Jim arrived at my home; we discussed the work to be done and he wrote me up a quote. The next day he arrived to tear out my second floor bath tub/shower area. There was a small mishap when a faucet blew, but Jim quickly got that under control. Coordinating his work with the plumber, Jim was able to enclose the tub/shower walls with dura-rock (which he also waterproofed with a painted on sealer) and then he began retiling on the 4th day. Jim picked up the tile and grout from the supplier; he set up his water saw outside, and got right to work. Jim took his time to plan out exactly how the tiles would go in so that all would be in symmetry and be positioned perfectly on the wall. I had him build in a recessed shelf for shampoo bottles, etc. Jim worked the design to incorporate this niche. Jim is an artist and a master craftsman when it comes to tile work and so neat you would never know he had been there except for the work he had performed. After cleaning up inside, he hosed everything down outside, so that no mess was ever left behind. This part of the project took about 9 days to complete. Jim then began work in the Master Bath on August 3. He did the tear out of the tile in the shower (3' X 4' shower and 4' X 4.5' additional flooring in the shower room). He ripped up the carpeting in the main area of the bathroom (11' X 13' area). The wood flooring in the shower and additional floor space was very water damaged and rotten, so Jim tore that out and rebuilt the floor. The plumbers came next to rough in the shower and drain, and then Jim was ready to build the shower pan for the floor. He layed the water proofing materials (liner and painted on a waterproof sealer) over the shower pan/floor and curbing. He was very thorough to ensure that there would never be a leakage problem again; finishing off the whole area with an additional coat of hydra-ban. The walls were built with dura-rock and water proofed to the ceiling. Jim went to the supplier and picked up the tile and necessary materials to install the shower and flooring...he had to then carry all the heavy tile boxes up to the second floor by himself. Jim did a great job designing the shower area, working around all the plumbing, and building another recessed shelf as well as a seat. Work was delayed a few times due to heavy rain (hard to set up the saw in a downpour). When the shower was finished, Jim began to lay out the floor tile throughout the shower area, the main bath area, and a small closet area. He undercut all the doorways so the tile would fit perfectly under them. Jim 's design included clipping the corners of the 20 X 20 inch tiles and inserting 6 inch squares of marble. Jim took his time to measure and remeasure before he cut the tiles. The finished product is beautiful. Jim came back to clean the tile and he caulked where needed. Work on the tile floor was also interrupted to accommodate countertop installation and roman tub skirting installation. This project took 3 weeks to complete. It was a real pleasure to work with Jim. He is very professional and an all around nice guy; very responsible and reliable. There were several times I had to leave him alone in the house, and I felt very comfortable doing that. Jim always made sure the house was locked when he left. I can't say enough good things about Jim Carson. He is a real gem and I would hire him again in a heart beat.
Description of Work: Tear out and retile tub/shower area in second bath, and tear out shower area, tile floor and carpet, then retile shower area and floor in the master bath.
