Helton Roofing

Got estimate, hired them, paid 1/2 up front, 1/2 when finished. Roof leaked after 1st hard rain. Took 3 calls and over a week for Mr. Helton to come out and "repair" the leak. Roof has leaked again and again. He will not return my calls or calls from Angie's List and will not honor his contract or stand by his work. NEVER EVER hire this company!!!

He was okay. The price was fine and the service was fine.

I was originally expecting a plumbing leak because I had leaking under the bathroom at my first story ceiling. Plumber came out and said it was a roof leak. My house is only 4 years old, so I was concerned. I called Helton and even before they came out, they explained some common causes of roof leaks in newer houses. They explained that flashing is often put together with caulk instead of welded together, and that they were welders by trade also, so they could do all of the work. They came out the day after I called and looked over the roof to determine the problem and give an estimate for free. At that time, they found that there were numerous nail holes in the roof and that the flashing had been put on backward. They said they could fix it for $250. I called back to have the work done within a few days, and again, they came right out the next day to do the work. On the day of, I realized they may also be the appropriate company to have repair our downspout that had come loose from the house and disconnected from itself in one spot due to the welding experience. I asked the day of if they could do that as well, and they added that on for an extra $50 without any hesitation. I wasn't home when they did the work, but I came home to find the downspout very securely fastened to the house in several spots and bolted together firmly at every joint, the way it should have been done initially by the builder! I was VERY pleased! We had a very heavy rain last night, and there is no leaking, so they appear to have done a great job with the roof as well!

It was fine. It is not leaking anymore.

Initially I thought the services performed were good. However, during routine gutter cleaning this Spring, we discovered 2 problems. First, the soldered seams in the copper liners had come apart, so that water was leaking through. Additionally, the gutters on the back upper gable are angled in the wrong direction. Instead of having the water flow toward a down spout, the water flows away from the downspout. This leads to water spilling over the edge of the gutter and onto the roof below. The roof has already sustained damage from this. I have called Mr Helton 5-6 times over the past 3 months. He set up a time to come out to look at the issues 3 times, and 3 times never showed up and never called to say he wouldn't be there. The last 2-3 phone calls, he has just not returned. His professionalism initially seemed quite good, but his the quality of his work is fair at best, and he has been abysmal at coming to repair his mistakes. Be careful with this one.

After we decided on materials, he got a check from us on a Friday afternoon for half the total. Materials were delivered on Monday morning and they started right away. They never left the roof uncovered and vulnerable -- they only tore off as much as they could replace. They cleaned up nicely at the end of each day. We decided on copper flashing and they did a nice job on that. He had a crew of about 5 guys and it was the same ones each day. All in all, this project went very well.

I was very pleased. They responded very quickly and completed most of the work in 1 day. They cleaned up well. Estimates and bill were professional and clear.

They got me a quote quickly and started faster then I expected, which was nice since I had an active leak and we were looking at a long stretch of rainy weather. The crew worked till 7:00 to finish up the job before the rain hit that night. I also wanted to keep the bricks from my old chimneys to reuse in my yard and they stacked them nicely in a pile in the corner of my yard.

Mr. Helton and his crew of about 6-8 guys got the whole job done in two days by working from 9 a.m. till dark, starting on Sat. and completing on Easter Sunday (!). They let us know when they ran into issues like the rotted boards and made recommendations for how they could fix them, then did it quickly and efficiently. Our house is especially challenging because it is a contemporary with various roof heights and angles. The dog didn't like it too much, but we felt like they were as gentle on the roof as possible while pulling off the old and putting on the new. They did an excellent cleanup job.

They did a wonderful job! From the time he gave us the estimate to the time they finished was about 48 hours! They worked hard, cleaned up as they went, were courteous, and were pleasant to work with. Thank you, Mr. Helton, for doing what seems so difficult to find these days -- you did what you said you would do when you said you would do it. It was a pleasure working with you.

We couldn't have asked for a better contractor or crew! Mr. Helton was out at our home within hours of speaking with him and had an estimate sent via email that same evening. After we obtained a couple of other estimates and did some research on Angies List, we called Mr. Helton and asked him when he could start. Mr. Helton and his wife met us at Lowes in Lexington (where we were doing some shopping) so that we could drop off the deposit check. We had mentioned Angie's List in the initial phone call, but elaborated a little further in person. Mr. Helton said he was, "happy someone was finally keeping score...b/c he roof's every home like its his own." The very next day his crew was at our home about 9, and materials delivered about 11. Mr. Helton explained that he only tears off as much roof as he can re-roof in a day with is crew of 4-6. The job took 2 full days and a morning. (Turns out we have a little more roof than first thought, and the original builder skipped flashing the valleys, but Robert would take care of that for us). The roof looks great, his crew was polite, and the site was cleaned of debris daily. After the job was complete we happily signed a check for the balance. That evening we had a severe storm and were happy to report there were no problems. His wife called a couple of days later to make sure we were satisfied and emailed us a workmanship guarantee. Amazing!

I called three roofers from Angies list. I liked all three but choose Helton because of the copper roofing. I am glad I did.

It went very well. I called the next morning after a fairly heavy rainstorm and Mr. Helton came over within a half-hour. Located the leak source -- a vent pipe - left to purchase materials to repair and fixed the leak the same day. Caulking, replacing flashing and affixing loose roofing tiles. He also made some minor repairs to the chimney flashing.

They were very responsive and were quick in scheduling the repair.

Mr.Helton was prompt, professional and his fee was very reasonable. I was away during his service call, but my wife was present. She said Mr. Helton performed the repair and told her not to pay up front, but to wait until it rained again to verify that his repair was effective! A very trusting and honest way of doing business! It did rain hard a few days later and his repair did the trick. We are very satisfied customers!

Called Helton for a leak in a valley on a 4 year old dimensional shingle roof. Previous attempts to repair with another contractor were unsuccessful. Mr. Helton came out promptly to inspect. After discussing options to repair, I recommended the removal and replacement of the two opposing slopes for that valley. Mr. Helton agreed and wrote me an estimate for $800.00. I called a week later and Mr. Helton and his crew came out and replaced the roofing quickly. They matched the shingles with the same quality as used by the builder. I waited 6 months to add this report to see if the roof leaked again since we have not had much rain lately. No leaking. I did however find that they cracked a piece of vinyl siding when they let the used shingles fall to the ground. I did not call Mr. Helton since it is a small piece and I have to repair another piece on the other side of the house. No real issues with the services provided. Estimate writing is very simple compared to other companies. Very prompt.

We got an estimate, compared with other companies, and work was completed on time. They were supposed to come back and paint vents, but they didn't come back.

The Heltons accepted my check for payment of the materials and scheduled me two weeks later for the job. Because I was on vacation that week, however, they had to postpone since there was always a chance that a circuit breaker would be tripped while they were working, and they would not be able to enter the house to flip it back. I rescheduled for a few days after my return. The first evening they dropped off materials and returned the following morning at 10 and put in a full days' work. They returned the next day to finish the job. The site was always organized and the men hard-working and pleasant. The only stopped for lunch and never seemed to be standing still. The job site was cleaned up by 6 and all trash hauled away; a magnet passed round to pick up stray nails. If I had one small niggle, it was that I later had to clean my gutters because debris and grit had fallen into them from the job, but I suppose that is to be expected. Mr. Helton was there both days and made sure things were done right.

Mr. Helton came on time for the estimate. He emailed me that evening with details of estimate. I sent 50 % for deposit and requested that the work begin on a specific date. They came on that date, did the work, cleaned up and all were very polite. Mr. Helton said my roof was in very good shape and no further repairs were needed. Someone from another roofing company (not on Angie's List) came and estimated the one repair at $100 more AND told me my whole roof needed replacing.

They gave me the best price. They were also the quickest to come out to the house. They came out the next day and always showed up when they said they would. They used commercial hospital product. We had the job inspected a week after it was finished and the inspector stated it was excellent work. The workers were polite and courteous. I was very pleased with the work. I would definitely use them again in the future and would recommend them to others.

Mr. Helton was there in timely manner and started from daylight and worked until dark. He stayed on top of things and made sure my outdoor furniture and plants were protected. I was very well pleased by his performance.

We have a small breakfast nook right off the kitchen, where the roof had recently started leaking. We called Helton Roofing mid morning and they were out here that afternoon to give us an estimate. The estimate was incredibly reasonable and I readily agreed. They were here working on it the next morning! I'm sure that may the the exception not the rule but it's still pretty amazing. I was also impressed that the gentleman that gave me the estimate was one of the two guys working on the project. When they were finished, they cleaned up the entire site--my wife couldn't tell they'd been there at all, except that the shingles and flashing looked new. I was also very impressed with the level of expertise Mr. Helton seems to have, and I appreciated the ease with which he explained the problem and the best solution.

Got name from Angie's List and called. Mr. Helton arrived the next day, discovered the problem and fixed it the next day. He was punctual and professional. I would recommend his services to others.

Very well. Mr. Helton was responsive and professional. Price was a little high for less than an hour's work, but he problem appears to be fixed.

Mr. Helton arrived on time, as scheduled, and always kept me updated through every step of the work. He was friendly and helpful and explained things as he went along - even provided sketches of the proposed work. The work was done in a very timely fashion and is just beautiful. I would reccomend him to anyone, and would certainly call him again.
