The service call was just fine. The tech determined the issue and was able to resolve the problem at that time.

I received a call for an appointment time the next day after purchasing. The tech (Mike) was friendly and efficient. He went over all the tests with me and they were all nominal. I did need a little coolant (after 15 years of use) and he took care of it (additional charge as expected) quickly. The A/C is working better than ever and it IS hot out now. I'm very happy with their prompt and courteous service. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I needed my spring A/C tuneup done and decided the deal to do Spring and Fall was a good idea.

Install took MUCH longer than originally stated, kept telling us it would be done the next day, then the next day and so on. We were originally quoted for 3-5 days, ended up taking a little over two weeks Almost no communication on the change of the layout of the system, and very little communication period on everything else Did not clean up anything at all. Left all the debris from cutting the vent holes wood, sawdust, carpet padding, and tons of metal shavings and scraps of sheet metal, empty bags and boxes from their supplies, and trash from the workers lunches Broke several items, but only told us about one item being broken. It was a large mirror that they did not clean up. Several of the vent holes weren't cut properly, so the vent covers don't fit flush down inside them Put one wall vent cover in instead of a floor vent, told us they would send a correct one but we still have not received it They are supposed to refund us for the items broken, but that has not showed up on our bill yet

I am very sorry for the bad experience. You’re right, it did take longer than expected, however the unforeseen obstacles made it a bit more challenging than originally anticipated. We certainly will and have corrected the situation in terms of the broken items in your home, and for what it’s worth we feel horrible about that. We wish you all the best of luck in the future and if there is anything else that needs to be addressed please feel free to reach out to me directly. Sincerely Tom Robeson (Owner)

First trip he thought the line was simply clogged and flushed it with CO2. This did not fix the problem. They were VERY prompt at returning( I called the next day and they were over withing 30 minutes). I was informed that the line was not properly installed upon further inspection. The drain had a bow in it and was not flowing as it was not downhill. This was due to the people who installed it. I purchased the home with the unit 2 years old and with a sticker from "Air Control Heating and Air Conditioning" I can only assume it was them who installed this so poorly. Engineered corrected the PVC drain line(ran a new stretch of pipe). Engineered did not charge for the second visit and fixed me up good to go. I would give an A for the price except the initial charge to blow out the line (a 15 minute job) was a bit high. They stand by their work and I would use them again.
Description of Work: Drain pan was filling up with water and thereby shutting off the AC unit.

The guy that came out was very nice and took his time looking everything over. I wish I knew his name, his company should be proud to have such a nice employee. The first company I called told me it was my circuit board and it would be $500 to replace it after spending only a few minutes looking at it. This guy from Engineered told me that wasn't the problem and helped me figure out it was an electrical problem. He was very honest and didn't try to fix something needed an electrician to fix. I appreciate that.
Description of Work: My air was not working. I called them as a second opinion to come and see what the problem was after another company took just a few minutes to look at it and decide it was my circuit board which would be at least $500 to replace.

I called Engineered Heating & Air because my upstairs air conditioning unit was struggling during the day to cool my house. It was working, but not as it should. Ultimately the issue was that the door to my furnace was off, letting in too much hot air into the attic unit. The technicians checked to make sure that there weren't any other problems, and I used an Angie's List coupon. My only frustration is with the company's responsiveness. Understandably this is a busy time of year for HVAC companies. First phone call was at the beginning of the week, and a technician told me it would be Thursday before they could come out. They said someone would call Thursday morning with a more specific time when they would be at my house. When I didn't get a phone call, I called the office and the receptionist told me a technician would call me back. I waited another hour and still didn't hear anything by 1 p.m., so I called and said it was starting to get a little late for me to keep waiting at my house and I asked to reschedule for the next day. Friday morning comes and the same thing happens. I called to see when a tech would be at the house and finally got a call back saying Monday would be the earliest. At this point I was really frustrated and said I'm considering going with another company. After explaining to a manager what happened, they were able to get a technician to my house by 3 p.m. Friday and my problem was fixed.

It was excellent. They not only fixed my problem, but they saved me a ton of cash in the process. I called Engineered Heating & Cooling for a second opinion about my system. I chose them because of the high rating they had on Angie's list, and I was not disappointed. They will be my future choice for HVAC service. Another company was servicing my system on a regular basis, and they had informed me of a coolant leak somewhere in the system (which is nearly ten years old). The original service provider told me that it would take a very expensive ($700+) testing procedure to determine where the leak was, so I called Engineered Heating & Cooling for a second opinion. During the course of their $84 inspection, they used a sensor to determine that the leak was, in fact, in the indoor coil. What's more, they made me aware that I probably had a ten year warranty (something I was NOT aware of, the system having been put in by the previous owners). They were correct, and they showed me how to get the extended warranty transferred into my name. As a result, they saved me 60% of the cost of replacement. I cannot say enough good about these folks. I recommend them highly and would use them again.

Called because outside coils were frosting badly. Mike and David came on 2/20 and performed initial testing as it was determined that refrigerant level was very low in heat pump and a leak in the system was likely. They informed me that more thorough testing would be needed. They added refrigerant to allow the pump to function in a normal manner. Both Mike and David was very helpful about explaining what would be needed to allow the heat pump to function properly. An appointment was made for 2/25, at which time Tim came and did extensive testing and it was determined that the condensation coils in the air handler were leaking refrigerant. Tim was very helpful in explaining this to me and ordered new coils from the manufacturer while he was at my house. He also informed me about what I would need to pay, as the coils were on partially covered by my warrantly. Tim called on 3/2 and informed me that the condensation coil had come in and he would be coming a bit later that morning to install the unit. He came and installed the new coils, a procedure which required a bit of time, but he had made me aware of this. Tim is very professional and thorough in his work and I was extremely pleased with the whole experience. I have used this company before for maintenance of my pump and have always had a good experience with them.

Called me on March 2 and advised that he would be coming to install new condensation coils in air handler. He came and installed new coils.

Technician was courteous but was a new employee to the company and did not appear to be as knowledgeable and confident as former employees of this company. Diagnostic was quick but service technician was working harder to pressure me into a sale rather than troubleshoot the issue in it's entirety. We discussed the sales contact more than we talked about the issue(s). I realize that some technicians do work off commission and I can appreciate that but when it's very clear that making a sale dominates the conversation rather than the issues at hand, I tend to walk away. Did not have this experience with this company in the past. The former tech educated me on my HVAC system while efficiently performing the necessary diagnostics and maintenance. I still think this is a good company, their customer support over the phone was as always very professional - just did not like the technician's approach. I wish them the best.

Thank you for your feedback! We are definitely not a perfect company and always want to deliver great results! I am so sorry for the mediocre experience you had with our company! The weird thing is that neither our service techs, nor our installers are on commission - so I'm not sure what his motivation unless in his mind he thought it needed replacement. The words “pressure me into a sale” is the first I’ve ever heard connected to our company, and goes against everything little thing we are about! From the top down, our company is prides ourselves on no pressure so I apologize for letting you down. Please ask other clients, look at our other reviews, etc. It is just not a part of our company! Years ago in my prior career, I was a territory manager for a hvac manufacturer. While in that position, I got to work with many of the local contractors in town. Most service techs were not on commission, but the companies that did put their service tech's on commission sold a lot of replacement hvac equipment, and in some cases appeared to take advantage of some clients. I think service tech commission does not align with having our client’s best interest in mind, so that is why we don’t do it. Service tech’s are there to fix stuff, and not to sell stuff! Our company is a direct reflection of me, and I never want to be accused of selling something that was not needed. Are we human –yes, do we make mistakes – yes, but we always strive to do what is right for our clients! We constantly preach to our associates that we need to have the client's best interest in mind! If we worry about that first and foremost, then everything else seems to work out great! Thanks again for the feedback! In light of this, I will pull that service ticket from last June, and go over it with that service tech and ask what he saw, and how it was perceived from our client’s point of view. Also, thanks for the kind words of our past history with our company! We do strive to be professional and responsive! Take care! Regards, Tom

Engineered Heating and Air was one of the most professional companies I've worked with. They worked hard to help us make furnace replacement decisions. The building itself is quite old with all of the deficiencies that come with that. While it was impossible to know exactly what was going to GO wrong during the installation, we all knew SOMETHING would rear its ugly head. The installer and his assistant were courteous, knowledgeable and prompt. They were two hard working guys who didn't mind what had to be done to make a difficult installation. When the predictable problems came up, they suggested smart solutions and yet willingly discussed alternatives. At the end of the day, the workplace was broom clean, despite my assurances they could 'just leave it.' When the job was complete, the old furnace and all its components were removed and the furnace room hadn't been that clean since the Roosevelt administration (either one). If you're looking for a trustworthy, competent HVAC contractor, you can stop your search: Engineering Heating and Air is the way to go.

It has been a while (I'm writing in Nov 2015)... but the service tech came out, checked the AC, told me the unit was needing repair or replacing... talked through the different options... It was a great, professional service call. Long story short, one of my AC units needed replacing.... so, I had estimates from three different companies....and Engineered presented the best option... so I had Engineered come out, on a later date...and replace the AC unit... The installation was done well, by two technicians.... I'd highly recommend Engineered... J

My air conditioner unit has not been cooling my home adequately since it was installed by Stivers heating and air 12 years ago. They installed a 2ton unit for a 1500 sq ft. home. I was told this was inadequate. They assured me that it was o.k. Last year, it would not cool below 90 degrees. An HVAC specialist said that it was due to a small and the fact that my air duct system was installed incorrectly and that I did not have poor ventilation. He was not able to come back out this year, so I contacted Engineered based on the recommendations from Angie's List. Big mistake! They were late. I explained to the technician the situation and what I had been told by the other specialist. He did a diagoistic and said that the Freon levels were low and charged me $75 to add Freon. He said he "didn't know nothing about duct work and ventilation systems but it looked like it could be installed wrong. He said the Freon should cool it about 10 degrees or more. He put me in contact with a sales rep who could discuss a larger unit. My home did not cool even one degree. The sales rep contacted me over a week later. He was out of town for a wedding. He said that could charge me to do some kind of test to determine what size unit I needed. He said I would probably need a 2.5 ton unit which would run about $5000. I told him also about what the other HVAC specialist had told me regarding the inadequate ventilation and duct work. He said he didn't know about that either. Thankfully I did not purchase a new unit. Upon recommendation from a co-worker I contacted another company - M&M Heat and Pump Service. I received one of the best services that I have ever received from any company, let alone and HVAC company. They DID NOT charge for the original diagnostic assessment. They checked, not only my unit, but my duct work and ventilation. They could've tried to sell me a new unit, however, because they were competent and honest, they told me a new unit would not make that much of difference because the duct work and ventilation systems were not adequate. For just over $100 for a few panels and a service call, they reworked some of my duct work and my house is now cooling in the 75 degree range without my air conditioner staying on continuously. They also gave advice on improving ventilation and told me who to contact for to assist with better ventilation, which would help more. And yes, although a new air conditioner would improve the efficiency and effectiveness of my HVAC and save money in the long run, it wasn't entirely necessary, and it wouldn't not have solved the problem. Shortly the fan went out in my air conditioner unit and they replaced it for a very low fee and even took the time to dig it out of the dirt and clean it off so that it would operate more effectively. They were also on time and efficient! It is so rare to find such competent, honest contractors these days. I would hope that everyone could hear about M&M Heat and Pump Service! Also, I contacted Engineered after I spoke with M&M but before they completed the service for me to tell them about the discrepancy between what they had told me and what M&M had told me. The person that answered the phone said that she would relay the information to the owner. I never heard back from them.
Description of Work: UPDATE: Following my feedback below, the owner gave me a personal phone call. He asked questions to understand the situation. Rather than make excuses, he apologized and refunded my money. I was so impressed with his integrity and professionalism and quick response that I would consider using Engineered in the future. They provided diagnostic services for my air conditioner. The air conditioner was not cooling my home. They added Freon. I believe they provided a poor diagnosis of the situation, which resulted in wasted fees and time.

Thank you [Member name removed] for your feedback, both good and bad. I know we are not a perfect company, but our heart is in the right place, and we truly wish to deliver the best quality service in Central Kentucky. When I became aware of the situation, I agree that we could have done a better job on the front end diagnosis, and it made perfect sense to give you your money back. So much of service is good communication, and I think in the heat of the summer we had a breakdown in getting the right information to the right people. The first company we called was here 5 minutes, tested nothing, and told us that we needed repairs ($2,000+) or a new unit ($6,000+). When Tim from Engineered arrived, he removed the cover, tested the components and replaced the capacitor for around $200. Tim was polite, professional and didn't give up until our system was working. I highly recommend Tim and Engineered and won't call anyone else for HVAC problems or replacement.

Dale was very thorough. He found a problem with the draining of the system in the attic. There are 2 drip pans...one in the unit and one outside for overflow. The unit was not draining properly and the water was overflowing into the second pan. There is not a safety switch in the unit to prevent this or to say "hey people! wake up! there is a problem!". Because I am a renter, I had him fix the draining issue only. I will discuss safety switches with the landlord soon. Dale checked the outside unit and did not find any problems. After he fixed the drain in the attic, the water was flowing like a sieve to the outside of the house as it should. Dale took the time to explain things to me. He was very knowledgeable, confident and capable. I felt like I had family doing the work. I would definitely recommend and/or use Engineered Heating and Air again. And I would request Dale!
Description of Work: Dale, the technician, gave the HVAC system a thorough check up.

After an initial misunderstanding (See my Review of January13, 2015), I tried Engineered Heating and Air (EHA) again. Tom Robeson (owner) and Mike Egan (Sales Manager) came to the house to look at the prospect of installing air conditioning. The house is slightly over 6,000 square feet, two stories with crawl space and attic, originally built in 1850, added on to in 1890 and 1926. It is solid brick construction with most of the walls 3-bricks thick (approximately 13-14 inches). There is a basement under part of the 1890 addition that houses the boiler for the radiators and provides access to the crawl space. The project was a challenge from the beginning, and EHA was the fourth company that we contacted. The first was local in Paris and our first choice, but they dithered for more than two years before we began to look elsewhere. The second did a drive-by and never came back. The third looked at the house, took drawings, and never came back or called. When we went back to EHA, they were all over the project and did some creative thinking to accommodate us and provide a complete, turn-key system. EHA came to the house six times and made five proposals before we came to agreement on how to proceed. The number of proposals does not reflect EHA's lack of expertise or commitment. It was a function of our having definite demands and desires (e.g. we refused to have mini-splits or exposed duct work) plus the complexity and difficulty of the project. We looked at several ways to meet our demands. Each of them would have worked, but only when we got to the fifth one were we confident that we had settled on the very best approach to air conditioning this old house. The point here is that EHA persevered to find the right solution instead of "throwing in the towel" when it became complicated. Work started on March 19 and was completed on May 11. What we ended up with were four systems: two high-velocity units that served the upstairs, and two conventional units to serve the downstairs. Space limitations in the attic and the crawl space produced challenges at every step of the way, but EHA met the challenges and solved the problems. The crawl space needed extensive excavation to accommodate the air handlers and duct work for the downstairs systems. The upstairs systems required cutting more than 60 holes for supply plus four 14"x20" openings for return air grills in plaster ceilings without damaging the plaster, and NONE of the plaster was damaged by EHA's work! We have four thermostats for the four systems, all of which are controlled with a single remote controller. We can operate any combination of the four systems from a single point. And it all works. We cannot recommend EHA too strongly. At every step of the way they were professional and competent, neat and tidy. They checked with us for concurrence throughout the project before they proceeded. The nature of our needs and the demands of the house clearly were overwhelming to the other three companies we contacted, but EHA accepted the challenges and conquered the difficulties. They were creative and thought outside the box to provide an excellent system for this house. If we were ever to do this again, Engineered Heating and Air would be our first choice.

Thank you for the "re-review". I'm glad we could end up doing your work and want to thank you for all of your hospitality! Your project was by far the most physically and perhaps most mentally challenging project in our company history! It was a good test for our staff and I couldn't be more pleased on how our install staff rose to the occasion! From hauling out dirt on snow sleds tied to ropes, to core drilling holes into old plaster, I was very pleased with the end result! I never had imagined when I responded to your initial review that we would end up doing your work, but I'm glad it worked out this way. You all were a pleasure to work with! Thanks for your business! Regards, Tom

Dale was a pleasure to work with. He checked and confirmed an issue with my heat pump being slightly low on coolant. Did a check of air flow, pressure, and coolant levels before, during, and after charging.
Description of Work: Great service from Dale-- on a Saturday morning! Called on Friday afternoon- late- and Dale was at my home by 7:00 am Saturday. Was courteous, knowledgable, helpful, and able to fix my problem.

Engineered did a great job replacing our 25-year old heat pumps. We asked for options and they quoted us heat pump and geothermal systems. We decided on geothermal and the staff walked us through system and installation decisions. Very competitive pricing compared with other geothermal contractors and the crew did a great job. They overcame challenges like limited attic access and a difficult tie-in to the basement with minimal changes to the house or ductwork. Mike, Dave, and the crew definitely went the extra mile.
