You get what you pay for. At the time, I was thrilled for the price they offered me. However, here it is only three years later and my sink just fell out because they only sealed it in two locations on each end of the sink. I called thinking they would be quick to repair their faults but they told me that I would have to pay for everything including the plumber before and after to detach and attach plumping. Ultimately costing me about $600 because they failed to seal and install the sink correctly. Indeed. You get what you pay for. ....and clearly they must not be paying much to the gal that returned my call because she was quite rude. I had referred this company many times before because of their affordable price. No more.
"Stones and Granite takes our customers complaints very seriously. We warranty our installations and sink mounts for 1 year. This was told to Ms. [Member's name removed] when she purchased the granite tops and signed off on the Disclaimer acknowledging this warranty. We also explain and provide some examples why sinks can drop, which can be from standing inside the sink while cleaning above cabinets or windows, soaking dishes for long periods of time and/or washing pets or babies inside the sinks. Ms. [Member's name removed] called and we informed her that we could go out and re-mount the sink, but there was a charge of $150.00 after the year warranty. She kept stating the installation of the sink was bad, but if the sink did not drop until 3 years later, that is an indication of miss-use of the sink. We regret the issues Ms. [Member's name removed] is having with her sink and would be glad to send a team to fix the sink for the disclosed fee. We have installed thousands of granite tops in the last 12 years and only about 25 sinks have had issues. So our track record shows are sinks are mounted correctly."
"Stones and Granite takes all customer complaints very seriously. Ms. [Removed member name], came in and asked for a quote on granite counter tops and provided the granite color she wanted. We disclosed in our Disclaimer that we cannot guarantee any times of arrival. We make it clear that template and installs prior to her job can make the template and installations later or earlier. We ask the customers, if they need any notice so they do not sit at home and wait. We are more than willing to give notice to customers when headed to the job sites. We apologize, if this part of the Disclaimer was not clear to Ms. [Removed member name]. As for the crystal in the stone. The very first paragraph of the Disclaimer clearly states, that this is natural stone and can have crystals, birthmarks, etc. and if they wish us to work around any of these natural beautiful marks, we charge extra for the wasted precious stone. Ms. [Removed member name] look at the slab and did not mention she wanted us to cut out the crystal. The beautiful crystal was about the size of a dime and on the piece next to the stove. Ms. [Removed member name] called and we explained natural stone and that she did not request any parts to be cut out, so we cut the kitchen as a standard kitchen and included the natural forming crystal. We explained if she wanted that piece re-cut, she would have to pay the additional cost. Ms. [Removed member name] did not want to pay the additional cost. We offered her a free granite cutting board to put on top of that area and she never came by to pick it up."
They have beautiful granite at a fair price. from start to finish they were helpful. The measurements and template made perfect so the granite install went smoothly and professionally ,in fact my Granite is the first thing everyone asks about and comments on from friends to other people working on my Kitchen remodel as I learned through all the companies and contractor I used remodeling my kitchen you have to stay on top of everything .plan for the unexpected and pick you battles a total remodel is not for the faint of heart . I would use this company again and I recommend them.. A from me
I was gathering quotes for replacing my kitchen countertops from the existing laminate to granite. I found Stones and Granite of Lex online, among others, and went to Lexington to talk to the ones that had slabs on site so that I could view them. I could not find Stones and Granite initially because the address online was different from their actual address as they had moved. I called them when I was lost and they told me their new address.
I met with and quot;Sandiand quot; at Stones and Granite and I immediately enjoyed talking with her. I came in with my measurements and she gave me a ball park figure and I asked if we could look at granite slabs. She was very helpful to me and spent a good amount of time going through their inventory. I asked about remnants and she said they had several that would be good for smaller applications, such as baths. I went home and provided the measurements for my other bathrooms and the basement bar and she worked up some additional pricing for me. Based on comparisons from the other granite locations, their quote was very competitive, their selection was quite good, and we decided to do all of the countertops, not just the kitchen.
I went back to their shop within a couple of days to do my final selections. I took a spare floor tile and a drawer from my cabinets, as the entire house had the same cabinetry. My initial granite slab selection for the kitchen was not such a great match when I had my actual samples in hand, so Sandi was very patient with me and we were back to the drawing board going through each and every slab to find the perfect piece. We did find a color that I really liked and we found remnants for all the other rooms. She was a great partner along the way, never rushing me and was letting me know when I was deviating from the initial numbers I was given. Based on the new selection I made, it did cause my initial quote to go up a little.
I paid 1/2 deposit for the work, signed the disclaimer and we scheduled the templating and install dates.
It's important to read the disclaimer before you sign and you should ask all your questions ahead of time. If you want them to remove the existing countertops and haul them away, that is an additional charge. Because we had so much done at the same time, it was worth it to us to pay for this service. You may run into other problems with your existing structure so you need to prepare to address that. For example, on the day of templating, after the kitchen countertops were removed it was discovered that one section of my cabinets was not perfectly level and we needed to shim it before the installation. There were also 2 additional wooden support bars that we needed to install.
They did not remove the countertops from the 3 bathrooms and basement bar on the day of templating. I was told they were able to do the measurements with the existing countertops intact. I was told that there was a small support needed for the basement bar but that the install crew would take care of that, as well as provide a support bar for the dishwasher. I called my husband and had him talk directly with the template crew so that we were clear on what needed to be done.
In terms of inconvenience, the major drawback to this step was that we removed the faucets, as instructed, on Monday evening for the Tues morning templating. However, since only the kitchen countertops were removed on template day, we did this for nothing and could have at least kept the bathrooms operational until the day of installation (Thursday). If you've ever removed plumbing from a sink, you know that you don't want to hook it up again for a day and then take it all apart again.
The install team came on Thursday morning...Tim, Alex, and Orby. They were great. However, they seemed surprised to find that none of the remaining countertops had been removed. When they began removing the countertops, we were told we needed to have a support bar in the basement. I immediately explained that we were told they were supposed to do that. By chance, my husband stayed home that morning to make sure there were no wrinkles and I'm glad he did. He's a good handyman and we had wood and tools and shims and he had the know how to do the last minute things, but he wasn't, then the morning might have gone downhill very quickly.
The guys did a great job with the installation and were very careful with my furniture and cabinets. They cleaned up as best they could and they were friendly. We went around and inspected the work and found it to be great.
In summary, I did read the other Angie's List report and can understand the frustration. Stones and Granite is very upfront that they do not do carpentry and plumbing. If you are just embarking on a granite countertop install job, be sure to ask what is included in the quote and what isn't and what prep work is required of you. You'll also want to make sure you have access to a plumber or carpenter if you have to fix something before the countertops can be installed if you aren't a handyman.
If I had it to do over, I'm not sure I would have knocked out the job all at the same time because it has not been fun being without faucets and sinks Mon-Friday. However, my overall impression of Stones and Granite is positive and I recommend them (and have) to anyone wanting to do a remodel. I gave a B for professionalism because I felt there was not adequate communication between the templating crew and the install crew. Additionally, I wish I would have been told that the templating could have been done with the plumbing still connected because I surely would have gone that route if I had known about it.
As in any home improvement project, you may and probably will run into a wrinkle and will need to react quickly in order for it to continue.
Throughout the project every time we spoke with a different person we got a different story. The template workers said the base cabinets were a little out of level but it shouldn't be a problem. The installers said it was a problem and we had to go out and hire a carpenter to level the cabinets. An office worker said we could have a plumber come the same day the granite was installed to finish out the sink (and quot;no problemand quot;) but it was a different story upon installation. One person said they would remove the old countertops for a small fee. Someone else told us that they did not do that at all. This was a pattern of working with this company.
We were stressed, confused, perplexed and our kitchen was a mess (unusable) for two weeks. Instead of having them put a 15 yr. warranted sealant on the countertops we decided to do it ourselves since we do not trust this company.
Save yourself some stress and heartache and do not go with this company.
"These customers were explained over the phone all the details. We asked them to come in and go over our disclaimer of do's and don'ts and they said they could not make it in. They asked that we go over the disclaimer over the phone. We do remove old countertops for a fee but they said they would do it themselves instead of paying the extra charge. When we arrived at the home the customer did not have their old countertops removed. Once our template crew got around to doing the template the customers were told they needed support to go under their bar along with the cabinets needing to be leveled. It is clearly stated on our disclaimer that we do not level or install corbels. We do not offer any carpentary services. We told the members that we would refund them their monies back at the beginning of the project if they weren't happy and they said no they wanted us to finish it. We did everything we could to make them happy and at the end of the installation they called to thank us for the great job we did."
