Keyboard Carriage was hired to move an antique grand piano I inherited from my aunt in San Francisco to my home in Portland, Oregon. One of the executors chose the movers, based exclusively on price. Keyboard Carriage was the cheapest, although they would only move the piano from one warehouse to another, so that three service providers were ultimately involved - one warehouse in San Francisco and one in Portland, as well as Keyboard Carriage. I have no comment on the warehouses, this review only applies to Keyboard Carriage. They were scheduled to pick up the piano in San Francisco at the end of October, with delivery to Portland the first week in November. The second week in November I called the Portland warehouse as I hadn't heard anything. They had not been notified of the move by Keyboard Carriage at all. I called Keyboard Carriage and was told that the person in charge of moving pianos was not available, but would call me back. Two days later I still hadn't heard so I called Keyboard Carriage again and was connected with someone who told me that they had tried to pick up the piano but the warehouse in SF wouldn't let them in. This person dropped the phone four times during our conversation; I couldn't testify to his condition, but he sounded inebriated to me. I then called the SF warehouse, where I was promptly and courteously answered. They told me that Keyboard Carriage had called them at 5:30 pm saying that they would pick up the piano at 8:00 am the next morning and could not wait for it to be moved to the front of the warehouse. This went on a couple of times and the warehouse finally moved the piano to the front of the warehouse and Keyboard Carriage picked it up. This was now Thanksgiving week. At this point I learned that the piano was coming to Portland from San Francisco by way of Kentucky. I do not know whether the executor who hired these folks knew that, but she had been under the impression that the move from SF to Portland would take a week to 10 days. The piano sat in Kentucky until the end of December. During this time, I called Keyboard Carriage several times to learn the status of my piano. They were consistently rude when I could reach them at all, and never once returned a phone call even after promising. The piano finally reached the warehouse in Portland the first week in January - but it turned out that Keyboard Carraige had told the Portland warehouse that they piano was to be stored, not delivered to my house. I had to call them to arrange delivery to my house. Altogether a miserable experience.
