I purchased a promotion coupon from Angie's List to have an inspection and cleaning of the central air conditioner unit. The rep was very thorough and wrote up his findings on paper. A copy was provided to me. Since the unit was under warranty they did not fix the problem, because I needed to go back to the original installer, but they did identify the problem. My only concern is that I was unable to download the 21 point inspection checklist from their website. The rep called the office and they told him they would email it IF I called and asked for it. It should have been provided automatically when the promotion was purchased so the customer knows what procedures the rep is planning to perform.

Air Serv arrived the same day I called (on the hottest day of the summer) promptly as promised, tested my A/C compressor components and found a defective capacitor, replaced it and checked the rest of my system. Air Serv was a hit with me from the first contact when Sandy asked how she could make me smile today. Well, that started it :-). The technician, Richard, called while on his way and met me - actually, he had the capacitor replaced before I got home. He took time to show me the tests and analysis he performed, compared results to the voltage and ohm reading ranges on my unit cover and how he determined that the capacitor was the problem. It seems to be increasingly difficult to find any company these days - from McDonalds to a car dealer to a hardware store - who delivers what the promise or understands the customer pays the bills and a happy customer builds a successful business. Hats off to Air Serv !!!! Guess who I'll call when I need a new A/C or furnace? Thanks folks !!!

I did not get a senior discount, they would only do that on the purchase of a new A/C. I ended up getting a window A/C. He was an adequate worker. The guy was very serious about his work. He provided the estimate for the work.

Thank you for your comments. It is true, since the $69 tune up is already deeply discounted (from $119) we do not apply any additional discounts. Perhaps we should review this policy. My larger concern is your utility bill. If you replaced a central air conditioning system with a window unit, depending on the unit and its size, you may actually see an increase in utilities even though you are air conditioning less space. If you do witness this increase and would like to take a second look at replacement, we will take the window unit in on trade and give you the full you have paid toward a replacement system.

The technician decided I needed a new "capacitor" for around $75. I went ahead with the replacement but didn't feel it was necessary. The total was still less than a complete service and he replaced my filter. I used Aire-Serv Heating and Cooling in the past and liked them. I would not want the same technician to return. I did not feel I could trust him to give me reliable answers.

Had our technician given you a thorough explanation of the need to replace your capacitor, and demonstrated why the capacitor indicated failure (via meter readings) we would hope you would have been comfortable with the purchase. Was very quick to give price and set up installation. Was timely installed. Next day had some issues and had service come right out. Were fine with this. When completed had one small item to finish. They stated they would come back. Took several calls and two weeks to get done. When I called was told several times would call right back. They never did I had to call back every time. Office staff at end was somewhat rude, acting like it wasn't important and I was being a pest. I was just trying to get the work completed. We installed your unit during the warmest weeks of the summer, and our busiest season, so our staff gave it a diminished importance, when compared to those who were without air conditioning. From scheduling to completion, this was a good experience. The office was efficient and helpful, sending a tech first thing the next morning for my urgent problem and another a few days later to complete the necessary but non-urgent work. The tech's were professional and friendly and went above and beyond to see that i was informed and satisfied. Our units were filthy -- hadn't been cleaned or checked in several years, and now they are in great shape.

The gentleman who came to fix or service my air conditioner was prompt and courteous. He found the problem immediately, replaced the filter, and did a full check of the outside unit. In addition, he removed the weeds and vines that had grown up around the unit.

As it turned out, the leak had NOT been fixed. He had repaired the fitting of the drain pipe, but had not tested the system to determine if that was the only fault in the drain. A month ago, we noticed a drip coming out of our kitchen light fixture. We removed the light fixture and found that the ceiling was wet underneath. I assumed that the moisture was from the prior leak. We started to replace a 4' X 6' patch of wall board in the ceiling and the more we dug into it, the wetter it got. We were forced to remove the entire ceiling and found that the wall board, plaster and blown-in insulation had absorbed a large amount of water. There was a crack at the bottom of the trap, on this same drain pipe, that should have been discovered by Aire Serv.
Description of Work: We sustained a water leak in the condensation drain of our a/c system that was situated in our attic. The leak had ruined our dining room wall and ceiling to the tune of $2500. Aire Serv found that the leak was caused by a fitting that had come undone on a 3/4" drain pipe, put some cement on the pipe and called it fixed.

My apologies for our failure to deliver the service you expected, and the damage to your home. This must have been a communication error on our part as the technician obviously did not emphasize the importance of the two services that you were offered but subsequently declined. He evidently did not make clear that his initial offering, to install a clean out tee in the drain line so that it could always be tested and cleaned, would have most likely rectified this issue along with similar issues in the future. Additionally, his offer to clean your indoor coil that had become impacted (full of dirt and debris) would not have been declined had he emphasized this conditions contribution to future stoppages in the drain and overall poor performance. I’m sure, properly presented that you would have seen the wisdom in doing so. I would also hope that you have installed a filter in the system, as the ticket indicates the unit was without one upon our arrival and that you would assure one would be installed. I’m certain your woes of today could have been avoided had we properly presented your options.

It went well, the tech first removed ice that had built up in system then added Freon. I did not appreciate the fact that the $49 was not subtracted from final price and I believe the final price was too much, $176 for 3 pounds of Freon.

Thank you for your comments, your input helps us be a better company! Your system contains the older R22 refrigerant that is being phased out. The cost of this refrigerant has increase ten fold over the last few years and we really have no choice but to pass on the increase. I believe you will find that we are less expensive than most of our competitors on this product.

They were very nice and punctual. Everything as good. They did the work that was covered by the insurance company but they said if we want them to do the complete work, we would have to pay them more. They did not try to sell me service that I did not really needed.

I made the appointment via the Angies List website, and they called back maybe the next day. No problems with scheduling, the guy showed up on time, was professional and courteous. Took maybe an hour for the tune up and replaced the filter. We have paid $140 for this filter before, but his charge was only $40. Very happy with the experience.

Can't answer this because we are still waiting for service since 7/3.
Description of Work: Gave us an estimate for relocating our air conditioner and a 20pt check. When Danny the technician opened the coil chamber the condensation pan cracked. It was audible. Later it leaked profusely in our laundry room. They came back the same night to repair, but the PVC correction did not work. We have now been without air conditioning ever since! They were waiting for a part to arrive that came in on 7/8. However they cannot install it until Tues, 7/15, between 2-4. It's over 90 degrees in the house. I am 75 years old. Repeated attempts by me to get an earlier appointment have been futile. Aired Serve doesn't care about their customers!

My apologies for your experience and we offer no excuse for your situation. Our system failed. Although once your warranty company was involved we could not expedite the part, you should have been offered temporary portable air conditioning during your wait. The breakdown took place when the status of the call changed from a standard call to your warranty company being involved. Once the warranty company has the claim, we are required to follow their procedures as at that point, we are really working for them. This resulted in waiting for the part instead of taking some more immediate action. However, this is no excuse for letting you go without air conditioning. We make every effort to have these types of failures eventually strengthen our system. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I was concerned my AC unit wasn't performing as well as it should, so I got the $49 Angie's List "tune up" from Aire Serv. The tech, Brian, showed up bang on the dot of our appointment, something that really impresses me from a service company. I told him what I had been experiencing and he started the inspection. After a while, he broke the bad news, the compressor was bad. I told him that Amana had a lifetime warranty on the compressor, but I was surprised when he quoted me almost $1400 for the service labor and refrigerant charges. This seemed high to me, but I was under time pressure to get it fixed and owing to the good ratings from Angie, I asked him to proceed. He didn't have the compressor and had to order it. I got a call a couple days later when the part came and was told that they couldn't get to me for nearly two weeks due to the rush caused by the hot weather. Yikes, that's a long time to wait when you have no AC. I accepted the date, and as it turned out, spent the next week on vacation out of town, so only had one week to tolerate without AC. I should say that they called me while I was on vacation and had a cancellation and offered to install it about a week sooner, but I was on vacation and could not accept. The last week was brutally hot. On the service day, they promised an arrival between 1 and 2pm. Actual arrival time: 3:30pm. Had a job that "ran over." I was not happy but what are you going to do? Brian the tech was back with a helper. They got right to work and by 630pm, my AC unit was pumping out the cold air again. I had asked Brian to do anything he could think of to make sure my unit was working as efficiently and reliably as it could. He proactively replaced the circuit breaker, which had tripped several times with the old compressor, just to make sure iit hadn't weakened. I really appreciated this extra step. The bill was roughly $1000 for the labor and $400 for the freon and environmental fees. $1000 seems a lot for 3 hours work, but I never had a compressor fail before. I can say that the AC unit has performed flawlessly so far and I am grateful to have a cool house. Had I been less rushed, I may have gotten a couple additional quotes. I am very satisfied with the professionalism of Brian and the work they did. As an aside, the Amana unit was only 2 1/2 years old, and I was not happy to have such an expensive repair so soon.

It went very well. The technician was a very nice gentleman. He performed the inspection as promised. He was quite knowledgeable. I was running a bit late and got to my house after he did and he had been waiting patiently for me in the driveway. He also answered all my questions and helped educate me on my system.

We had a time schedule and they were supposed to call before they came. We had to reschedule a few times. We finally set a time and when he got here and while working their was a bugs nest. He wanted to charge me an extra $37.00 to spray a small canister of bug spray. The whole Big Deal was a mess and I finally just put an end to it an got a refund. Angie List has been great working with the refund.

We apologize for your experience, and the difficulty in coordinating with your schedule. The "bugs" you referred to were in fact,a wasp nest. It is necessary for these to be removed from your equipment so (a) that the technician can safely service the unit and (b) they can cause damage to certain electrical components, The $37 cost includes the spray, the additional time waiting for the swarm to subside, and the clean up of any residual spray in the electronic components of the unit. It may be prudent to advise whomever does service the unit that the nest exist prior to them opening the cabinet.
