First off I will say that the owner Tim Nelson is a likeable guy and talks the talk. However my review is based upon facts and quality of service rendered not likeability. I hired Nelson Construction based upon my sit down with Tim where I explained my needs and expectations on some projects I had starting with remodeling a home for my handicapped mother. He assured me it was no problem and in typical contractor style he also assured me his company was the right one for the job. First work performed was they removed a roof, repaired damaged sheathing and put on the new roof of a home. I must say upon first inspection it appeared they did a decent job at the rate quoted. They seem to be roofers but it stops there. If using them you may need to purchase a metal detector when done as I did to get all of the nails out of the lawn. Im still finding nails everywhere. Even 30 ft from the home. After the roof it all went downhill from there. It soon became clear to me that the roof was fairly priced but anything asked for additional was billed at much inflated rates when billed after the fact. Examples: Along with the roof I hired them to do the roof and add a small front porch cover with simple deck rail across the front. They did the whole roof for $3000 but I was billed $1500 for adding the small porch cover which had about 4 hours work and $350 worth of materials in it. I was billed 5 hours to replace pressed board siding with osb on a 8x10 shed. I watched myself and the total time spent on the shed siding was 1.25 hours during which Mr Nelson wasnt even present other than to pop a new preframed door in which he billed seperate for. He had his helpers do it as he does most everything because he isnt on site much. He sells himself up front then has low grade helpers do the work while he runs around looking for more work. He bills for his Apparently not. With their lack of experience they decided to remove all of the siding at once and the building became unstabled and twisted and or racked. Mr Nelsons "top hand" rushed to strighten it back before it fell. They were also supposed to reroof the shed which wasnt done. Also they left a portion of the front with the original siding for whatever reason. So Im assuming I was billed for the whole job and only received a partial job. I asked them to remove the old aluminum siding from the home and replace it with vinyl. I requested that my shutters be saved as I run a business that has the capacity to refinish them. What happened? Well instead of removing the siding it was ripped from the house in a frenzy, shutters included. Siding and shutters were in a twisted mangled heap when I saw it. So now I have to pay to replace my shutters some of which were custom sized. Also in the demolition frenzy they destroyed the vent for my kitchen range hood and when they put the vinyl on the covered the hole and left it that way until I said umm wheres my range going to vent to now? When I hired them to do the siding I picked the main and trim colors and explained to the boss himself how I wanted it done. When they were 1/3 of the way thru putting the siding on I showed up to find it wasnt done as agreed. When this happens one is no longer paying someone to do it your way. You are paying someone to do it how they feel and you are forced to settle for something rather than have it the way you asked. That or have them tear it all back off and add even more nail holes to your home. I will add that Mr Nelson wasnt present when the siding was being put on. Once again he had helpers doing the work while he was away doing whatever. I had them replace two exterior doors at a flate rate of $300 but it took me a week and a half of protesting to get them to put the door knobs and deadbolts back in. In tearing off the siding they took down the front and rear porch lights which I also had to protest to have them reinstalled. They asked one day if they could pulled the rear deck of the home back "a little" so they could slide the siding in. I said yes. Only to later be billed for wrecking it out. Yes it was wrecked out in pieces and now is lying on my lawn in a destroyed heap. Trying to be a friendly customer I told them up front before the job that if they hauled away the aluminum siding to a recycler I would split the proceeds which I did but yet they left my deck and all of the other work scraps and garbage piled on my lawn. I assume I have to pay to have that removed. Mr Nelson and his crew saw items around the property and buildings such as air conditioners and tools and asked if they could have them. I said sure take it with you. One day the guys asked about the aluminum storm doors they had removed and I said sure take them with you. What did they do? At lunch time they took the windows out thru them in my flower bed and rushed to the recycler to scrap the doors. I watched for days to see how long theyd leave the windows in the flower beds until finally I had to protest to get them removed. I paid big money to have 15 inch tiles put in the ditch lines in front of the home. With way more than enough parking room they insisted on parking their trucks on the tiles crushing them. When I protested and pointed it out what happened? They did it again. Of course they take no responsibility for that either and the custoer has to pay to repair. I had Mr Nelson replace two light switches ( which I supplied ) beside the front door for which he billed $50. A certified electrician ( which he isnt ) only charges $15 When they put the roof on and front porch cover I iasked ok now how much to side it all. He sided the house but never did the porch. Told me in the end that cost extra. The front porch cover posts were to have 45 degree braces put in for support. I asked repeatedly when this would be done. All I ever heard was we dont have our miter saw with us today and till this day they still arent installed. I'll have to hire someone else to come do that. A friday came and Mr Nelson asked me to pay for the job because he had to pay his guys even though the work wasnt complete. He then handed me the inflated bill which I protested. After and hour he would only reduce the amount by $350 as if he was doing me a favor and according to him it would all work itself out on future projects. Against my better judgement I wrote the check and it was rushed to the bank and cashed. Few days later Mr. Nelson showed up, never said a word or spoke, half assed fixed a "few" spots of his guys bad work, installed some conjured up redneck homegrown vent as a range hood exit and left. Not a word said. Not even to show me what he had conjurred for apprHavent seen them since. I waited and waited and nothing not even a courtesy call so I had to hire others to come fix their bad work and complete it as well. I might add that in having others quote the work I didnt tell them who did the work until after they quoted it. I didn't want any biz to biz bias involved and wanted a fair and impartial opinion. The result? "ALL" who looked at the work said it was overcharged and substandard. All agreed the roof was done decent but all spotted the cheapie and crooked drip moulding used to save a buck. ... And all asked why the previous contractor left the heap of garbage on the lawn. Summary: As stated in the opening of this post Mr. Nelson is a very likeable person. He talks the talk. He sells himself but in the end it isnt him doing the work. You pay him Bob Villa wages and get Sandford & Son doing substandard work. His communication skills with his crew is very lacking and nobody has a clue then goes off and guesses at what they are to do " UNSUPERVISED". I even heard him tell them one day " they were never going to side another home until they learned how to do it right". Of course he told me up front siding the home was no problem. The reason someone hires a contractor is to have someone preform and oversee the work. When a customer has to spend their day baby sitting watching every move made because a crew is all over & unsupervised its time to get a new contractor. Mr. Nelson pulls out his contractors book and quotes from the national average. London Ky is NOT the national average. Even if it were, the rates in the book are meant for qualified trained crews not one guy with a bunch of low paid less than skilled helpers. I had high hopes with Mr. Nelson as I do have a lot of work to be done. Would I do it again? ... no way. Its the most unorganized train wreck of a company I have seen in a while. One that now left work undone, + added replacement & repair expenses to the customer. UPDATE: After almost 5 weeks of no word from Tim Nelson ( Poof* Gone) I contacted him only to hear him make every excuse he could conjur up why he shouldnt make good on his work. After just a few weeks the front porch he did is bowed and it has been pointed out he didnt even use weather resitant nails. He used regular framing nails which are already rusting and staining the lumber. He now also seems to have a memory lapse as to the request to save the shutters he destroyed and refuses to make good. In typical true to form redneck contractor ripoff form he refuses to take responsibility for his employees crap work and his lack of managment. All I got was.. classic... Deny responsibility and blame the customer bs. If anyone would like to see proof of my claims Id be happy to share photos and invoicing so you can see for yourself. email: psworld2k2@hotmail(dot)com Also the photos/story etc will also be posted soon on several websites so you may see them there. I have now found and qualified another crew who does awesome work at a much less rate. Top rate guys... very straight forward and fair. Id be happy to provide that info for anyone who needs work also. If it saves you the hassel I went thru then id be happy to share the info. Happy Holidays!

The owner, Tim, came out the day I called him. He fixed the leak within hours and began right away to repair the water damage. It took a few days because he had to replace some drywall/ceiling board but the quality of the work was excellent. He was very careful to always clean up after himself. I will definitely use him again for any roofing or contracting work around the house.
Description of Work: Found and repaired roof leak. Repaired water damaged ceiling.
