DO: Make Sure Your Contract With Martin Williams, owner of MARTIN'S MAGICAL MAKEOVERS, is written EXACTLY what work is to be completed. Make sure all the "i's" are dotted and all the "t's" are crossed! DO: Withhold a sizeable amount of the total cost of the project until ALL WORK is completed to your satisfaction! DO: Get more than the cell phone number for contact information if you hire this man and his company! DO: Make sure the work will be performed as was stated in the contract. Example, if having house painted with brushes, make sure that is how the painting is done and not peformed with a roller! DO: Check for yourself each stage of the work spelled out in the contract as it is completed and make sure all work at each stage is completed as stated in the contract and to your satisfaction. For me personally, as I said above, it was a blessing in disguise that Mr. Martin Williams did not perform the majority of the painting we had done as he stated during our initial meeting. His work is sloppy, done in a hurry and subpar at best. As I told Mr. Martin Williams during one of my phone calls which he NEVER returned, "Needless to say, you won't be working at this address again. I WILL NEVER HIRE THIS MAN FOR ANOTHER PROJECT AND IF I KNEW WHAT HE WAS LIKE BEFORE, I WOULD HAVE NEVER HIRED HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Description of Work: Martin's Magical Makeovers is owned by Martin Williams in Elizabethtown, Ky, 42701. He was NOT truthful from the very start of our relationship, as he said he did all the work himself, but that did turn out to be "blessing in disguise" because the person he sub-contracted the work out to, Mr. Ben Jarboe, did an excellent job on painting our home. What work Martin Williams did was average to sub-par at best. He, Martin Williams, went out of his way to make sure we had the money to pay him when he was "supposedly" close to finishing the job and when we paid in full, he left our project, UNFINISHED, and we NEVER heard from him again. He has failed to return approximately four calls to his cell phone listed for this business. He painted our front door, poor job, didn't use a drop cloth and got paint on the floor, brush streaks and failed to fill in several gouges where rust had developed. He slapped the paint on as he was in a hurry because he had been paid and wanted to get going. He put in an outside water spigot which was leaking, access was inside of our home, he failed to move the furniture back and failed to caulk around the spigot outside. When he first gave us an estimate we wanted a sodium vapor light installed on the left side of our home and he stated that would be NO PROBLEM so we purchased the light. When it came time to install the light at the end of his painting, he said there were no connections in which to hook up the light so it was not completed. We have a hot tub room which is screened in and we wanted the sections of screening framed to make the screen areas smaller which he agreed to do. When I mentioned that to him when he was putting up the framing and lattice work, he said that was not part of the deal and didn't do the work. He left trash in our yard, old pieces of wood and upc codes from the lumber we purchased which I had to pick up. As I stated above, he got his money Friday, August 5th, 2011 and said the job would be completed by Monday, August 8th, 2011 but when Monday came and went, Martin Williams never came back and took his worker off of the job to help him with other projects he had contracted for with other customers. After a week and several calls to him with no reply, we appealed to Mr. Ben Jarboe, his worker and Mr. Jarboe came over on a Sunday, his day off, to finish the work. We felt bad for Mr. Jarboe as he was "left holding the bag" for Martin Williams, owner of Martin's Magical Makeovers, so we paid Mr. Jarboe $12 an hour for 2 1/2 hours of work he performed that should have been completed a week ago. Anytime we asked Martin Williams to do something for us that was NOT in our CONTRACT, we told him to add the extra to our invoice as we would NEVER try to "nickel and dime" anybody to get something for nothing. We NEVER tried to take advantage of him but he sure took advantage of us. He left our hot tub room filthy and that was part of the work we paid Mr. Jarboe for to clean up the mess. Martin Williams has catchy sayings on his business card but has no stationary address and only uses a cell phone as a way of contacting him if problems arise. We had also asked to put up a small piece of lattice in the hot tub room that was NOT initially discussed which we would pay him, I went and picked up the piece of lattice and two pieces of framing lumber and he has refused to reimburse me for those items. I would NEVER hire MARTIN'S MAGICAL MAKEOVERS owned by MR. MARTIN WILLIAMS again, it was an unpleasant experience dealing with this man personally. Oh, he also had a young lady painting for him and when she painted our hot tub room and around the "rope lights" we had strung around the perimeter, which were all working before, only one rope light was working partially when she finished. I had to throw in the trash four (4) sets of rope lights which MR. MARTIN WILLIAMS never answered my repeated phone calls about this problem.
