In Apr 2013, the owner of NHD Contracting installed ceramic tiling in my a duplex. Within a year, many were cracking. In early 2014, he personally evaluated the cracking and agreed to replace them without acknowledging culpability but asked to wait through the following winter to see if additional tiles cracked before he replaced them. Several more did crack. He was contacted about this again in June 2015. In mid August, he again reviewed the cracking and agreed to replace the tiling starting the following weekend. He failed to show that weekend citing a family emergency. When finally reached, we rescheduled for the next weekend. Again, he failed to show and was not reachable. Later the following week when reached, without apologizing for yet another no show, he promised to be out the following weekend to complete the repairs. Again, he did not show. From then on, I was never able to reach him by phone or to get a return call. I then contacted the Tile Shop, the store selling the tiles, that identified him as a recommended contractor. They sent the store manager to the home to determine the root cause of the cracking. The manager, thought it was possibly due to a lack of thinset that was applied before the lying of the tile. However, due to the fact that the store had previously dropped him as a recommended contractor because of other complaints, they really had no recourse over him at that point. He was reached by a new Tile Shop manager several weeks later and agreed to them to replace the tiles if a lack of thinset was involved. However, the new Tile Shop manager said that destructive removal of tiles in the house would be required to determine a root cause (although the previous manager didn't find that necessary). This solution was unacceptable because NHD Contracting has proven to be unreliable up to this point and the Tile Shop had no recourse or leverage over him. No further attempt at mediation with NHD Contracting was made. A complaint was also filed with the BBB that he did not respond to.
