Gilkey Windows of Central KY

All promptly and neatly.The team arrived on schedule and removed the old window, and removed some rotted wood. They installed the new window with new framing and sealed the external joints very nicely.

We selected Gilkey Windows because of what we judged as their superior design, construction and service. We were not disappointed in the service and continue to be impressed with the workmanship of the windows. Because of the cold weather the window installation was moved back several times but Gilkey of Central Kentucky stayed in contact and kept us up to date. One of the selling points to us was that Gilkey continues to have their own installers, they do not subcontract that work out. I was told that their installers have in most cases many years of service within the Gilkey organization. That turned out to be true. The crew of two replaced 22 windows in two days, left no mess and provided NO earthly reason for a call back. When the Gilkey staff called to ask if there were any issues with the windows or the installation all we could do was sing the praises of the company and their associates. The rugged design does cut down slightly on the amount of glass surface but we have not noticed the difference. The noise level from outside has been significantly reduced. Although not the warmest of summers, our air conditioning expense was about 22% less than the previous year and I believe at least some of that has to be attributed to the windows. And there was still enough cold weather in March with blustery winds that we could feel the difference between the new Gilkey windows and the old insulated windows as far as much less cold air infiltration. We waited this long in order to "digest" our feelings about Gilkey and the experience altogether. If we have to invest in windows again, it will be Gilkey. No "buyer's remorse" here, no question about that!.

I have no complaints with the quality of the door, and the installation was fine. The problem is follow up support and warranty support is completely non-existent. There was a screw left out of the handle on initial installation causing it to loosen pretty quickly. We chased them on the phone for a couple of weeks and I finally just fixed it myself. Now the lock has broken and we've been chasing them for 3 weeks with no luck. They won't return calls, never answer their phone. I can't fix this one myself. I at least am going to have to have parts. This is a security issue at this point. We can't just ignore it. I will never do business with this outfit again. Addendum 9/8/2015: Perhaps as a result of my negative review, the proprietor personally came to my house and resolved the problem the next business day and he was contrite. I'll give him credit for that. I won't change anything I said originally, but I will recognize that this is a Mom & Pop operation and they don't have a big staff. That's part of the reason I chose them. I didn't want to deal with a big national chain, and wouldn't have gotten better service from any of them. Given the fact that they were eventually responsive, and given the fact that I still consider the door to be a high quality product, I'll change my overall score from a D to a C. I can't do much better than that. The fact is it did take three weeks to replace a lock on a door from a local supplier, and prospective customers need to know that. (Original review 9/4/2015)

Excellent. Very nice staff, excellent craftsmanship and quick installation.

We took bids from three dealers and liked Gilkey Windows the best. We ordered the windows but when they came in from the supplier they were the wrong type. The manager was very sorry and offered us a discount on those windows. We declined and they reordered the windows we had chosen. When they came in they were installed within two days and the work was excellent. All our neighbors like them and have asked where we got them. We would definitely use Gilkey Windows again.

From estimate and contract it was awhile before the job was done; we knew this from the beginning. Once the job was started, it was done quickly and professionally.

Went to showroom to look at windows was on the phone when we got there took 3 more phone calls while we were trying to talk to him . Was on the phone when we walked out . We were ready to purchase and they lost a very good sale won't ever go back .

After paying to heat and cool the house for a couple of years with the lowest quality contractor grade windows installed during the housing boom, we decided it was time to replace them. I spent a week or so wandering around the showrooms, trying to get a base price before a real estimate. After dealing with some of the other more sales focus people, I finally settled on Gilkey. Jon was very low key and straight forward. I also liked that he only has one team of installers that make sure everything is perfect before they leave. They are also fairly thorough in cleaning up after themselves. We have no complaints about the windows or the service. I would definitely recommend Gilkey Windows of Lexington.

Jon at Gilkey is wonderful to work with. He was very thorough and knowledgeable when he explained the window he had to offer for me. He was very helpful and explained in details that were down to my level since I am a single woman. Since I requested windows with built in mini blinds, he did explain that the time for delivery may take longer as these are customer made and delivered for each installation. His installers (two (2) total) arrived on time on the day of installation. They worked efficiently together. You could tell that they had been working together for a long period of time as they were like a well oiled machine. I was very skeptical that the work could be completed in one day however watching them work, I was not surprised when they were completed within the one day. They cleaned all caulk from the outside and once they completed the window installation, they caulked each window. The installers were very informative and took the time to answer all my questions. When they completed the installation and before they left, the installers made sure they had cleaned up all mess which is wonderful as I have had other jobs completed at my house and come home to a complete mess. I would recommend Gilkey to anyone considering replacing windows. Because I chose to have windows with built in blinds, I cannot state what the price would be for windows without blinds as that was NOT a consideration for me. Not cleaning of blinds, no worry with replacement or expensive window treatments should be considered when you look at the price I paid. My windows are not normal size but extra long too when you look at the price I paid.

We contracted in May after interviewing 5 different installers but did not plan on installation until late August. Due to the summer rains, installations were several weeks late. However that was not a problem and Gilkey Windows worked around my schedule. They were on time and the process took 2 days to complete. The installers informed me of the process and answered all my questions. They were very courteous and were on task the entire time. During the installation, they had to pull the old vinyl window siding off. This caused some paint chips to fall on my black roofing below my dormers. They vacuumed all the paint chips off my roof. I was very surprised by the thoroughness of the cleanup. That night we discovered that some of the grids in the windows panes were slightly off. The horizontal grids were bowed downward on one side. When I brought this to the attention to the installers, they agreed and notified John. He came out and totally agreed that the grid lines were bowed. He asked what would make me happy and I requested all new replacements. He agreed and all 21 window was replaced. He also followed up after the second installation to make sure everything was to my satisfaction. I would definitely recommend Gilkey Windows of Lexington. The price was very reasonable, they installed (both times) promptly, and John was always available when contacted.

On a friend's recommendation I contracted with Gilkey to install new windows at my residence. They did a fine job and I was happy with the windows. I have now sold that house and purchased another one, and have again contracted with Gilkey to install new windows.

After obtaining 3 quotes on replacement windows we decided to go with Gilkey. Jon was very professional in his sales approach and answered all of our questions completely and honestly. We never felt like we were getting a sales pitch and never felt any pressure at all. Jon helped us select the product that was right for our older home's style (1960's ranch) and our desire to improve the energy efficiency and comfort level of the home. Installation day was well within the timeline agreed upon and we could not have been happier with the crew. They were professional, efficient, courteous and completely no-nonsense. The job was completed start to finish in about 4 hours and they left everything exactly as it was when they arrived. We are thrilled with the new windows and are still amazed at how much street noise they drown out. We are so happy with our purchase that we just recently placed an order for 7 more windows to complete the entire home that will be installed later this fall.

The manager telephoned several times to stay in communication. On one ocassion the provider requested a delay due to severe local weather delaying their schedule. This was not a problem. On the rescheduled date the workers arrived precisely on time. got to work immediately, and within 2 1/h hours had all three new windows installed. The workers were all business, no horsing around, and did not go anywhere in the house where they did not have to. Very pleasant, efficient, and professional.

Encountered some problems removing screens but not excessively difficult. Their installation was okay but one of the 12 windows tore up plaster around window back to the aluminum edging. large chunk of plaster fell out of window. No follow up to check on installation.

Issues with timliness of getting estimate and actual install. My initial call for est was on sep 4. I was told they'd look at house & give est within a week. I called on sep 16 to find status of visit & est. they had been busy and would come by end of week. I called again sep 23-they had been slammed with work but would be by within a few days. Sep 27 they called with est and I paid 50% down & was told I'd get install late Oct / early Nov. I called Nov 14 to find status--they were short of installers --will install within a week. Install accomplised on nov 21.

I had them give me a quote on 2 windows. It was a little high so I chose not to go that route. They were very prompt and professional and I would use them when I really need the service.

Have had windows for 6 months. No problems. Very Happy. My heating bills dropped significantly

They quoted me $5360 for the job. I didn't go with them because of the price. They were very professional. The company I went with matched the price for the window as well as the siding. They responded very well. I might use them in the future if their price is right.

Jon provided reasonable quote for siding and was very professional. We decided to go with another quote that was a little more competitive, but the Gilkey Windows were a close second.

I had to replace 12 windows in my home, and money was an issue. Before I even began speaking with sales reps, I contacted my building inspector and got a copy of the regulations regarding tempered glass. I was armed with knowledge and ready to face the "sleazy salesman." Needless to say, I was surprised and immediately impressed when Jon came out to give me an estimate. Jon was the only person who did not insist that I had to have tempered glass for three of my windows (I knew I didn't need it because of my research), and that huge cost savings (approximately $150 per window). In fact, when I specifically asked about it, he was honest and said that I didn't need it. Also, since he knew that money was an issue, he gave me an itemized quote so I could choose which features I wanted in the windows (full tear outs/pocket replacements, type of gas, double/triple, grids, etc...). I was thrilled to see that I was able to afford the Gilkey Windows that I wanted. The day of the installation, the crew came. They introduced themselves to me and were very professional. They cleaned up after they were done, and they showed me how to operate my new windows. I had one very oddly shaped window, and I noticed the next week that the caulking wasn't holding correctly. Jon immediately came out and fixed it for me....no questions asked. I was so impressed by his strong level of customer service. It is one thing to give great customer service before you are paid, but it is another to continue to provide that level of service after you have been paid. I've noticed an immediate savings on my heating and cooling bills. I think the only person who is not happy is my cat, because she can no longer find hot sun spots in the rooms. The windows are so efficient that all of the sun spots are room temperature.

This was a wonderful experience. We had 3 companies give us estimates and Gilkey was of the highest quality with the most reasonable price. We had 23 windows replaced and they had it done in a day. They arrived right on time, set up, and got right to work. It was a very cold day and they worked quickly to ensure that we didn't lose more heat than necessary. They cleaned up both inside and out. All windows were installed in one day. Great experience.

Jon with Gilkey was professional from the very start and communicated throughout the process. Although I went with the most expensive replacement windows they were in-line with other quotes including a quote from the manufacturer. Because of weather we were delayed a couple of days however when it cleared up they were able to completely finish the job in one day. This included a large picture window and 14 other windows. The price was greater than 5,000 but less than 10,000. I would certainly investigate the differences in the window manufacturing components and determine what product fits your need. I am impressed with the overall job and certainly if I have replacement window needs in the future I would go with Gilkey again. BTW They cleaned everything up completely leaving no sign that a crew had just been there tearing out windows!

I researched a lot and decided that while Gilkey may not be the cheapest, it is the best price for what is being installed. I also felt like I was dealing with honest business people who would make sure it was done right. I like the fact that it is a one-stop shop. They manufacture & they install - no passing the buck onto someone else if it doesn't go right. It did take a while for my windows to come in, since it was a different color trim on the outside than the inside, but that was a manufacturing issue. Sometimes things like that happen. I also had a small issue with the storm door that was annoying but MORE importantly they did everything to make sure it was fixed as promptly as possible. They were personal and hands on with making sure everything went well. I was also very pleased that the men installing the windows had been working several years for Gilkey and were very experienced (even though each house is different). They were prompt, efficient, and courteous.
