Jeff was one of several painters I asked for estimates. His was very reasonable in comparison with the others and he also called me back in much more timely fashion. Jeff was able to begin work quickly and worked well and flexibly with my schedule. At the start of painting it did become clear that we had had a misunderstanding during the estimate as to what work would be covered (although it should be noted that when I reread the estimate, he wrote out what he thought I wanted, I just didn't read it thoroughly enough). Regardless of whose mistake it was, Jeff was willing to do what he needed to do to make it right, including swallow the cost. In the end, it was a happy accident because what HE thought I wanted looked much better than what I thought I wanted. He used top end Sherwin Williams paint for the house and a specifically formulated paint for the porch concrete. It looks fantastic. Our house went from being one of the ugliest on the street to one of the best (if not the best). Jeff and his assistant worked quickly and neatly and cleaned up after themselves thoroughly. Highly recommended, I would use them again in an instant.
Description of Work: Painted all of our exterior trim, shutters, front and side porch, garage door.

Answered phone when called and was willing to come out and do an estimate. Called back next day and offered to come out the following day to do the actual work. Based on description of work to be done gave an estimate over the phone. Jeff and Ryan showed up next day promptly at 8am. After reviewing work to be done, gave us an option of two grades of paint to use and then went right to work after we made our choice. Sanded off rust on 19 steel lintels (including one garage door), primed, caulked (where needed), and painted all of them in 7 hours or so on a two story house. Did a great job. Site was perfectly cleaned. No drips or trash. Would never have known they were there except for the new-looking lintels. We've already asked them to come out to do another job later in the month.
Description of Work: Sanded/primed/painted/caulked 16 steel lintels on windows (including may that spanned three windows), 2 lintels over doors, and one lintel over the garage door.

Despite the extra work needed on the last bath, Jeff got a lot done in one day (bathrooms are tough to paint) and the quality was good. Clean lines, no paint where it shouldn't be, etc.
Description of Work: Painted one full bath and one half bath. Also applied the first coat to another full bath. All went well, except the last full bath probably should have been primed to cover the old color. We had primer available, but it was never used. The other two baths didn't seem to need it, but the last one required us to apply three more coats of paint before the old color stopped showing through. We were using good paint, too - Behr. | |He had to reschedule the original appointment due to another job he was in the middle of, but it was no problem for us. He kept us well-informed of the changes and his communication was excellent. | |

Painted my wide trim in my living room. Puttied some a few nail heads. Not a drip to be found. I could never do this without a mess. He finished in about 4 hours but the voucher said 8 hours of painting. I pointed this out and while he looked a little shocked when I asked him to do the trim in a bathroom, he excused himself for lunch and said he'd be back. He had lunch in his truck and came right back. He discussed the fact that the tub had a top trim that might not accept paint well but I asked him to paint it anyway. The living room looks beautiful. The white trim brightened the whole room. The bathroom looks better too. As he suspected, the tub trim looks a little streaky but only if you look closely. He warned me so I have no complaint coming on that part. I've engaged him again to do more painting in my house.

. I was very disappointed that he did not tell me until the end of the last day that the ceiling paint that I bought at Sherwin Williams where he bought his paint for other jobs "wasn't very good" and that "he knew that the first day on the cathedral ceilings that it wasn't covering well". Had he communicated that that day I could have gone out and bought more. The second day he thought he had brought an extension pole in my home and so he searched for that for a while and then I offered to go out and get one for him so that he wouldn't be shopping on my paid time with him". I bought one pole the size he said he needed and then it was too long for the job so I took it back and exchanged it for him (this was bought under his account) for a smaller size. He admitted the next day that he found that pole he thought he had lost under a ladder in his van. Since he didn't have an assistant I needed to help move furniture and he didn't have any straps to help with that part of the job (I had asked in advance about moving furniture and he said "that won't be a problem". I prepped the last bedroom wall since he said he couldn't get it done in time if he had to use spackling on the wall (he ended up being done by 3 PM when 4 :30 was the end of his 8 hours that day). BIGGEST DRAWBACKS: He does not give WRITTEN estimates (and his verbal he does not stand by) of what it will cost to do a job, charges by the hour and for clean up time, does not like to do trim work , and complains often about how much is expected of him when he is not doing what he said he could do ALONE on a job site in the first place. He finished one of the two bedrooms at 3 P M the last day and spent until 4:30 cleaning up and just chatting with me for the last 30 minutes rather than perhaps offering to paint the bathroom that he had said would take him 2 hours. BEST PART: He's on time at 8:30 AM and came the day he said he would. His lines where the ceiling and top of the wall are neat. I liked the color of the paint I chose and overall it looks good. I will need to do the trim work as the baseboards have more paint on them now since it soaked throught the blue tape for some reason. LESSON LEARNED: Always get an estimate in writing and do not do a "deal of the day" without first talking to the person to make sure that what you are getting into is guaranteed to be completed in that 8 hour time period (think written contract here ) if painting is offered again. If I had it to do over, I would have hired someone who GUARANTEED that they could complete a small bedroom and a small bathroom with an assistant in 8 hours (Jeff said 5 hours for a bedroom and 2 hours for the bathroom in our first meeting). Had I stuck with the original 8 hours only I would have a little bit of a wall and a ceiling completed in the first day. That's a problem. I WILL THINK TWICE BEFORE PURCHASING THE DEAL OF THE DAY AGAIN.
Description of Work: Jeff painted three rooms of my house in three full days. The great room needed two coats of paint even though it was close to the original color and expensive paint). His original estimate of what he could do in three days was 5 rooms so I have a bedroom and bathroom still left to paint. I had asked to extend the "deal of the day" by 2-3 additional days a month before he started the project and then before he came to my house he made it just two days additional time (see e-mails on your site). He came out to my house in Sept. and saw the work I wanted done and said that he could do my great room and cathedral ceiling in the 8 hour "deal of the day". That sounded like a lot of work in 8 hours to me and it ended up taking him about 2 hours to prepare the area and then 5-5.5 hours to paint the ceiling and a little bit of the top of a wall . He charged for his clean up time also. He did not have a good attitude that day and then told me that he was getting paid HALF of the $199 that I paid Angie's List for his work. I felt that that was being taken out on the customer. I STILL HAD PAID $199 FOR HIS SERVICES THAT DAY AND HE AGREED TO THAT WITH ANGIE'S LIST ! I had asked in advance if there was anything I could do to make his job be painting only and he said "no", but taking off receptacle covers and taping ahead of time would have saved 2 hours for more painting. He did not have an assistant so I was his assistant for the three days.

Response from Jeff Milbauer Painting
You gave me the worst response I have ever received. I worked very hard for you for more than eight hours everyday. Your right, I did not get as much done as I said I would, but I felt like it was important to do the job right and not take any short cuts like your previous painter. You also forgot to mention that the living room, stairwell, and hallway required 2 coats. (not my fault) Also, I did offer to give you estimates to complete the painting. You say you were helping, but I have never seen anybody vacuum the floor while I'm setting up or walk under the roller pole while I'm rolling, or start cleaning up a drip of paint before I can even turn around and get a rag. I appreciate the help you did, it did help out, but I did spend a lot of time explaining things to you and working around you. Plus I had to throw away a lot of the tape that was not taped off properly. That tape is over 5 dollars a roll. You also forgot to mention that I worked way over 8 hours one day just trying my best to make up for not getting as much done as I said I would. You saw that the color difference on the ceiling and walls was significant. There are many different shades of ceiling paint, but they usually cover in one coat. That is why I said it would cover in one coat, which it did cover but barely. The existing wall paint was darker than I thought, and the paint you bought was pretty light (remember I had no idea what color you would choose), but the Duration paint you purchased almost always covers in one coat. Small businesses like myself depend on these reviews. You are making it difficult for me to stay in business. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you to improve my review.

We just had a large deck built and Jeff sprayed the railings and painted the ceiling of the covered porch. It's a huge job, and obviously wasn't able to complete it in a day, so we will have him back till the job is finished. Jeff is a consummate professional and really easy to work with. He went out of his way to work with us to do exactly what we wanted and we're really looking forward to having the porch completed. We would recommend Jeff to anyone who needs a painter for any project. We'll be having him back to do some interior painting once the weather is too cold for his exterior work. Such a wonderful experience!

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was excellent. I'm probably going to call him back to offer to give me some more service to finish painting what else I need to have painted. He did an excellent job. He was here at the time he said he was going to arrive, he cleaned up and there were a few little spots on the floor so he got them up. He was in and out and he did what he said he was going to do. I recommend him highly. There were no extra charges. His dependability and also his workmanship stood out. Even when I was conferring with him online to set up the appointment, I told him what I wanted to have done and he responded back. I told him that he was going to need a tall ladder, he said that was fine, and he brought the ladder and he had everything here. He was probably here earlier than what he said. I bet he only took a 15-minute lunch break. He said 8 hours and he gave me 8 hours. When I get the time and I pull out the rest of my boarder and stuff, I'll probably have him come back and do the rest of it instead of doing it myself.

, He worked on all the areas I pointed out to him before painting. He pulled out refrigerator and stove and painted behind them without me having to ask. He put drop cloths on floor and countertops . I found no paint where it shouldn't be. He cleaned up by even sweeping my floors before he left. He only had time to put on one coat in the 8 hour deal I had purchased. It looks pretty good, but after it had dried, I can now see white spots through the green paint in places. I guess it did need two coats, but that's not his fault since I did pay for what he could get done it 8 hours.

Quickly returned my phone message and showed up promptly at appointment. Gave bid as requested - three separate prices for three separate rooms. Showed up on time -- I could not even be there to let him in but we worked out a way for him to come and go. Wallpaper had been put on the walls when house was built 25 years ago with no sizing or paint beneath. Job was harder than Jeff ever imagined but he worked diligently and professionally and never attempted to raise his price even though I am sure it took him a lot longer than he anticipated. He did a wonderful job. Would definitely recommend him to anyone.

The one little portion of the job that they have done is perfect. He never makes a mess. All the lines are perfect and straight. Because it is a stairwell, it gets a lot of bumps and scrapes, so he gave us good advice about what kind of paint to use and what to do about it.
