Description of Work: They did almost an entire remodel !! total kitchen floor to ceiling, remove all interior doors and hung new ones. replaced all the trim in the house and around the windows inside. removed base board heaters and repaired all dry wall and painted the complete inside. wired for a disposal unit in the kitchen and updated the vent exhaust for the dryer. and a few other minor tasks.

+ 2 moreWe researched and asked for bids from several different companies. Richards Home Improvement beat all estimates in price and related materials. The quality of work was excellent. We couldn't have been more pleased. The workers were absolutely wonderful to have around. Having floors being pulled up and replaced can certainly be incovenient and possibly dangerous especially for my 88-year old mother, children and pet. The workers planned, along with us, the schedule for replacement of each area. If an area of the floor was not yet finished at the end of the day, they made sure it was covered safely and could easily be walked on. They were absolute perfectionists about their work and meticulous about keeping the areas clean - especially at the end of the day. If I have to say something negative, it would be that, because it is a small company, it was difficult at times in the beginning to reach someone in the office. Once work began however, the workers arrived on time and Richard came by regularly to check their work and to see if I had any questions or concerns. He made sure the deck was constructed according to building codes and obtained permit approval for us. Feel very comfortable about using this company!
Description of Work: We had hardwood flooring placed in a family room, entry and hallway. Ceramic tile was placed in two bathrooms. Our deck was removed and replaced.

I had to supervise their work every day and inspect everything carefully because the quality of the work was so bad. they didn't scrape the old paint very well and did not hammer in nails that were sticking out. the painting on the window trim was very sloppy, as was the clean up. they ruined one of my garden hoses and a garden sprayer wand. they pored out paint on my yard and killed a patch of grass. they used the wrong paint on my wrought iron porch trim and ruined it. they missed several places and I had to go over everything they did every day in order to get it done correctly. the guttering they installed was the wrong size for the roof, so when it rains the water just runs over the top of the gutters. one entire strip of guttering was hung slanting the wrong direction, so the water did not run toward the gutter, but instead flowed toward the house. when I called the office to complain, the woman who answered was so rude and shrill I could not believe it. one of their guys even took stuff out of our trash cans that we had thrown out and put it in his van. really, just an unbelievably unprofessional and terrible company. I didn't even want them back to fix the stuff they did that was wrong or poorly done. I just wanted then gone!

Description of Work: I had an old deck removed along with a tree and two large shurbs. Richard built a 14 x 14 deck and a 16 x 24 screened porch, all in trex. The floor joists and 6 x 6's were PT. The rafters were 2 x 10 with OSB over with felt and house matching shingles. He used screen tight materials, and built a 6' wide stair according to my request. The job was done professionally and on time. Richard was a pleasure to work with and I would definately recomend him and sue him again.

He supervises all of the work that is done and has a list of contracters that he uses depending on the job. He does supervise each job eventhough he may not do the work himself. When there were any problems, he was quick to have them addressed. He treats this repeat customer well.

+ 4 morenot a fan. will not recommend to anyone unless I am recommending them to go somewhere else. at the time they were highly recommended by our local Tile Shop and also reported back to them our experience. they were at the time not part of the BBB so couldn't do much on complaining. could have easily got them to fix the spotty work by small claims since they refused, but to be honest it was so bad at the end I just wanted them to be done and never hear from them again! that's when you know it's bad.
Description of Work: The worker for whom did the work was extremely nice so can't say anything about that. the issue is simply I had to do my own foreman work in the fact of pointing out mistakes and having them fix them. we ended p w/ our mosaic tiles not lined up hardly at all causing spacing issues and gaps especially where the wall/ceiling meets and also where wall/wall meets... just horrible spotty work. we had them remove an old one piece tub & wall combo to put in a soaker tub w/ the wall being all mosaic glass tile. the tub is excellent and worked fine, but the tile looks to be honest like something I could have done and I've never done it before. also they had to put in new drywall where the old one piece was causing a huge bulge where the old and new met w/ the tile. looks horrible and they refused to fix it since it wasn't noticed until everything dried. had new lights put in and the cutting work and installation was horrible. there's gaps and other issues. the two over the tub look great after I did some spot work w/ some plaster, but the two over the sink and just so happens to be the two you see most often are not good even after I tried to make them look better. the tile floor is good so can't complain there. the toilet was a mess because when we bought one it was one which had the push-button on it. one for using when you either do a #1 or #2. anyways there was a template that came w/ it to show if it would fit and the guys laid it out then said they had no idea how to install it. well we had to call a pro to come out certified on that style and he said we should have been informed by the other buys that even by laying out the template he could see it wouldn't even fit thus wasting an additional $70 out of our pocket for something they didn't tell us & we lost. the layout of the toilet was about 2" on the wall when lined up so even me, someone who has no clue about any of this stuff could have seen it wouldn't fit. when they had the template down should have seen this easily. the vanity/mirror/sink/faucet etc... great install... also just little things w/ other stuff. they also damaged the top of our drawer for our very nice vanity we bought. that was fixed only after we noticed it being done and having to make a call to get them to fix it. luckily my wife caught it. also had to speak w/ Richard directly through e-mail showing him the issues w/ the work done. I just put it simply would not do any sort of business w/ this company ever again. I would warn you that if you do do business w/ them make sure to take tons of pictures and also everyday once they leave overlook their work and make them fix anything that is needing it. we did and shouldn't have had to. they only took off $100 even after all my complaining and having to take way too much of my time int he 2 weeks or more it took them to do a bathroom remodel.

+ -1 moreThe first problem was that the men did not come every day and often only worked a half day when they came, so the part of the project they did complete took much longer than it should have. The second problem was that we discussed what kind of windows to use (grid windows in order to match the windows in the rest of our home) before RHI gave us the written proposal. The proposal RHI then wrote up just said "windows" (did not specify grid windows). Later, when it came time to put in windows, Richard Johnson told us we would have to do a change order and pay more money if we wanted grid windows because he had not figured that into the proposal even though that is what we discussed before he wrote the proposal so that the windows in the addition would match our existing windows. Similarly, we discussed having a full light door, but then he just put "door" on the proposal. When it came time to put in the door, he again said we would owe more money for the full light door, so instead of doing a change order we went to Home Depot, bought a full light door for half of what he said he would charge us, and installed it ourselves. At that point, we began to question the proposal and to request a breakdown of the costs. Shortly after that, Richard Johnson told us he did not plan to complete our project; we had already paid him $5,000. We think he had other projects going on and our little $10,000 project wasn't worth it to him to finish for $5,000 more since we had already given him half. Taking him to court to recoup any of the money would have been more trouble than it was worth because he would have said he already completed $5,000 worth of work at that point, and it would have been up to us to prove otherwise, so we just cut our losses. We would not use them again and would advise anyone who does use them to make certain everything is spelled out in the contract and that the contract contains a time frame for completion. We don't think he was necessarily dishonest, but we think maybe he had too much going on and forgot the details we talked about, than got upset when we pointed it out. The quality of the work was fine, but another contractor later completed the job plus performed additional work on the project for less than the remaining $5,000 we would have paid RHI.

Description of Work: Deck repair: they pulled up the boards and added extra joists, replaced rotting boards, made sure the boards were flush and even.

There was a misunderstanding with two portions of the work (which I did not understand and was asking about) and upon questioning the gentleman he became abrupt and angered. This was not something to be angry about, I merely did not understand and was asking about work I understood as unfinished. I probably would not use them again myself, but for someone who understands general remodeling, etc. they would be a good choice. The best thing about them was that they cleaned up the mess afterwards.

Description of Work: They built a porch and pergola beside the pool in the back yard. The work was done in a timely manner, done ( and re-done) to my satisfaction.
