Honest and professional company! I made an appointment with Barnhill Chimney to clean and inspect my infrequently used fireplace and chimney and to give me a ballpark quote for replacing the chimney cap. Barnhill's representative, James Tabor, arrived early (he called first), did a quick visual inspection of the fireplace, and, to my surprise, informed me that it was in good shape and didn't actually need cleaning after all. I opted not to go forward with the video inspection at that point, but James still stayed to chat for a few minutes to give me some general information about the costs and procedure for replacing my chimney cap if we choose to do that. He was very friendly and professional during the visit and I was impressed that he was honest about my not needing the service I'd hired them to do, especially since I wouldn't have known the difference. Barnhill definitely made a good impression on me and I would be happy to hire them again or recommend them to others. Thanks, James!

Scheduling and responsiveness with Barnhill was a breeze. They called ahead on the business day before, and the Monday we met, they were weather aware and we were able to flex around the weather, without me ever feeling pressured to "make this work." It was a very low-stress experience. I was given a good explanation of the work involved, the need/reasons for the work, and a time frame. I was also provided with two different options for repair: a rebuild with stucco for 5500 or a rebuild with brick for 8500, with the stucco being the suggested route. The pros and cons of each were laid out well. I ultimately went with another provider (due to a large multi-job discount for an unchimney-related service), but I would highly suggest the company to anyone looking for this type of service.

In early December schedule an inspection for January 13 and ask to see some fireplace inserts that fit our very small fireplace. We were told it would be a day or two and then we'd see an email. After calling multiple times without getting assistance from the person we spoke to or another member of the team we finally gave up and canceled the inspection on January 8. In the end we did not want to pay for an inspection if there was nothing they offered that fit our fireplace or that we liked. They seemed like nice people, but very disorganized which ended up costing them our business.

The only problem was there was a slight delay because our order was misplaced. However, they did a very good job.

I called Barnhill because of the outstanding customer reviews and Angie's List "Super Service Award." And let's face it. If someone's going to be cleaning and inspecting my chimney I want someone reputable. I am not calling into question Barnhill's quality of work. They may do fabulous job if they ever get here! Two appointments scheduled. First appointment on September 9, 8a.m. I received a call 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment. "We're late getting started this morning. We're going to be 45 minutes late." I had other appointments to get to - so I said I'd reschedule. The gentlemen said not a problem and he'd have someone call me to reschedule. I never received a call. Several days later I called them and rescheduled for Sept 19 at 8a.m. Second appointment. received a call 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment. "Our van is in the shop and we just now picked it up but we'll be right there. We will probably be 30 minutes late." I had another appointment later that morning but they assured me that wouldn't be a problem. An hour later I received another call. "We've run into a lot of traffic looks like it will probably be best to reschedule." Yes I live 40+ minutes from their place of business. Yes there is A LOT of construction on I-64 right now and morning traffic all around Lexington is an absolute nightmare. But all of that should be taken into account when scheduling early morning appointments. I will give the guys scheduled to do the work credit for calling and keeping me apprised of the situation. Those gentlemen were polite and apologetic. That is important and very much appreciated. So kudos Barnhill for your polite and considerate employees. I called the office and told them about my experience and dissatisfaction. I'll be interested to see if I get a call back from them this time. If not - I certainly won't reschedule the appointment. If I do receive a call and decide to reschedule - you can bet I won't schedule an early morning appointment.

I had asked them to come to clean the chimney following the successful eviction of a family of raccoons by a wildlife specialist, and to install chimney caps that we had previously purchased in order to keep out future visitors (and rain). They came, took pictures inside the chimney, and told me there was nothing for them to clean because there hadn't been any fires in the fireplace. They did find and remove one seriously foul-smelling paper towel, but found no excrement; evidently that had all fallen down past the damper into the fireplace already, and I had already cleaned it up. They installed the one chimney cap that would fit; discussed the options regarding custom-made caps, described the chimney as within normal limits of deterioration from water but recommended considering repairs sometime within the next few years--no pressure. I appreciated that they charged only for the installation of the single chimney cap after trying to install both, and not for the chimney cleaning (sweeping) when they determined it was not necessary. The only thing I wish had gone better is that they would have had some sort of magical cleaning process to remove the stench of raccoon urine from the chimney, but at least they had a suggestion about that: a canister of odor-eating citrus gel, available at Home Depot. (THAT is not magic either! It seems to be helping--maddeningly gradually, however.)

The employees came and measured the fireplace, delivered and installed it. They were prompt, professional and the doors fit perfectly. There was a delay with the order, but the owner (Brian) resolved the issue quickly when he was made aware of it. It appears that this was a very unusual incident. We love the doors.

While we had some difficulties with our communication and response time at first, Barnhill Chimney went well beyond our expectations in correcting the errors. We had a unique 40-year-old ceramic wood-burning stove which we brought from a deceased parents house in December. For many reasons, including the unusual nature of the job and a busy season, our estimate got lost.and we asked for a refund on our original appraisal. Recognizing the lack of responsiveness from his company, Brian Barnhill was in immediate contact with us, trying to troubleshoot what had happened as well as remedy the situation. When we identified the origin and make of the stove, he went out of his way to contact other stove installers around the country to ensure this stove could be installed indoors. He actually procured an installation guide so that his company could safely and efficiently install the stove. He not only sent a team of highly qualified employees to finish the job promptly, but, he covered all costs due to the original delays in installation. We could not be happier with how it turned out, and would not hesitate to use them again in the future. The attention to detail and desire to correct errors seem consistent with other reviews and we are glad to have this family relic installed and ready to use. Great company!!!

I read up on the waterproofing material and decided to go with Barnhill's product. I was in dire need of having this leak solved and due to this harsh winter it was going to be several weeks before the product could be applied. Barnhill didn't forget me and watched the weather and applied on the first clear day with no chance of rain in the forecast. I then notified the company that I wanted to have more brick work done if they thought it was needed. The OWNER inspected the property and made recommendations but felt that it was unnecessary at the time. This company is professional and reliable and will recommend to everyone.

Swept/cleaned the chimney. Inspected and then left "recommendations". These recommendations were costly and almost predictable based on conversations with others that have had sweeps/inspections. Seems it is an industry standard to come and recommend high priced services with a dash of "safety" precautions on why the high cost services are needed. The cleaning was done neatly. Staff was polite.

My husband could have done what they did for about $100 max. Will go elsewhere next time.

Arrived on time and did a very thorough job. Would use again.

Great company - very good employees - excellent product

The estimator called 10 minutes before our scheduled appointment to say he was running late. So, I could not meet him since I had to return to my office. The estimator did give me a general estimate on the phone. He did follow up with a written price estimate including photographs of my chimney chase and cap. No break out was provided for material and labor. The price seemed very high for the chase cover $1,050 dollars which was 3 times what I can by the equivalent stainless steel custom made chase cover for $350 dollars. So, is it reasonable to pay $700 labor ? I don't know since they did not itemize the work.

Had a leak coming from existing 17 year old chimney cap and called Barnhill to come out and inspect and provide estimate. While they were there I asked them to have someone provide estimate to replace fireplace to a newer more efficient direct vent model. They were very professional and courteous. They provided all estimates and I decided to have the chimney cap replaced as well as the new fireplace installed. They came out when they said they would and finished ahead of schedule. They were very detailed in the information they provided and answered all questions. I was able to go to their showroom to see a working display of what they were installing. Would definitely use them again.

Came and installed gas logs. Apt was at 2:00 and came at 3:00 however they did call and notified us they were delayed and would be there at 3:00 which I understand. Some jobs just take longer than anticipated. Very professional! did an outstanding job and left the area very clean. I would definitely recommend them! They explained fully how the gas logs worked and showed how to operate.

Barnhill has been cleaning my two chimneys for about 10 years. I visited their show room and selected a set of gas fire logs. The owner, Brion, and his staff (Blake and Vanessa) were cordial, professional and patient with me as I mulled over my choices. When time for the installation came, they were on time, worked diligently, and always cleaned up after themselves. They knew exactly what they were doing, and did it exceptionally well. I was very confident in their ability and experience, and have only heard good things about their work from other people. As a bonus, the men were friendly and had a good sense of humor. When there were some unexpected holdups because of the gas company's work, they took it in stride. If they were inconvenienced, they never let it show. We are thrilled with the company and with the results. We would not hesitate to highly recommend them to anyone who is having work done on their chimney who is considering installing gas fire logs.

This was our first contact with Barnhill. The whole process worked extremely well. They responded quickly with our request for a quote and we were able to schedule the job soon afterwards. Once the technician arrived, there was a little confusion about how the new ductwork would actually be installed vs. what had been explained to me over the phone. He immediately apologized, took responsibility for the confusion and said that the quote would remain the same. The job was finished quickly and the venting has worked great. The job was a little pricey, but I would still recommend Barnhill without any hesitation.

The employees were here very professional and took their job very seriously. I was very glad I requested this service as my fireplace will need work done before a fire or any kind of gas logs could be installed....I would definitely recommend this company for anyone who needs this type of work.

Brian called us immediately after we first called him with our inquiry. He was able to get to us to clean the ducts in approx. 1 and 1/2 weeks. Brian and his crew are some of the most professional people I have dealt with in Lexington, Ky. They showed up promptly and all of the crew introduced themselves. They quickly went to work and continued to work for the next 2 1/2 days. Brian was there much of the time but his crew can definitely be trusted to continue to work in a workmanlike manner. The crew cleaned and sanitized all of the ducts and cleaned all of the chimneys. They cleaned out all of the entire crawl space including a dead animal. Brian also had untra violet lights installed in the furnaces. They did more than had initially been asked of them and were extremely helpful. Before they left, they made sure everything was cleaned up where they had been, even though for the work they were performing they did not make a mess.Brian pointed out things which he thought needed our attention and is one of the most hard working, affable people we have dealt with.

Spring 2010 and 2011 they have told me that the chimney does not need to be cleaned and have charged me only the inspection fee. I call that i ntegrity! Any time I call or have dealt with Barnhill they are polite and answer any questions. Very professional in a personable way.

They brought a lot of equipment inside. Removed the insert and cleaned from inside the house. Clean up was good. Submitted proposals for installing a stainless steel liner in my flue ($3750!) and for a flue cap ($1279-$1829). Good service and professionalism overall but at a price. I might have them put the cap on but am going to get some other bids
