In mid January, 2014, we contracted Mr. Larry Burke of Providence Electric, Inc. in Richmond, KY, to replace a light above the sink in our kitchen. We had already purchased the new light and wanted him to remove the old light and install the new one. A simple job... or so it appeared. The old light had been installed by another electrician several years ago when we had remodeled our kitchen. As Mr. Burke removed the old light, the poor workmanship in its installation was visible. Even I was aware of that. The mounting foundation, attached to a support beam in the attic was a small piece of 2x4, and to that, a small metal electrical box was attached. From that electrical box were two small screws that held the old light's fairly heavy body. Mr. Burke had to remove all of those "mistakes" and enlarge the opening so he would be able to mount and secure an acceptable electrical box. In addition to the new electrical box, a covering plate was required to cover the larger opening. A 30 to 45 minute "remove and replace" job (my estimate) took much longer because Mr. Burke had to go and buy a new electrical box, the plate and then install the new electrical box into a difficult opening so our new fixture would be secure, safe and look great. It was and it did. He excelled in all those tasks and his finished work pleased both my wife and me very much. His professionalism, skills at finding a solution to a difficult challenge and installing a safe and secure electrical part in our kitchen were well worth his modest charges for the amount of work he had to do. He has done very important electrical upgrades, and basic work, for us in the past and we have nothing but absolute confidence in the quality of his work. This confidence also applies to the electricians he has as a part of his crew working for him - they have also done excellent electrical work in our home. Central gas heating system went out when temperatures were below freezing. Tried to troubleshoot the problem myself without success. Contacted an HVAC contractor who came to the house and after checking fuses, etc, said the system was not getting electricity. He recommended we contact an electrician. Went to Angie's List and noticed Providence Electric received many favorable comments. Sent an email that night (Thursday) to see if they could come to the house on Saturday to fix the problem. However, the next day (Friday), I decided the family could not wait until Saturday, so I called to see if they could change my request to as soon as possible and they did! Larry was courteous, professional and fixed the problem. I will use Providence Electric in the future.

Within an hour of calling me back, Mr. Burke had a technician at my house. Andrew was fantastic. The furnace, along with the bathroom are wired on a different circuit from everything else in the house. He had to work in darkness (other than a hand held light), in the attic, on the furnace. The circuit runs from a switch in my garage, it was just a question of two switches out there, that it operated from. He tried them in all combinations of on/off positions until it became apparent which it had to be. He changed out a bad switch there and I had lights and an exhaust fan in the bathroom again. Then, he switched off the breaker to the furnace and changed out the switch there, as well. He was very professional and very good about explaining what he was doing. In additional, he really seemed to enjoy solving the mystery of exactly how that quirky circuit worked and what it took to get everything just right on it. Mr. Burke followed up with a phone call to make sure everything was to satisfaction. Attention to detail. Very professional, punctual, courteous. Highly recommended!

Very quick response, Andrew was at my house less than an hour after I called. He did a wonderful job finding the problem in spite of the complicated wiring in my house. I'll use Providence from now on for any electrical work.

Loud noise I thought was coming from old smoke detectors in house....Electrician DeWayne found noise coming from basement, two old smoke detectors that had malfunctioned. Work completed and I am very happy.

I recently discovered all my electrical outlets were not grounded. I also wanted to have a dedicated circuit for my audio electronics. I called Providence Electric because of their excellent feedback on this site. Larry took my call, and promptly scheduled an appoinment. I followed his advice on grounding the outlets, and installing a new circuit. His brother Tom came to do the work the following day, after I had a consultation with Larry. He was a pleasure to deal with, as was Larry. He explained everything in detail as to what he was doing and why. All the work was completed in a timely manner, and done professionally. I was more than pleased with the work, and the advice. Also, I just enjoyed the friendly and considerate way I was treated. I was also pleasantly surprised by the price for all their work. I was expecting it to be around $1500. They have my highest recommendation,and I would gladly call them again for any electrical issue. Just good people .

Despite having to deal with years of bad wiring and less than optimal conditions in our home, Providence Electric provided excellent service. Their estimate was the most affordable and clear one we received. They clearly communicated problems as they found them (even catching a water leak in the basement) and didn't stop work until the job was done. Additionally, they worked around other contractors working in the home without complaint. Their service was throughout and I would certainly hire again.

I have extensive experience working with electrical contractors having worked in construction and completed a old house restoration. I know what it takes and understand the basics of the trade. Larry Burke is a professional. I presented him with a detailed list of items that required inspection, circuits and outlets to be added. He visited my home and reviewed my list, walked through the house asking important questions and offered options where appropriate. I received the detailed estimate I requested in a few days. His estimates and rates are accurate and appropriate. After some review and followup questions, we scheduled the work. The staff arrived on time, was very productive, asked important clarifying questions along the way. Despite having to cut into old plaster throughout the house, kept the dust to a minimum. Both Larry and his staff are great keeping me informed, checking in and ensuring the project was going well. I highly recommend Providence.

Called them to replace some thermostats, but they forgot to call me back, so I got someone else to do the work. Probably an honest mistake on their part, so maybe I will give them another shot for future needs.

It went really well, got there in the morning and was finished that afternoon. It included tieing the service into my home panel, digging an 18" trench to bury the conduit, installing the panel and hooking everything up.

Very professional and friendly, on time for both the estimate and the work day. Had several outlets to install in different rooms of our home and did the work quickly efficiently and cleaned up after themselves. Highly recommend.

I called Larry yesterday AM. He didn't know exactly when he could get to us, but he called a few hours later to say someone would be there at 4 PM. The serviceman arrived promptly at 4 and took care of the problem. Went like clockwork. We used a $25. coupon from this list.

I called them to fix the electricity in my bedroom. He said he could have someone here in an hour. The repairman was here in less than that. He spent almost an hour searching for the cause. He found it and fixed it. Very nice man who explained everything he was doing. I will definitely call them again when I need an electrician.

The two workers were very professional and punctual. They did not waste any time in completing their work. They were careful working around our furnishings. They cleaned up after the job was complete. All of this and their price was better than a previous quote. Job well done.

Came out to give me an estimate on adding some circuits to my home. Was on time. I received the estimate a few days later. I called to award them the job but it took them a week to return my call. I gave the job to someone else.

Providence Electric is a company that I would highly recommend! After a weekend storm my washing machine stopped working and a hallway light near my laundry room went out. I could see a large leak around the light fixture and assumed that they had both shorted out. I called Providence Electric on a Sunday after finding their name on Angie's List and reading the reviews. They called me back on Sunday and scheduled an appointment for noon on Monday. They arrived right on time. Duane was courteous, professional, and knew what he was doing. In no time at all he had replaced a bad breaker which had caused my washing machine to stop working and removed the light fixture which was damaged and full of water. He helped me to identify a possible source of the leak. Once the roof is repaired and the ceiling dries out, a new light fixture can be installed. I am very pleased and would definitely use them again.

I loved the service by Providence Electric. I used them one other time before for a small bit of work and then I was pleased with that so we had them come back t do a lot of other things. They were great. They're very timely, very professional and as far as I know the cost is very reasonable.

Providence electric was punctual, thorough, and expediant throughout the whole process. All the work was completed in one day except for the inspection which was performed the following day. The wiring on this property was a mess, and honestly, I was nicely surprised that the job didn't take longer than a day.

Overall the job went very well. The contractors were on time, worked quickly and were professional. I have done this sort of work in the past so I was familiar with what needed to be done and how they would go about doing it with the minimal amount of drywall damage. I was not disappointed. As expected, there was only one additional hole required in drywall below the breaker box and it will be easy to mud after they repaired the drywall piece. Unexpectedly, there was a blocked wall cavity behind a fireplace there was a slight problem with drill damage on one of the outlet leading to an exceedingly large hole around one of the outlets. I saw this happen, and it could not be helped. It was just the way my house was built and an unfortunate placement of the desired outlet. Could have happened to anyone. Although I have not corrected the issue yet, it appears that a large outlet wall plate and a little mud can correct the damage very quickly. The price was reasonable for the initial quote and I suspect that if I had requested a quote upfront for the cable as well as the dedicated outlets it would have been cheaper as only one trip in crawl space would have been required.

They were very personable, professional, and timely. Quoted me a price for the hot tub and stuck to it, and even helped me out with a couple of minor switch problems in the house. The price was lower than the other estimates I received and I was happy with the work. Would definitely use them again and recommend them to others.
