He did a great job! He came promptly for an estimate, his work was very neat and well - done.

They were very professional. Seemed to have a good handle on what needed to be done. We were looking for someone to fix a problem with our deck, joist facer board band, and a large door that was not flashed properly. We went with another company that bid at a lower price.

Redeemed himself by offering other contractors.

Ours was an excellent meeting with very professional representatives who were prepared, knowledgeable and appropriate. Though we did not pursue this contract, I would consider the firm for any future projects.

He was very nice, we just talked on the phone. He told me that he would be too expensive for what I wanted. He gave me a ball park figure. He was very honest with me. He was punctual in getting back to me.

Jimmy's crew's came in and did the needed demolition to prepare the basement for finishing, first covering the stairway opening with plastic covering to keep the dust out of the upstairs living quarters. Paper runners were placed down on the hardwood flooring through the travel areas of the upstairs where workers needed to travel while getting to and from the basement area. The job began in early summer of 2013 and was projected to be finished in the fall of 2013. The various aspects of construction progressed throughout the summer with the usual surprises that often pop up in any construction project. At one point early on in the project we had an open ditch going across the floor from the planned wetbar area to the bathroom, and being a wet spring, the ditch had been constantly filling with groundwater which was being pumped out with a temporary sump pump Jimmy's plumber had set up in the bathroom hole. We got a call from a young houseguest who was staying there during the summer saying that a waterline was broken in the basement and water was gushing into the air all over the place. I instructed her over the phone to shut off the main water supply line and that did nothing to alleviate the problem so when I got over there, discovered that it was the temporary sump pump line that had come loose at the clamp at the top of the pvc pipe and it was gushing like Old Faithful, LOL. I unplugged the pump and reattached the pvc and that was that. I did let Jimmy know about it though. Jimmy used sub-contractors for most of the work and the quality was very good for the most part except for a couple of problems we ran into with plumbing, but I have to add that the plumbing was probably the most challenging area to tackle of all the disciplines. J & R Construction uses an interactive website and mobile system for their clients which allows constant communication back and forth about what is going on in the project at any given time that we found to be fantastic. If you are away for a few days you can stay up to date with daily posting of pictures of the latest progress. Questions and concerns are addressed quickly by Jimmy or his team members. Everything was scheduled out in advance so there were virtually no surprises. We knew when we needed to have materials selected, where we needed to meet Seth to pick out fixtures, etc. Working with the J & R Team was a real pleasure and we would recommend them to anyone looking to do a project. Our basement was finished in October of 2013 and we couldn't be more pleased with the finished product. We have now spent the winter using the Basement living space and it is more than what we envisioned, it has truly become another home in our home.

We've not initiated anything with them yet. We were pleased with the professionalism and even with the quote with the degree of detail that we got. We just haven't moved forward with them. The estimate ended up being roughly 10 to 15 thousand higher than what we had budgeted for and he knew that going in. There were certain things that we asked him to put in, which he did, which I think blew the price up a little higher. That is where we are right now. He was going to try to readjust things and get the price down a little bit.

When Jimmie visited me to go over the proposal, he gave me his word that he would take good care of me. And, that's exactly what he did. A dishwasher was installed incorrectly and did so much damage to my home. I had to deal with the installer's insurance company so it seemed like forever before it was done. Jimmie' team (plumber, drywall, hardwood floor, cabinet removal/replacement, cleanup) were on time, very friendly and provided awesome work. While the entire process was stressful, J&R Construction turned it around for me. My home is put back together and the hardwood floor is beautiful. I will use this company again when the needed arises.

Jimmy had several crews who did most of this project. If Jimmy supervised it, then it was more likely to be done well. However, many of these projects were completed by his subcontractors. He did not do a good job of supervising them. Specifically, we have paid $1000 to hire another contractor to repair the siding which was not installed correctly. Jimmy did send the siding contractor out to repair the defective work initially but even that repair was not done correctly. The concrete drive was not installed correctly and we have had a few problems with the concrete reinforcement migrating above the concrete surface which was a problem for tires and bare feet. The plumbing contractor installed the pex plumbing with automotive clamps instead of the required plumbing clamps. My daughter and son-in-law hired him to repair their leaky basement. The basement still leaks. Personally, Jimmy is a great guy. I think if he actually did all the work, then good outcomes could be expected. But his crews are very poor representatives of his business. Unfortunately the project suffers because of these sub contractors.

Have not yet decided on direction or provider.

They were too high so I did not use them. Their quoted price was about $2,000. It was a very positive experience, but I was able to replace the entire door for less cost than their quotation, so their quotation was very high.

I love the work, it feels like a new house. This is the second time I used their services, the first time they remodeled my kitchen. I have been impressed with how they stick to the time frame originally given. They are willing to fix any issues that come up. The workers are clean and blocked off the rest of the house so dust would not get into the other rooms. They do excellent work and are timely.

The process in getting a quote from this company went really well. They were even on time.

We are getting bids for a total house remodel. We live in Frankfort, Ky which is 23 miles from Lexington Kentucky. Where the contractor is located. The contractor came out and took measurements and said he would get with back with us in two weeks. He just called and said Frankfort was too far for him to do our work. It is strange since other contractors from Frankfort are bidding the work. Why did he even come out to bid the work then

J & R did a great job. Everything was painted very neatly, very thoroughly. The work was performed quickly, efficiently by Art and his team who were professional, on time, courteous. Jimmy, company president, is easy to work with. He is professional, to the point, pleasant. Jimmy kept us informed of the project status in a timely manner and ensured that everything went smoothly. Once the job started I did not pay it any thought until the work was completed. It is a very nice feeling to not have to worry about the details, to have confidence that the work will be performed in a quality fashion, and to know there won't be any unwanted surprises along the way.

They came over here and were wonderful. They said they would send me a picture of my shower and they did. He said to give him two weeks and I would get the proposal. It’s been a month and they haven’t called me back. They didn’t even answer two emails. It’s too bad because I would have hired them. I feel like this is really unprofessional and I would at least like a response to let me know that they are busy and cannot do the job. I have heard they hand pick who they want.

we will have to decline the estimate. They will give us a follow-up call next week.

Design and initial construction went quite well. Material selection was easy; Seth has a natural ability with materials and colors and really understood what we wanted to accomplish. The only real hiccup we had was the space designed for the refrigerator did not take into account the need to open the door to fill it. We were able to work with them for an appropriate solution. Subcontractor provided a panel with the wrong color on it, which J&R ensured was replaced at no extra cost to us.

From the beginning, we knew we were on the right track with J&R. Their designer, Seth, took a lot of time with us in preparing the estimate, took pictures and measurements and our initial drawings and came back with a much better design than we originally had that allowed us more room and what has turned out to be a more aesthetically pleasing area. The estimate, while higher than the others we received, was itemized and incredibly detailed which leant a great deal of confidence to our decision to use J&R. They didn't just throw something together to figure out later - they knew what needed to be done, what it would cost and put it in writing. Due to our work schedules, one thing we needed was a schedule laid out for us at the beginning, which we got. What we hadn't anticipated was our local building inspector throwing a huge stick into the spokes of our project's wheels which required concrete work that pushed everything back. Even with that headache, Jimmy McKinney was able to coordinate the concrete work and keep everything else close to the original schedule. Via text messages, we seldom if ever had to wonder what was going on at any given time. Traversing that aspect of our job was huge and J&R did it with very little problem. Overall, from the design to assisting us with paint and trim choices, to working on a custom, built-in desk in the studio room, choosing windows, coordinating drywallers, painters, plumbers, counter installation and a variety of other things to the final product, we couldn't be happier. If you have a project you're considering, at the very least you owe it to yourself to get an estimate from J&R - our project had the final details taken care of today and, in all honesty, it is better than we had hoped and we're incredibly happy with our new rooms and our kitchen. Hats off to Jimmy, Seth and the entire team of specialists at J&R Construction.

I was very disappointed with their follow-up on the drawings and cost estimates. They failed to return my phone calls on two successive days.

It was a really positive experience. They were very professional, prompt and thorough. They did everything I wanted them to do and they did it well. The pricing was reasonable.

J & R Construction Services Inc wouldn't give us an itemized quote, I asked them for one but they wouldn't and that is why I didn't want to work with them.

He was very nice on the phone, and we talked a little bit just over the phone about what I wanted and needed. He told me that he could tell me right from the top of our conversation what the price was going to be which I thought was way too high. I told him that. He came down a couple of thousand on it. However, it was still going to be too high, and we basically parted ways on the telephone because he was too expensive, but I really liked the fact that he was quite honest over the phone. He seemed to care a lot about that I understood what I was looking at. He was just a nice man, very honest. I have met him before at a home builders association show, and I liked him. That is why I called him, and we talked further about what I needed, but it is not going to be within our budget.

J&R did a good job of designing a new patio pad and sidewalk and then having it poured with concrete. They also replaced a section of cracked sidewalk.
