I have had really bad luck with heating and air providers. I finally feel like I found a company that is competent and professional. This was the second time in two years that my new heat pump has had to be replaced. I really felt that Engineered went to bat with the manufacturer for me. I will use them with confidence in the future.

I am a repeat costumer, I used them when they first opened up to install a furnace. They were great then!! I have used them to repair a hot-water tank and they were very good!! I can't give these people enough complements....They are considerate to my tents of my rentals. Very hard to find a company like this....

Called after hearing a strange noise from compressor on Sunday. Couldn't come until Monday morning. Dave showed up on time. He checked out the unit but could not find any problems. Unit appeared to be working normally. The noise I heard the day before was not present. About 1 1/2 hours after Dave left the unit cycled on but the air handler was not working but compressor was. Immediately turned off the unit and contacted Dave. He returned my call within 30 minutes. Said he would be at my house at the end of the day after he finished his remaining calls. He called later to let my know he was on his way. When he arrived he said he had two thoughts regarding the problem, one being a bad thermostat. He checked the blower relay first, but it was working properly. Then he checked the thermostat and discovered it had voltage problems. He replaced the thermostat but one display feature was not working. He went ahead and installed it so the unit would function that night. He returned first thing next morning, as he promised, and installed another thermostat. He gave me a short tutorial on how to program it. Dave was polite, knowledgeable, and professional. He answered all my questions. Thanks for fixing our problem.
Description of Work: Checked noise from HVAC compressor. Determined that new thermostat was need.

Contacted Engineered Heating and Air based on a recommendation from an associate and positive reviews I read on Angie's List. I had been having trouble with a leak in my downstairs heat pump system since early 2013. During an 18 month period since 2013, I had 2 different companies service the unit. The first company had difficulty locating any leak, and the last company recommended a full replacement. I called Engineered Heating and Air for a second opinion and am so happy that I did. I spoke with the owner Tom on the telephone. He was very professional and arranged to have their service technician Victor inspect my system. Victor was very knowledgeable and thorough. He checked out my system, located my heat pump leaks, and took the time to show me the problem. He repaired both leaks and added the necessary Freon to my unit and it is now working great. I am so pleased, I will be contacting Tom to thank him personally and I plan on signing up for an annual maintenance plan.
Description of Work: Checked for Freon leaks in air handler, line set and heat pump. Repaired leaks and added proper amount of Freon to heat pump.

We had some trouble with our 20 year old AC last year so it was time for a new system in 2014. We requested quotes from 3 highly rated HVAC companies in Lexington and condidered Engineered Heating and Air to be the best choice. Tom Robeson, the VP, was referred to me by a friend and I was very impressed by his thouroughness and professionalism throughout the process. He carefully inspected my present system, measured all rooms and windows, asked about any problems we had currently, and calculated required capacity for new system. Tom suggested cost effective improvements to increase air flow to a problem room over the garage. He also brought up some potential rebates and tax credits that I was not aware of and that were not mentioned by others that ended up saving us an additional $1250. The total cost after all credits and rebates was quite reasonable and lower than competitors. We plan to stay in our current house for many more years so we wanted an efficient HVAC that could save money on heating and cooling. We are very pleased with the performance and comfort of our new system. The installers, Victor and Zach, did a good job under difficult conditions in our hot attic and finished in two days. They installed new furnace, replaced several supply ducts, built a plywood platform, and verified performance. The air flow to bonus room was improved and that room is now closer in temperature to the rest of the upstairs. I wanted to verify the new system in all seasons before writing a review. It's now been 7 months since the installation and well into the heating season and the furnace is working great. We did encounter a problem with the filter cabinet when changing the media filter for the first time but Tom fixxed this at no charge. Brian, the service tech, was very competent and courteous. He made a simple modification to the cabinet within 30 minutes that fixed the problem and he also cleanrd up the inevitable insulation that always drops whenever I access the attic. I highly recommend Tom Robeson and his company Engineered Heating and Air to anyone looking for a trustworthy, reputable, and economical solution to any HVAC issues.

Instructed an associate (Jeff) to call them based on Angie's List review to provide and estimate to remove and replace a 3 ton Goodman Heat Pump system. Mike showed up (this is a tenant occupied home) and advised a approximated amount to replace the existing system with a Trane system and that he would email quote. After repeated attempts to reach Mike with text messages (his number ending in 4689) no response as of 12/4/2014. Not sure what the issue is, but at least a reply of some sort would have been appreciated. As an FYI, I just replaced my entire system in Florida, tech that came out to inspect the issue diagnosed issue, provided cost to repair 15 year old system. I asked cost for new one to compare, provided a menu of 3.5 ton systems by Trane or Goodman by Seer rating, I decided to replace entire system Chose system, signed iPad, scheduled appointment and had it in my email account as he left the house. Entire new system A/C and gas furnace installed 4 days later. Might want to work on getting the quote to the customer same day/next day and respond to inquiries. I have instructed my associate to contact another of the vendors on Angie's List and to reduce tenant's rent next month to offset electrical bill due to running strip heat instead of heat pump.

I am sorry to disappoint you! I guess on a positive note, your review helped us catch a glitch in our technology. I got with Mike to see where the breakdown was. He said he surveyed the house and advised the tenant that he would get with your associate (Jeff) to give him a price. Mike called Jeff and gave him a verbal price and was told if you were interested Jeff would get Mike your email address to forward a written proposal. Mike never heard back so he thought you had chose another hvac professional. Fast forward a couple of days and we got this review. Here is what we found had occured. We are assuming Jeff has an I-phone. When Jeff had initially texted Mike the address of the rental house, Mike had an I-phone as well. The text came through "I-message" instead of regular text message. Between the time of that initial text on the I-phone, Mike's I-phone broke so we replaced it with a Motorola Droid. He still was receiving text messages from "new" texting contacts, but was not receiving texts from fellow I-phone users that had texted him previously. Turns out Apple routs/sends/encrypts there text differently through I-message and Mike never received Jeff's texts to send a proposal. That's ashamed because we could have done a good job there. Mike said it was very straightforward and easy. Anyway, seems like a fluke circumstance that we've since gone to Apple and fixed. Thanks for the review, you probably saved us a couple days in solving this issue. If you would like to discuss further, please contact me at 859-231-0505. Regards, Tom

I have a service contract for a twice a year inspection of my heat pump. Brian came right on time. He checked out everything under the house, installed a new filter and added a bit of refrigerant at the outside unit. My experience, as usual, was outstanding with this company and their techs. Brian explained exactly what he did. I really appreciate the thoroughness of the technicians who work for this company and how well they relate to their customers. The amount I was charged was for the special filter which my unit uses and for the refrigerant used. I intend to sign up for a service contract for the coming year.

9 year old "top of the line Carrier (at the time) Heat Pump triggered house smoke detectors on season first start up and then shut it's self down. Called the Company that originally installed it (second owners) and their service tech said it was a failed fan motor and it would be $850 for parts and labor to replace. He recommended a new system because of the age and that it was a builders special system. They are top rated on Angie's List. Called a second also top rated on Angie's list and they wanted $1450 for the same part and also pushed "their brand of system" for the special price of $7000. Contacted Engineered Heating and Air and Mike was out the next morning. He is a graduate engineer, and went on to tell us our system was the very best made 9 years ago, that the installation was excellent and "if it were his house he would replace the fan motor." Their cost $450 installed. Thursday (10/30) Brian arrived after keeping us advised of his arrival by phone ... Neat, clean and professional! Sadly the fan motor was rusted to the fan shaft and he and the Service Manager Dave (who also came out) could not pull it apart with a gear puller. The said that they could get the fan and housing housing (only way to proceed) at an additional cost of $275 installed, but Carrier did not have the parts in Lexington. They suggested authorizing expedited shipping. Since the weather was going below freezing over the weekend, they also brought out three space heaters (we had not been a customer before this) to keep the house warm until the part would arrive on Monday or Tuesday. They called Monday mid-day to say the part arrived and that they would be out at the end of the day to finish the repairs. Brian arrive at 6pm Monday night and had the new fan, housing and motor installed very quickly. The total cost for the three new parts with expeditied shipping and labor was $803. In this day and age of poorly trained people and trying to up sell based on "fear uncertainty and doubt" everyone at Engineered Heating and Air should be congratulated for being honest, well trained and absolutely completely customer focused. I am 72, have lived in a dozen different places and have never experienced this level of professionalism and customer service in the "home owner" service providers area. I would say it's the friendly Kentucky folks but remember two other Lexington contractors tried to sell us a new system for 10 times the cost. We know that the law of averages say we have at best 5 or 6 more years out of the existing system, but now we can "reserve a little" each year for it's replacement. We will definitely call Mike and Engineered Heating and Air when that day comes. Also, we have scheduled them to come out, make us an annual service customer, and do a complete preventative maintenance service.

I'm not technical, but he checked belts, took the engine apart, cleaned out the condensation line (he thought the root cause may have been a plug in the condensation line that cleared itself when I turned the heater off?he flushed the line anyway). He worked hard doing all those things, and it gave me confidence that he said they were okay. He did find two wires that had been previously disconnected (by some other service provider), which creates a hazard should the unit overheat. He secured the wires and set up another appointment to reconnect them to the missing grounding piece.
Description of Work: When my furnace started to make a banging sound I'd never heard, I called to see if Engineered Heating and Air had weekend service (I was a new customer). To my relief they did, and the technician arrived in the time frame promised, was extremely thorough in looking for the problem, very honest in his assessment, and after all his work, it was an easy fix that fell within the normal weekend service charge. Extremely pleased to have found a responsive, honest, skilled provider.

We had an issue with one of our HVAC units, the technician came out and quickly diagnosed the issue and very clearly gave us the options for how to resolve it. It went well. I just bought my first property and within the first week of signing over the papers my AC went out. Not having to deal with this before since I rented, and not being a native to Lexington, I didn't know who to call. I read great reviews of them on Angie's List and was not disappointed. I received same day service. The technician also worked his schedule so that I could come and meet him on my lunch break. The technician was professional and courteous. He replaced my air filter (wore shoe covers-professional) and replaced what I think was a bad coil. I would highly recommend to my friends and family. I was very lucky that I found professional and knowledgeable repair company on my first try.

The repair occurred as planned without encouraging any additional problem or extra expense. David is very courteous and knows how to do his job well. Tom the part owner of company is courteous as he gave me different options (repair vs repair of coil and the different priced).
Description of Work: I had my A/C tune-up with spring. David immediately noticed oil leak on the coil that suggest Freon leakage. He pointed it to me his suspicion and confirmed with water/soap bubble test. I was impressed that he noticed it immediately compared to other companies. our technician Brian arrived on time and quickly began diagnosing the broken air conditioning unit.he determined that the unit had no freon and was able to identify the leak in the system. He patiently explained the problems with the unit and answered all of our questions honestly and helped us decide between repair and replacement but was not pushy in any way to convince us replace the system. He gave us the facts that we wanted and we were able to measure the risks on our own.we ended up fixing the system everything is working great. one of the highlights this experience was that they were able to schedule an appointment for us and were able to get us in on a Saturday which is the only time we could have done it. The rates were very reasonable and they didn't charges an arm and a leg for coming out on a Saturday when they're normally closed, in fact since we were in Angies List member they charged us the normal price.when our system will need replacing, I will definitely be giving them a call.

Fantastic experience! The tech was professional and polite. He climbed up into the attic on an extremely hot April day and did a thorough tune up on the unit. He also discovered the problem with the malfunctioning fan (it didn't shut off, at all, for weeks!), came down to explain the problem and went off to get a replacement somethingorother ~ thus the additional expence. That repair was made, then the young man went out to check the outside unit. After that, he did a test run on the inside unit, cleared away his things and was gone! I will most certainly use Engineered Heating and Air in the future. The service was nothing but top notch from the first email to the final follow-up communication.
Description of Work: The deal offered by Angie's List was $74 for a heating/cooling tune up. I also had an issue with a malfunctioning blower fan on the unit. I was contacted by email within hours of purchaing the service, setting up an appointment which matched my availability. No muss, no fuss. I received a call on the appointed day, letting me know the tech would be along within the hour...and he was!

Initial call was to replace evaporator coil which we knew was leaking Freon; but compressor stopped working while checking operating pressures so unit had to be vacuum cleared of Freon to replace compressor.
Description of Work: Replaced evaporator coil, dryer, compressor, and reversing valve. Flushed line with nitrogen and recharged. Checked both heating and cooling operation and pressures.

Thank you for the good review. It was unfortunate that the compressor failed at the same time, but every once and a while in service you get what I call "bad luck": That's why we comp'd the txv valve. I look at it like a team, and if our client has had some bad luck, we share in it as well to lessen the burden. Thanks again for your business! Tom

It went well. The rep. was very professional and explained everything he was doing.
Description of Work: Checked ac system and determined that Freon was low. He looked for leaks, charged the system and tested it thoroughly.
