I had previously used this service almost a year ago and was charged a very high fee for diagnostics without fixing the problem. Since this problem is intermittent when it rains, they said they could. not fix the problem when it was working. When my appointment time arrived, the lighting was working and was told that I would be charged to perform diagnostics.

They were a little high, but he did excellent work. He was just as nice as he could be. They are very efficient and very knowledgeable. He took down a ceiling fan and put down another one. Maybe a couple hours. He did completely clean. Just his knowledge and how he surely knew it was a new switch and all kinds of things. That we knew how to care for what was installed.

We have used Mr. Electric multiple times now-we have been very impressed every time. We always ask for Carl as we think he does great work and is always very kind. This company is not the cheapest but I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" and I have used other companies here in Lexington and they don't compare. This is a very honest company and they stand behind their work. I also think Dana and the other lady in the office are super nice and go above and beyond to work us in when we need something. I will use them again, they are well worth the cost to know my family is living in a house with safe electrical work.
Description of Work: This time they changed out my main breaker and replaced some other breakers and did a few other things to both the panels.

The provider was easy to talk to, very professional, answered my questions, worked efficiently. This was part of a promotion, 2 hours of electrical service for $100. There was no sales pressure to get more service. We have more electrical work to do, but could not afford more services at this time. The guy was totally fine with this. I would use this company again.
Description of Work: Changed electrical outlets to child safety ones. Fixed a broken outlet. Installed a ceiling fan. Inspected the home and let us know what was needed for future services.

We were called to your home as you wanted to put in a book shelf and wanted the switch, florescent light and a wire removed. When we came to your home we did do the following work. We did demolition on one light in your basement, also removed wiring for a light back to an outlet and repaired that same outlet. We also installed 3 customer supplied fixtures, two at your front door as well as one on an upstairs deck. We do discuss with our customers our pricing up front and have them sign for us to proceed with the work. Once we get the OK, we then perform the work. We are sorry you felt it was expensive but we feel confident in the pricing structure we present to all of our customers on the jobs they need performed. We do hope that you consider us in the future.

Arrived on time and installed the fan timely, but it immediately made vibrating noises and had to call him back to make corrections. After a couple of months, the fan makes noises like there is something not tightened up properly.

Unfortunately this call came in as a regular service call/installation, however, while there he went on line and purchased an AL coupon for $85.00 for a 2-hour Angie's List Big Deal. (He had phoned our office to see about the deal promotion but didn't schedule the call at that point) We did assemble and hang a ceiling fan for the customer. We guarantee our work and this customer should have called to say that the job wasn't performed to his standards. We stand behind our work and do guarantee or labor. From our notes in the system, we think the customer actually disassembled the fan in the interim hence the issues with vibration. If the customer would have communicated, we would have made the situation right and are sorry for the problems 2 months out. If our company doesn't know of a concern, we have a hard time fixing the problem.

The service was excellent, the technician was very good & polite. They came in put a mat down & shoe covers on to make sure they didn't track in any dirt & cleaned up everything as they were working. They showed up on time & they came a second day to finish up the work. Everything they did was very professional, I'd highly recommend them!
Description of Work: They installed two outside electric plugs, they made 8 sockets safer by turning them into the 3 prong outlets that are grounded, he made the light switch for the basement work at the top & the bottom of the stairs and repaired a light socket.

I was extremely disappointed in my experience with Mr. Electric. I wanted to have 6 external light fixtures changed. Each one was likely to take about 15 minutes to change out and all materials were ready to go. I know that it would only take 15 or less minutes because my painter and I were able to do it in that amount of time, so I'm sure an expert could also accomplish the job in that time frame. As such, there was approximately 2 hours of work. The quote I received was $823. I understand that Mr. Electric does not charge by the hour, but what does matter is whether the price is a market price for the job to be performed. No matter how you look at it, $823 for 2 to 3 hours tops of work, is not a market price. No matter how I discussed this with the technician or office manager, the only response I got was to argue. The company made no effort to understand my point and understand if there was anything possible they could have done differently or any way to learn from the experience in the future. In addition, since they are structured where they come out to quote and then start the work, I had to take a half day off of work to be at the house to listen to the over-priced quote which is an inconvenience to the customer. Since all work was on the exterior of the house, there could have been an opportunity to come and take a look at it and provide a quote without me on site. Rather, the way the company is structured, all of these items led to one really bad experience. Since my experience with them thus far has been that they will simply argue with anything I say and refuse to reflect on themselves, I expect to see a strong dispute to this review. I am an accountant and a banker and I understand how overhead works, and there is absolutely no justification in my mind for your pricing on a small residential job like the one I had. I also expect they may try to put it back on me because the technician left his mat on my front porch and I threw it away after 2 days of it sitting there. I figured if it was that important, someone would have been back to get it. Since they weren't, I really didn't want to see anything with the Mr. Electric logo on it after the experience I had, so I threw it away. All in all, I will never use this company again and will go out of my way to make sure my friends and others know about my experience.

I will explain to everyone how our technicians were treated by you. We were called out to give you an estimate for some work to be performed before a party you were hosting on Saturday. Our Customer Service Representative did answer the phone to take your call, we scheduled an appointment that was to your liking and we showed up at your home to give you an estimate. You had a total of 9 fixtures for installation and the pricing given was very fair. I am so sorry you feel the need to continue to question the integrity of our company. Our customers always have the right in which to use our estimate and proceed or not with the work needed. As licensed electricians, we are highly qualified to do any job we bid. Not many companies offer a 10-year warranty on labor! We did call in order to pick up our mat, as we left it in an unusual place. Our Technician's are to enter from the front door on all calls but we were told to enter in to your home through a different door once the mat was placed at your front door. After the encounter the technician had with you and your demeaning comments while he was in your home for the estimate he left through your garage totally not thinking about his mat at that point. As managers, we felt we should come and pick up on the next business day, which was Monday. We stand by our work, our pricing and our professionalism. Thank you for your review.

The switches were put in properly. Some of them were crooked and not in line with the others. While trying to fish a wire through the wall he went into the room behind the wall and punched a hole into so he could get the wire where it needed to be. He didn't even ask befor doing it. The hole was just left when he was done with out any comment about it. It wouldn't have been to hard to fix accept he hadn't cut out the piece so I could replace it, he had like I said punched a hole.

We appreciate your business. Our call at your home was to come and extend a cable outlet in the kitchen and also extend a 12/2 circuit in the kitchen. According to the customer, they were adding a back splash and needed some electrical work performed. According to the paperwork we have, the customer was informed that there would be some drywall damage prior to the work being done. He agreed as well as signed for the work to be done. After all was done, the customer agreed he would have to repair the damage and signed that the work was complete and to his approval. We apologize there was some misunderstanding, however, the drywall damaged was discussed prior and after the work performed. We do stand by our work and would like to discuss if needed. The electrician was very prompt and courteous. He came in and inspected the first fan to replace the light kit. He could not do the work because the light kit needed for this fan did not match what I had purchased (I had old style with plug). Therefore, no work done. He found the switch was broken on the second fan light kit and replaced it. Did not need the new light kit as I thought. The repairman was in my home less than 40 minutes. Later, I called the company to inquire about a return service for the balance of the two house of service labor. They declined to return saying the coupon was for a one-time trip and even though it required only 30-45 minutes of work, that was all I could get. I understand the coupon is for obtaining new clients, but I was disappointed not to receive the two hours of service.
Description of Work: I purchased the deal of $85 for two hours of labor. I anticipated the scope of work to include installing a light kit on one ceiling fan and repairing/replacing light kit on a second fan.

The work was satisfactory. i did not care that part of the visit was to try to sell me a contract to Mr. Electric as well as two related companies. That is why I will not use them again.
Description of Work: replaced some lights in the bathrooms that were hard to access. I thought the estimate was high but then saw that one of the light fixtures was really out of date and needed quite a bit of work.

In another room two florescent fixtures were not working. You explained they were hard to access and were not working and you needed assistance to have them fixed. While on site we also did our full electrical evaluation of your electrical system at no charge. For the work we did we always offer our Advantage Plan which allows you 15% off the day of service and for a complete year. It is also accepted at our sister companies, Mr. Rooter, Mr. Appliance and Rainbow Restoration. It is a standard procedure for our company. Our Angie's List deal was for an "Outdoor Lighting Evaluation" for $99.00. We actually had a Service Professional come and speak with you on the morning of 7-31-2014 and looked over your entire system. While on site that morning we found an outdoor rated wire ran on inside of home consisted of a code violation. Our Technician also found indoor connectors used on the exterior which also consisted of a code violation. It is our job as professionals to inform of problems we see when on your property. During inspection of the first fixture it looked as if a socket had gone bad and someone tried to replace buy just twisting the wires together and taping them. This could lead to a short. The fixtures had been ran in a daisy-chain manner meaning the first fixture would have correct voltage but further down the line the voltage would drop and cause premature lamp failure. With the code violations mentioned above the system should be disconnected and not used until corrections made. With the permission of Mrs. Little, the Technician did unplug the system. On the evening of 8-5-2014, and during our second trip to your home, we did an actually visual lighting display in order for you to see. We left this in your hands and have not heard back from you since. We would be glad to discuss the options if you should be as so kind to contact our office. We have no record of a phone call made into the office since the time we spent at your home. Thank you for your time.

We wanted to have change a few outlets from 2 prong to 3 prong and a few other things time permitting.. We purchased all the parts necessary as the deal only covered labor. The electrician got here and said the 15 minutes it took him to get here were deducted fromt the 2 hours then he was talking to my husband for 20 minutes and that was deducted from the 2 hours. Then he said to do what we wanted would cost an additional $284 as he said that they charge by the job not the hour. So I contacted their office and the woman I spoke to confirmed what the electrician said and that he could do work for 40 minutes under the deal. I am very disappointed in their service and lack of communication. The details state the coupon is for 2 hours of electrical labor and does not include parts, permits or materials. It does not state anything about a travel charge. The technician is nice but the lady in their office was a little rude. 11/14/14, Response to company response: Thank you. Yes, after some negotiating after the initial problem with time, labor, and terms of the deal, we are fine with the work and cost. The deal I purchased was for 2 hours of electrical labor for $99, and that is all I expected. No where in the fine print did we see that travel time to our house would count toward the labor, and, we had all parts and materials ready to go. No where did it say that we would have to pay MORE ($284 was the quote!!) than the $99 for work that fit into the 2 hours of electrical labor that I paid for. Once at our home, the technician (and owner by phone) said that their company does not charge by the hour, but by the job, so we'd owe more for this particular job. But that was NOT what the deal I purchased said. It was a pretty straightforward job, so I was surprised when told that we would really get less than one hour of labor once the travel time and talking time was deducted. And that I would owe an extra, pretty significant, amount. I did not realize that I would get a call before he came...we had confirmed the Monday morning time less than one business day before, and someone was home during the scheduled time. I am sorry for that confusion. The technician was very polite, did good work, and completed the outlet job satisfactorily once his boss approved the work without us having to pay an addition $284, which is why my husband tipped him. :) In the end, we got about 45 minutes to one hour of labor for the $99, and did not have to pay more for the job.

We do go above and beyond for our customers. I think our communication was a problem from the get go. The entire service call and that day had several problems. We were only given your telephone number and were not aware your husband would be involved in the process. We could not get you to answer your telephone that morning (your call was set up for 9-11am) and went on to our second call in place. Once we did hear from you at 10:30, we headed toward your home. Your husband was very kind to my employee to the point where he even tipped our Technician. I feel that once the two, my technician and your husband spoke, they came up with a plan. You received installation of 9-11 two-prong to three-prong outlets changed out for your $99.00 payment to Angie's List. We apologize for the travel time issue. I do feel you got a great deal and hope that this clears up some of the misunderstanding. Please feel free to call us anytime. We would be glad to do anything you may need in the future.

In part my error for not requesting an estimate ahead of time, but we utilized a Big Deal coupon with another electrical company several weeks ago. They performed considerably more work than requested of Mr. Electric for less than $200. My (incorrect) assumption then was that this current coupon would have more than covered the installation of a ceiling fan on an existing bracket. The quote received on arrival (over $100 more) was outrageous. The timing of the service call also did not run smoothly. It was set up for between 3:00 and 5:00 PM. I received a call a little after 1:00 PM from the technician saying he had cancellations and could he come over earlier. I told him him I had to check if someone would be at home before 3:00 and would call him back to confirm. He drove over to my house anyway; there was nobody there to answer the door! I left a voice mail at 2:45 once I had contacted my son to say it was now OK to go to the house. I heard nothing from the technician until just before 5:00 and that he did not receive my voice mail.

We apologize for any miscommunication. We do no estimate over the phone as estimates are not accurate accounts to true jobs. AL deals are done to gain new customers and give them discounts on using our service for the first time in order to gain their business. Your $85.00 dollars paid (for a credit of $200.00) plus the additional $70.00 over the 200.00 credit would have given you a total of $155.00 for a ceiling fan installation, which is an extremely discounted rate. Your charges quoted while on site included additional height charges (as you had a tall master bedroom ceiling) assembling the fan as well as balancing and making certain it had a NEC rated fan box in ceiling. As far as your scheduled appointment, from 3-5pm. we only offered an earlier time as we had an opening. Once our technician called and you couldn't meet he went on to his next call. We were headed your way by 4:30-5pm. Hence the reason we do give our customers 2-hour window options. We hope that you will call us in the future for your electrical needs. Thank you for your comments....we do appreciate your honest assessment.

It was like too much. The guy was good. It costs a lot, we just couldn't afford at this time.

There was miscommunication from the beginning. The person we were dealing with knew that we wanted light fixtures replaced in 2 bathrooms and the ceiling fan installed. She did not explain, nor , I guess, did we read the fine print saying that the $99 was for worrk only and if the technician had to install anything, the entire job was reestimated at their standard electician prices. The revised estimate came out to $659. We decided that the job could be done by a handy man so just went ahead with the fan only. The technician was polite.

Thank you for your honest comments. Yes, we did have an Angie's Deal for labor and that deal did included detailed fine print. The time included travel to the home and work while there with parts that were readily available for anything you wanted to install that day. It takes approximately 1-1/2 hours to hang a fan with putting together, balancing, etc.....and at the point when your Angie's List deal time frame ended we could stay and complete what you would have like to add at that point. When given the option to proceed at our additional cost, our customers are always given the option. We hope that you will call us in the future for your needs.
