the cost must be built into each job. There are several more expenses involved in this transaction such as insurance, maintenance, etc. and then of course we MUST make a profit to continue to deliver this service, offer our employees a stable future, and be in business when you need us again (or warranty your part). However, you generally don't see HVAC contractors leaving multi million dollar legacies behind or owning a yacht or a Rolls Royce. This would indicate that although most of us do make a profit, we are not associated with the super wealthy. With over 250 competitors in our market, some of which DON'T make a profit it would be very difficult to over charge our customers and stay in business for the 36 years we have done so. Hope this helps to make it clear that we are not "robbing" anyone. We do provide a valuable and outstanding service at a fair profit.

Richard was excellent in all aspects. He was very knowledgeable, courteous, and thorough. He even wore booties when inside my house. Overall, this is the best service experience I have ever had. I would highly recommend Aire Serv for any air conditioning repairs you may need. ,
Description of Work: The service person, Richard, diagnosed my A/C system for a leak. He found the source of the leak, a compression fitting on a valve, and repaired the leak. He then added approximately one pound of F-22 to restore the full charge, and then checked the cooling at a register to confirm the cooling capability of the system. I used an Angie's list coupon, for $89.00, to pay for the service which also included a system cleaning. He did not have the cleaning equipment with him, so I scheduled a return, no cost, appointment for the cleaning. Richard came back promptly, as scheduled, to complete a thorough system cleaning. He cleaned the evaporator coil, and installed aluminized tape around the housing to seal any leak points. He then proceeded to remove the frame from the outside condenser to chemically and water wash clean the coils. The A/C system cleaning took over one hour to complete. Previously, last year, another service company, on Angie's list, replaced two pounds of F-22 at a cost of $120.00 for refrigerant plus service charge, without finding any source for a leak. That previous occasion was the first leak in my system after almost 14 years.

the kid that came to the house was very nice and personable. They did exactly what I needed done. I'm sure they were not the cheapest, but cheap was not what i was looking for. I wanted my wife to NOT be creeped out by the service tech, and I wanted them to simply do what they said they would do, and they did. If this gets back to the company.... give that kid a pat on the back, he represents your company very well.

1). March 29 2013 Installation was carried out on time and appeared to be satisfactory. I was especially pleased with the professional appearance of the Furnace installation. Less so with the appearance of the outside AC unit, (see below). In addition to the equipment installation, Air Serv also re-routed the air ducting under the house, so as to move the bedroom air outlet grill from under my bed to a more convenient location in the room. 2). April 3 2013 Service call #1: I had noticed that the outside AC unit was not sitting properly on the pad and that the pad had not been properly leveled, necessitating a leveling wedge which had been placed between the unit and the pad upon which it sat. A service call corrected the problem. 3) April 30 2013. Service call #2: Later, while attempting to set up the thermostat to operate in the "Automatic" AC / Heating changeover mode, I discovered that this was not possible, because the "Single Stage" thermostat which had been installed was not fully compatible with my "two stage" Heating system. A second service call, which necessitated installation of the appropriate thermostat, together with an associated modification of the furnace wiring corrected the problem. Note: Were it not for the fact that I decided to select an alternative mode of operation, this problem could have gone unnoticed indefinitely! Air Serv personnel are friendly folk. They have been quick to address the aforementioned problems, and since the system now operates as it should, I am happy with the end result. The only other associated difficulty I am still having, is in claiming the $100 LG&E efficiency rebate: According to LG&E, part of the required documentation is an "Invoice." I do not have such a document. I simply signed a contractual installation agreement which I immediately paid in full by credit card. LG&E would not accept a copy of the agreement, on the grounds that an agreement to install does not constitute an "Invoice." Also, apparently there is currently some confusion regarding a disparity of component identification numbers reported in the documentation. As of July 12, According to LG&E, they are currently working with Air Serv to resolve the matter. Tom Avery.

Andrew was our service tech and he was fantastic. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was willing to let me shoulder surf and learn more about what he does and why our AC unit wasn't working properly, after having only been in service for one year (not installed by Aire Serv). He took a look at the unit and first determined that the coils were frozen. After thawing that he looked at the unit outside and determined it was a bit low on freon, which is why the coils had frozen. After he filled it, he did find a leak internally and fixed it. After that, we have had nice cold air ever since.

This is a difficult review to write. I was very impressed with the thoroughness and knowledge of the technician (Andrew) throughout the whole service. He had mentioned that someone else had used the same cleaner and it had actually taken some of the paint off of the AC coils giving it a mottled look. He then told about the person trying to use paint to restore it. Don't ever do that he told me. No sooner had he spoken and started to rinse the cleaner off our AC unit when it did the same thing! It apparently does not hurt the operation of the unit but it ages it's look considerably. It was an accident. But it looks bad. He contacted his boss who told him it would be OK to paint it when it was not running. I opted to leave it operational, but ugly. I'm happy with the work he did, but our AC unit looks terrible. He obviously wanted to do something, but the bosses suggestion was exactly what he had told me not to do! Very hard to give a recommendation when I'm left with a problem and no solution.

I haven't had my AC cleaned or checked in many years. I had used the AC the previous week and nothing was wrong when I called, but my electric company recommended it. I called and made the appt. The tech showed up on time. Before cleaning or even looking at the A/C, he went on about different things that could be wrong, etc. He even gave me quotes on what it would cost to replace certain items if he did the service that day or had to come back when "something went wrong" (of course the quote was 2-3 time higher). I found that odd but thought he was being thorough. He went to clean and check the AC. Came back and said everything looked great. Discussed with me and wrote down on my work order that the "condensing fan motor is starting to lose oil-amps.69 rated @.75-replacement- TODAY $325.00, AFTER-$460.29" said he couldn't tell me when it would go bad but he recommends it. 1 week later when I needed the AC, I go to turn it on, does NOT work. This was wednesday before Derby, so I called and it was going to be the following week for them to come look. And on top of that, it was going to be another $65.00 diagnostic fee. The AC was working before it was serviced and did not work after??? I called another company, and they came today to check it. It was a bad capacitor. The funny thing, that was a quote the tech gave me before he even looked at the unit and said it was the most common problem. Clearly, he did not tell me because he wanted to charge me again for coming back and also doubling his price for services needed. I will never use this company again and do NOT recommend.

Response from Aire Serv of Louisville
Customer, I understand your suspicions regarding this service call as it has played out. However our technician did exactly as he is trained, and he was acting in your best interest. The capacitor that the other contractor found bad was most likely a result of the fan motor that our technician reported as failing. A motor with oil all over it usually indicates a bearing failure as verified by the amp draw reported. This failing motor puts an additional strain on the capacitor, so it's failure was likely and predictable. The fact that the repairing servicer replaced a capacitor on a motor with both measurable and visible signs of failure did you a disservice in our opinion. The capacitor and motor will almost certainly fail in the near future, leaving you without air conditioning again, and yet another service call expense. The differences in pricing while we are there, and if we have to make another service call to your home are standard charges. We have additional costs when the call must be taken and dispatched, the technician must again drive to your home, he would have to perform another complete diagnosis to make sure the failed part was the only problem (to eliminate yet another service call), and finally make the repair. For this reason, we try to show the customer the financial benefit of changing parts that we know are failing while we are present, saving you money and inconvenience. I believe it is obvious based on the rest of our reviews, that we try desperately to always operate in the customers best interest. We work to give the customer ample information to make a sound buying decision, and I believe that is what we have done in your case. I apologize for your misconception of our service, perhaps we did not go far enough in our education process, but stand behind everything we have done. We hope, that when your fan motor does fail you might give us an opportunity to re-earn your trust.

Overall experience was great. Service person was right on time and installed the unit with no issues. Whole house humidifier works great, I love it. I had to call the company several times with questions about the unit (excess drainage water, etc). THey were so helpful and explained some adjustments to me and taught me how to maintain and run the unit. Impressive! They even offered to come back out and give me a "tutorial" because I was struggling to operate it efficiently. I declined and we did it over the phone but it was nice to offer, sometimes customer service means going the extra mile. I really appreciated the company and their business practices!!!
