Description of Work: really high! told me I wasn't really worth their time to give me a written estimate. that my project was not big enough or simple. but if I gave their name out, they'd give me referral money! as if. I wanted an estimate for a glass greenhouse. Which they are supposedly proficient in! They even told me who else I could call, trying to be nice, maybe.

+ -1 more.Building inspector comes out next week and they Fail Final inspection. Not much insulation under room for plumbing, and siding not inspected yet.. later JP sent building inspector picture showing all pipes insulated. Building inspector comes out again 2nd time -Failed again still all of pipes not insulated and not enough nails used in areas on boards under vinyl siding. Finally last of March a job that was to have been finished before Christmas passes inspection.
Description of Work: .I agreed to have Distinctive Design build a bedroom onto my daughter's house in Florence, Ky. I live in Lexington.The salesman drew up blueprints on plain paper. I said I could not read blueprints. He wrote on it the bathroom had a double bowl vanity and a linen closet[ which contained the water heater.] & shower. Afterwards he added numbers to the windows when I questioned the size and I could not read it. I was assured they would have a construction supervisor on site. I never saw one and 4 months later was told by the owner they did not have one. Construction was started Oct.without a building permit and without speaking to my daughter. Workers just showed up and knocked out her bathroom window and put a board over it. The mess including a now broken marble window sill was left in her tub. Once the floor was down I told J Penn it was not level with the house. He said he would fix it. I told him again 3 more seperate times and he always said he would fix it. HE NEVER DID. I drove up one week and found them putting a 25yr tab roof on room. I had paid for a dimensional life time roof. More calls and text and emails. After a week J P returned my call said they couldn't use dimensional shingles since my daughters roof didn't have them it would not match. I said they are black just put up black ones- she's replacing her roof.-then he said it would leak. I found that was wrong and had to seek advice of attorney to get roof replaced. New roof had torn shingles, nails showing, cap crooked, water under shingles 2 days post rain.JP couldn't get on roof he didn't have a ladder . Bathroom is too small has no closet only room for one lavatory. I had to give up one side of my closet for cubby hole and water heater, fuse box and water& elec lines. I told Jon he needed to extend wall to allow for more room in bath he said that was not an option. Salesman told me they would run power lines through attic. Never informed different and daughter came home from work to find 4 holes cut into the ceiling of her family room. Eventually they were repaired. Took Distinctive Design almost 2 months to replace the small deck at back door after tearing it down so daughter had to use front door and walk in snow across front and side of house carrying her baby to get to her car to go to work. Salesman showed up wanting final payment- he did not tell me final inspection had NOT been done.He said we are finished. I said give me $1000 credit to fix roof. J P yelled at me over the tel later and said I cheated him out of a thousand dollars so he wasn't going to do punch out list. Well he did do them . keep reading failed inspection.

+ -1 morePROS: started right away,,concrete ,,framing,,siding,,roofing,,electrical,, was done fine and quickly CONS: drywall work and finish carpentry work was done poorly,,said would provide a dumpster for trash and tear down,,did not and trash blew over yard and did not pick up,,very pushy to get final payment before completely finished,,if had been personal house instead of small rental house would probably not accepted and paid for what was supposed to be finished ready to paint and carpet CONCLUSION: not the worst i have dealt with but certainly not the best when it comes to construction work,,talked a better game than delivered,and was pushy when getting contract signed,,usually would have not signed but was in a hurry and they could start right away,,which they did,,but i think if i have to get another room addition i will try someone else, of course you never know whern hiring contractors if they will be better or worse than the last one you were dissapointed with.

The salesman explained the process to us before we got started and we were notified throughout the building process regarding the workers schedules. Any questions we had about the project were answered in a timely manner. The new room looks like it came with the house! The roof and siding matches great and the electrician and drywall finishers did a wonderful job on the interior. The electrician even installed a fan we provided to put in the addition. As this project moved along we had questions & issues regarding the construction. Every issue was addressed and the job was completed to our satisfaction. All materials and additional debris were cleaned up by the company before the job was considered complete. We plan on using this company again to drywall and finish our basement!

+ -1 moreI was seeking a quote for vinyl siding, soffit, and aluminum facia and window trim. The residence that needed the work is located in Lexington, KY. I made an appointment weeks in advance with arrangements to meet the 'estimator' at a specific time. I live about 3 1/2 hours (7 hours round trip) from the location we were to meet. i gave Distinctive Design the opportunity to visit the residence to collect the necessary information prior to our meeting if they so desired. They did not. I spoke to the company the day before the scheduled meeting to confirm our appointment. It was suggested to me that the party would rather meet me an hour earlier than our previoulsy scheduled time. This was ok with me. I agreed. Late morning of the day of the appointment, I recieved a call from the company informing me that the appointment would be cancelled due to 'scheduling problems' or their lack of interest I suspect. Though I was very disappointend, I again offered to allow them to give me a quote but I would not be able to meet with them in person. They declined, indicating that I had to meet with them. Considering I had already made one seven hour trip based upon an appointment made weeks in advance, I declined to commit to another seven hour drive. This is one of several properties I have in the area. They all just so happen to need vinyl siding and windows. I eventually found a quality constractor via Angies List. I originally got the name of Distinctive Design from the Service Magic network. They say they are better than Angies List. Not!ies
