He got right on it and got it done quicker then I expected. Then we had terrible rains and the roof leaked. I called him and he came right away and discussed with me how I wanted him to repair it and repaired it at no charge. It came through the ceiling and he repaired that too.
Description of Work: I used G P KIDWELL HOME IMPROVEMENT to replace the roof and repair some of the gutters.

Overall, our experience was terrible. Some of the work was OK in quality, but the lack of finishing, repairing the mistakes they made, and overall cost to have someone else come in behind them and repair, made us feel like we should have contacted Holmes on Homes. Here's a complete synopsis of what went wrong: Overall, Galen cashed our checks, took the money and never finished the initial jobs nor repairs for the mistakes that were made. We called on nearly 20 different occasions and respectfully and kindly asked for returned phone calls to discuss issues and unfinished work. Galen never returned any calls. We tried his cell and his office line without any follow up from him. This follow-up continued for nearly 12-15 months before we simply gave up and hired professionals. Here's what Galen's team didn't do that they committed to in our contracts: 1) The never called us replace shingles that didn't adhere when they re-roofed our main home. We lost close to 20-30 shingles (faulty workmanship) that had to be replaced by a different and more professional group. 2) They never replaced the boards in the garage, in fact I still have the wood they purchased laying in the garage. 3) They bought the paint for the garage, took it when they left the job site and never painted our garage. 4) They never came back to fix the faulty rubber lining in our boxed gutters where the cracks appeared and allowed subsequent freeze-thaw damage and leaking to occur after only 2 years. I would not recommend that anyone hire this group and would highly recommend you go to BBB rated, highly rated Angie's List providers for roofing, gutters (go to an expert for boxed gutters not a generalist, that was our mistake), tuckpointing (the quality of the mortar lines was good, but they used the WRONG mortar for our type of brick and now we have to replace it all) and other general external remodeling. This group is completely non-responsive after they leave the job site. Perhaps they are out of business, as they probably should be, based upon our experience in 2008 and lack of follow through in 2009 and 2010. We would not recommend hiring this group in historic areas of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. They seem nice on the surface, but it's a facade to get your money and leave you hanging with more repairs and costs.
Description of Work: On 2 different occasions, we hired GP Kidwell, run by Galen Kidwell, to address various repairs and updates to our roofing (house, garage), gutters (main house) and tuckpointing (house). While they initially did an acceptable job with the tuckpointing on the house, we have subsequently learned they used the wrong type of mortar for a home with older, softer bricks. The mortar they used does not allow our brick to release moisture and all of the tuckpointing will need to be redone with a lime-based mortar. If you have an older home (eg., 100+ years old) with great brick, do not allow contractors to use regular mortar. Work with professionals who understand what material to use to insure the brick doesn't fall apart over time by trapping moisture inside. During the 2nd improvement project, GP Kidwell was responsible for 2 major projects. The first include re-roofing with new shingles on the main home, as well as lining our metal boxed gutters with a rubber lining that was supposed to "last" for 10-15 years. In both cases, the workmanship was flawed and we lost lots of shingles on the backside of our home, where the weather typically hits (westerly facing). In addition, the box gutters still leak and there are now cracks in the rubber lining. The 2nd project was our older garage with a flat roof. They replaced the rubber, flat roof and also promised to "level" areas in the roof that were sagging, by replacing or adding beams on the inside of the garage. In addition, Galen talked us into tuckpointing the open seams on the garage facing and then they committed to repainting. They also were to repair some word work (replace 2x8 boards) around the garage door frames.
