Tony Jones did not pour a concrete footer (clearly outlined on his proposal and contract to be 30" below the surface). He only poured a 6" slab. The result is an outdoor fireplace that is cracking and falling apart. I tried to resolve this peacefully with Tony Jones, but he refused to admit his guilt/fault. He sent out his "expert engineer" to inspect my fireplace and he said my "fires were too hot and that is what is causing the cracking." He said until I could proved to him that his workmanship was at fault, he was not going to help resolve the matter. I called three other masons and they all agreed Tony Jones neglected to pour the concrete footer (that he charged me $700 for as a separate item on the proposal/contract). I let Tony Jones know I had written documents from other masons outlining his faulty workmanship, yet Tony did not return any of my calls. I've since hired an attorney, spent lots of money to rightfully sue Tony Jones, and was granted a default judgment in the amount of $12,200.00, plus interest, reasonable attorneys fees. Problem is, Tony Jones does not show as owning anything........no businesses, no house, no car, no assets....nothing. Yet, Google "jonesnbar" and discover that Tony Jones operates a bar (actually 2 of them), yet he has no assets and no money? On top of all this, he even asked me to cancel the check I made out to Tony Jones Masonry on November 21, 2008 and asked me to write him a personal check so he could avoid paying taxes.......tax evasion on top of all this.

He completed the work in the summer of 2010. We were in a drought, so it did not rain significantly until the weekend of Thanksgiving. A large hole formed at the top of the window that Mr. Jones replaced and water poured in! We contacted Mr. Jones immediatey, but as of this date, he has refused to even come and look at the damage. We have since gotten a building engineer report and have had to hire a lawyer.
Description of Work: Mr. Jones replaced a large picture window and removed and replaced the stone facing around the window.

An initial estimate and inspection by another company seemed outrageous. I contacted a few companies through Angie's List and Jones Chimney looked like a reputable outfit. He met my mom at the house a week or so prior to performing the work and provided a detailed inspection and estimate about what needed to be done. He was very honest about what he felt was wrong and when my Mom showed him the inspection from the other company (after he had performed his, didn't want any bias) he went through it line by line indicating what he thought was excessive in their estimate and what was right. Additionally, when he had come off of the roof, he mentioned I would likely need a chimney cleaning as well, which, according to the previous companies sheet, had already been done. Needless to say, I wasn't too pleased with the previous company since they hadn't even cleaned the chimney despite saying they did. Anyway, I had Jones Chimney do the work. They showed up early and were done before noon. They cleaned up and from my non-experienced eye, the work looked well done.

I attempted this job myself, after deciding that the estimates and prognosis from other chimney repair folks were outrageous. I got stuck, literally, with over a thousand dollars worth of chimney liner in the flue. Tony Jones answered the phone, came by the same day, and helped me extract the liner. Then we arranged for him to come back and install the liner properly. He did a fine job, promptly.
Description of Work: Completed installation of a stainless steel chimney liner, in a 100 year-old house, with a tricky flue.
