Chris was great, we thought we would have to spend more to make the needed repairs but he came up with an alternate solution and it turned out looking better than we thought possible!

Chris is a laid-back, genial guy. Window replacement was fine; Chris knows what he's doing there. Siding work, though, was a different story. Chris and I agreed at the end of June that he would complete the siding job in about 25 days at $400 per day. We would settle up once a week. Here we are in the middle of September-- ten weeks later (Chris would take off days, sometimes a couple weeks, at a time because of other jobs and hot weather)-- and the job is not half finished. Even worse, each week the discrepancy between the work performed and the amount billed grew larger. Finally, I questioned Chris on a bill that seemed completely out of whack. We met and talked it over, and Chris appeared to be okay with what we worked out. He took the check for the amount we agreed upon, cashed it immediately, and returned to my house the next day to tell me that he'd quit. He said that "my rate is my rate" and that the amount of work accomplished each day is not terribly relevant. I was to pay him his daily rate even if he accomplished very little. I suggested that we look at the remaining work and agree upon a price per piece. He packed up his ladders and left in a self-righteous huff-- the epitome of unprofessionalism. I'm left with half-a-house with no siding on it at all.

I will hire him again, he is a real craftsman. He showed up on time and ready to work. Thanks Chris for doing a great job.
Description of Work: Chris finished the install on 2 exterior doors and did a great job. After I bought an expensive double door with sidelight, my first installer (not Chris) drilled a hole for a lock in the wrong place and then never came back. I guess he was embarrased. The door wasn't properly sealed or caulked and needed support for the threshold and the casing installed. Chris did all of this and did very well. I was amazed at the patience that he had cutting a scribed support for the threshold. He listened patiently and made my concerns his concerns. He did everything I asked him to. The second door was my personal nightmare. I'm not an experienced carpenter (I have successfully installed two doors), but I bought a door at Lowes and tried seven times to install the door and just couldn't do it. The brick opening tilted one way and the rough opening tilted the other. The original door was not a pre-hung door but custom built. My dog had chewed and clawed through it. Chris wresled with it for a couple hours and finally had it in plumb and level and working just fine.

Description of Work: Refinished stairs and repaint banister. Agreed upon work not done, only refinished the landings and not the risers. The paint on the banister began to chip immediately. One of the spindles was broken and was asked to be repaired and wasn't. Had him come back over to inspect work since we were out of town when it was done and he agreed the things were not correct and offered to fix for more money!

guess he just faked me out. really just talked about doing project, and never intended to do anything. said he was busy w/something really big at moment and would get back to me w/date and details. nope, never did. I didn't want to hear something else would be taking precedence over what I wanted done. men, they don't think. so what? you don 't actually say it, just let the person know if or not you can do job, and when. thank god I didn't pay him anything or give him any details about myself! don' t use this guy!! he looked like Nick Nolte on his mug shot when he was approaching my door! should have known. I now have a contractor who quoted job at 1/2 cost!
Description of Work: he came to give a free estimate, hemmed/hawed about doing the project. gave cost, then said he'd get back to us. never did. called 2x, never got back to me. his dress/demeanor should have told me he wasn't really serious about my project at all.

I called Chris to get an estimate to fix a door that had been installed poorly. Chris was great! He came out on a Saturday morning, looked at the job to be done and gave me a fair estimate. He was very professional and friendly. I was unable to use his services this time, but I will definitely call him next time I need a carpenter.

Chris started out as someone who did great carpentry work but has quickly evolved into a friend. When I need something done around my house, he is the person I call. He includes me in every stage of planning, is honest, dependable and a pleasure to be around. I trust Chris to always tell me what can be done in whatever situation I present him and to do what he says he'll do. Simply put, I cannot recommend Chris enough for remodels, repairs, or general home improvement project. He is the best!!

The workmanship and craftsmanship is excellent. Unfortunately, not once, but twice we had issues with the quality of the doors themselves and we had to deal with Home Depot and the manufacturer of the doors (Masonite). Chris actually had to make more than one visit to complete the installation, but now that it's complete, the doors are gorgeous and have immediately added value to our home.

Chris was not the cheapest bid I recieved, but I am so thankful that I went with him. He was professional, honest, and his craftsmanship was impeccable and the details he added made it better than what I even asked for. I would highly recommend Chris to anyone. The person painting them took a little longer then necessary but that wasn't Chris's fault.
Description of Work: As a single woman I rely heavily on Angie's list to find honest, hard working, contractors who will listen to me and do what they say they'll do. Chris came and met with me twice to discuss what I was looking for and how it would look. He built built-in bookshelves with a window seat that completely exceeded my expectations yet looked like they had always been there. I live in an historic house which can be tricky but Chris's work was outstanding.

Chris' work is always top notch. He shows up when scheduled and works quickly and efficiently. The ceiling job took a day, and Chris cleaned up after himself and was cheerful and unobtrusive. He's a very careful worker. The door was one I bout on craigslist and was probably more difficult to install than a new one, and it was to be put on an old farmhouse with a probably not square opening. Again, great job with no complaints from him. Job done efficiently and well. He even braved the neighbors' dog with pups. It's really hard to find someone who cares about the quality of his work like Chris does. He's a terrific problem solver too.
Description of Work: I needed a ceiling installed for a porch/mudroom. Pretty straightforward job... I had materials and Chris did a great job installing. I also needed a new storm door on a rental house and wanted it done in a specific time frame on a weekend. He did a great job.

Very well. Please see and quot;services performedand quot; section above.
Description of Work: I admit that I didn't actually have work done with Christian but I wanted to jump on here and make a comment. I am from out of town but we have a barn in KY we need torn down. I saw that he used reclaimed wood and hoped he could direct me or wondered if he would be interested in the wood and helping to do the teardown. While that's not what he does, he spent a good deal of time on the phone with me giving me the names (and numbers!) of the area companies and people that do that work. So, knowing I wouldn't be able to do business with him, he took the time to give excellent customer service anyway! If I did need a carpenter, he would be the first guy I'd call based on my phone experience today.

Beautifully from start to finish.
Description of Work: We have an historic home with a beautiful s taircase extending from the front hall to the second floor. Chris rebuilt the whole staircase which was in disrepair(spindles falling out, rickety, and an eyesore). Only a excellent craftsman could have overcome the mechanical difficulties inherent in the staircase itself. Chris did a lot of troubleshooting before he anchored the too short spindles into place. A year later, it is still solid and beautiful. Kudos to Chris. An A+ job and very reasonable in price.

Chris charges a reasonable daily rate for labor plus the materials used. He was a little late due to long lines at Lowes, picking up materials. Once here, he went right to work and completed all the repairs. The trim looks great! His price to do these repairs was less than half what another carpenter was going to charge for the same work. We will definitely call him again for carpentry repairs.

I have a rental house and one of the kids broke a window. The window was an old wood-framed sash and needed wood restoration as well as the glass replaced. Chris removed the window frame, replaced the glass, glazed it, repaired the wood where needed, and painted the sash, and replaced it in the house. I had him do a couple others while he was at it - ones that weren't broken but needed sash repair. He does very careful work and even cleaned up after himself. The door was a warranty replacement storm door, but I didn't know they would give me only a door that needed ALL the hardware transferred from the old door. So he had to take the knob, lock, hinges and frame from the old door, transfer to the new, and make it all work. Job took much longer than I expected, but he did it in a quarter of the time it would have taken me to do it. OK -- I would have thrown up my hands. He even adjusted the closing thingies perfectly so the door wouldn't stay open too long and let the cats in. Well worth the money invested. :-))
Description of Work: Restoration of several old wood window sashes and a door replacement on two old farmhouses. Chris had worked for me before, and is always prompt, professional and his work is excellent. I have recently seen some of his custom furniture and have plans for a new kitchen cabinet/counter for him to design and construct for me. Chris is very easy to work with and finishes jobs promptly. He did not require final payment until the job was done to my satisfaction.

Chris responded the next day to my e-mail inquiry. He arrived on time and was very professional. He had no problem collaborating with my painter throughout the project. He assured me that this job was not out of his scope and followed through without issues. Chris did an accurate and fair assessment of the work that needed to be done and gave me an estimate on the first day. His final bill was right in line with that original estimate. There were no surprises or unexpected issues. He was very professional and did exactly what he said he would do. We plan to use him again in the future for a porch remodeling job. I would not hesitate to recommend him for any type of carpentry work.
Description of Work: Chris replaced a complicated railing on two sets of outside porch stairs that had deteriorated over time due to water damage. He took over a job that had proved to be too difficult for another carpenter. The railing spindles required a fairly complicated double angle to fit the support and the slope of the hand rail. The original railing was done with flat cut, single angle spindles that allowed water to drain incorrectly and caused the support posts to deteriorate. Chris replaced the spindles with the correctly cut double angles, the support posts, and hand rails. He also replaced some additional trim below our windows and repaired the bases of several porch posts. He also repaired a storm door that wouldn't close properly without additional charge.

I have an older farmhouse and had been contemplating replacing the windows... some were falling apart, and I thought, beyond repair. Chris was able to repair and restore the existing windows to look like new, did it in a timely manner, and charged me less than new replacement windows would have cost. The best thing, though, is that the house still retains its original "old house" charm and architectural detail.... and looks much better than it used to!
