Absolutely fabulous. Steve is really an artist. He suggested and did some extras ( free) that we would never have thought about. We are so happy.

Steve was great to work with and his employees were all very nice, professional, and did a great job. The backsplash was individual glass tile, which can be difficult to cut without breaking but they did a great job. They paid attention to details and also cleaned up after themselves. I will hire them when we are ready to finish part of our basement and install a new bathroom and kitchenette in the space.

The crew and subcontractors were punctual and polite, showing high attention to detail and cleaned up afterward. We had ordered vanity cabinetry from a separate supplier who caused severed schedule disruption for The Carpenter's Son, but they worked around the problem in a thoughtful manner to complete the project. I also asked for referrals to a couple of his subcontractors for other unrelated work and I have found them to be high in quality and service as well. We are extremely pleased with the design, quality of construction and overall value that we received.
Description of Work: He completely renovated our bath and toilet area with tiling, plumbing, dry wall, electric, heated floor and fixtures to give us a spa-like walk-in shower area with a separate drying area.

It went great. Seriously, I went to work and came home to a perfect kitchen. Steve Thomas added artistic things that I never thought of such as the fancy outlets. So the details are this was the most "easy peasy" thing ever. I highly recommend Steven Thomas.

Steve did not perform any work, I definitely will not be contacting him again for any future work.
Description of Work: I contacted Steve Thomas on 1/20/15 by phone and asked to schedule an estimate on a few small home projects. Steve asked me to text him my contact information and he would call back to set up an appointment. I texted about 30 minutes after the call. Steve never contacted me regarding the estimate. I called him on 1/26/15 to follow and went to his voicemail. I left a message asking about scheduling an estimate and he still has not returned my call. Extremely disappointed in the total lack of follow-up.

I am sorry I could not find time to quote [name removed] small job. We are booked 2 months out on large projects & it is not cost effective to pull my crew for $500 worth of work. That being said, I should have called her or just turned her down from the start. I'm sorry Cindy & good luck to you on your project.

Let me say first I didn't have them do the work, we only had an estimate done. I didn't have him do the work for a simple reason, it was a bit out of our price range. But I liked this guy and his ideas so much he deserves a review. Contractors are the worst, plain and simple... always late, excuse after excuse we all know the drill. This guy was on time, clean cut and looked professional. He drove a nice truck and was even concerned about his shoes on my hardwood floors ( I like that he cared enough to ask what he should do) I told him to leave shoes on, not a big deal and he still seemed like we wanted to take them off, very good in my book. His ideas were in line with what I would have liked and he was flexible on the price, but it was over my head and I couldn't pay at the current time. I ended up doing alot of the work and bringing in a guy in areas I was stuck, but anytime someone asks who I recommend its this guy and if I ever need work int he future I will reach out again. Some of the pictures I saw of his previous work is outstanding and from the beginning I really felt I could trust him. Not many people will say that about their contractors. Hope this helped.

It went according to their plans. The workers did their duties without interruptions and in a timely manner. Some were scheduled at different times according to their expertise etc. electrician, cabinet builder, etc. Steve was on top of what was being done at all times..The remodeling was to take three week and they finished early. They did an excellent job!
Description of Work: Remodeled kitchen. Demolished the old pantry, removed desk and cabinets above desk, old lighting above cabinets, shoe molding, 2 layers of flooring old countertops. They hung and finished new drywall where pantry existed, installed backer board and tile on the floor, natural stone back splash above all countertops and new granite countertops. A new sink, faucet and insinkerator was installed. A new pantry 42" x 96" with slide out drawers on bottom and adjustable shelves was built and installed, a three drawer cabinet was built and installed next to the pantry, crown molding above cabinets and three doors under countertop end to allow access to plumbing. Eight recessed ceiling lights were installed and new light/ceiling fan was installed.

There should be a grade higher than an "A" because I would surely give Steve Thomas and his crew that high a rating...A++. I was dreading this invasion in my home and the mess it would create but from day one, Steve made it easy. Communication is excellent. He tells you what is being done that day and when he leaves he tells you exactly what to expect the next day. I was notified when he was on his way and how soon to expect him. It was a very thorough updating so you were never left wondering. It was this attention to detail that was the routine of the whole project. While Steve himself is very knowledgeable and skilled, his crew is equally talented and they work together like a "well-oiled machine". No time was ever wasted...they worked hard and well. His painter was one of the best I have ever met and likewise, his plumber and electricians were skilled, neat and pleasant. In fact, the whole crew was enjoyable to have around and his main emphasis is on pleasing the customer. Well, Steve, I am very pleased and glad that I gave you the opportunity to do this work. There are a few more projects in my future and I would not dream of using anyone else. Quality work, good work ethic and a fair price. It was worth every dime and then some. Not one regret. i highly recommend this company...
Description of Work: This company did a complete remodel of my old 1957 master bathroom. It included ripping out all tile in bath area and floor, vanity, mirror and toilet. The tub was converted to a beautiful cultured granite shower with frameless glass doors. A custom vanity of solid maple and cultured granite top was installed and a new large tile floor was laid on the diagonal. It is no longer looking 1957.....welcome to 2013!

Response from The Carpenter's Son
We are sorry that we could not get the members pricing where they needed it, but we are very competitive on price. Obviously, there are people that will do things for less, and we know that we beat other contractor's pricing routinely. We do not pretend to be the cheapest out there, but we do promise to do the highest quality of work without cutting corners. We could have given them an allowance of $2.00/ sq. ft. for backsplash tile, but we gave them a $10.00 / sq. ft. allowance. That is an allowance that will get you into a wide variety of natural stone, but not an outrageous number. We certainly could have revised the proposal with lower material allowances, but were not given the opportunity. The reality of the situation is that you can spend as much as $60.00 or more / sq. ft. if you wanted to and not everyone is looking for that. The members apparently weren't in that price point and gave us a poor review based on that alone. We have taken great pride in our review scores and if you have used us to do a project, you know we are very hands on and completely committed to customer service. We offered to help the members go shopping and make material selections with them and offered design services. All for a mere $500.00 in installation labor on a backsplash that would take a day to install and a return visit to grout and caulk to the countertop (not to mention the time involved to help them shop for materials). An additional plumbing labor charge of $250.00 to install a new faucet and plumb the new kitchen sink w/ disposal was included and would be done in house without having the members find a plumber or have that work scheduled. Unfortunately, some consumers do not realize what things actually cost. The Carpenter's Son just completed a larger backsplash for $650.00 that someone else quoted for $1200.00. A third quote on the same backsplash was $650.00 in labor charges. What got us the job was our professionalism and knowledge of the product and ability to explain why we use the materials we use. We are also fully insured for liability and workmen's compensation. Legitimately run businesses have overhead that guys working out of the back of their pickup trucks do not, and those costs sometimes cost us jobs. We are not upset that we did not get their work, but it is a shame that we got our first C rating based on price and not on work performed. We hope the members got a professional installation and wish them all the best, but we believe their review is not only unfair, but borderline appalling. We should not be punished for offering high end work at a fair price. I can't believe our first bad rating was over a POTENTIAL job with a labor price tag of $750.00. Steve was great. He and his team are very neat and do excellent work. They gutted our entire bathroom. The new tile looks amazing (travertine on the floor, shower walls and spa tub surround). In addition to the tile, they also put in a heated floor, two new vanities, new toilet, glass shower door, light fixtures, mirrors and granite counter tops. The painter he used did a wonderful job (my husband painted in college so he is very critical of painters). The job took about 6 weeks total and we are so happy. We even had an issue with a few floor tiles about a month after the job was finished. Steve responded to us immediately and took care of the issue. I think it says a lot about a contractor when they are willing to take your phone calls AFTER the job is done!:-) We are planning to finish our basement next year and we will definitely be contacting Steve.

It was a great experience. Both our bathrooms are exactly the way we want now. I couldn't be happier!
Description of Work: Made My Dreams Come True Twice! The Carpenter’s Son did a great job on our master bathroom in October 2011. I had pictured in my mind exactly what I wanted, and Steve Thomas with The Carpenter’s Son made that image come true. He tore out a garden tub and tiny shower and gave me the huge shower of my dreams. He did an excellent job renovating the entire master bath from start to finish. When Steve was finished everything was cleaned up, and I was ready to enjoy! We then called The Carpenter’s Son back this spring to renovate our hall bathroom. Once again, Steve took our thoughts and made them a reality! We could not have asked for a better job. Steve’s integrity, the quality product he provides, and his work ethic are unbeatable.

The demolition work started in earnest on time and the bulk of the tear out was done in the first several days of the project. This included completely removing 4 prior floors, wall and soffit demolition, removal of bathroom wall tile on metal lathe down to studs and the complete removal of the bathroom floor including thickset tile on concrete as well as the floor sheathing. The bath floor was built up from joists to correspond with cement board and porcelain tile heights planned through out for the kitchen and rear foyer. All new recessed lighting was roughed in the kitchen and a new celing hung and finished. The exterior walls were insulated with blown in fiberglass and all the walls were skimmed and prepped for paint. The coordination on the custom cabinet package was phenomenal. Changes and additions were made late that caused adjustments to have to be made and not a beat was missed. The craftsmanship and observance of close tolerances with the cabinets and the attention to detail is evident in the final product. we have been particulary pleased with the tile work of the floor and backsplash. The thought process in the layout of the joints and cuts balanced the project and is exceptionally attractive. From the very begginning, we felt that we had made the correct decision contracting with The Carpenters Son. We did interview several other contractors before making the decision. We felt comfortable with Steve's thinking process and greatly appreciated his candor throughout the project. We knew what to expect in advance throughout the project. He kept us informed ahead of the project and was very much hands on and in control.
Description of Work: The Carpenters Son, owner Steve Thomas, guided us through the early stages of planning and budgeting for a full kitchen and bath remodel. The scope of the project included space planning, tile material selections, appliances, lighting and general electrical upgrades as well as plumbing upgrades. The planning started in October of 2012 and by the end of December the custom cabinet package was designed and priced, the floor and wall tile selections and the granite counter top had been made. All the materials were sourced and availability was factored in to the schedule. It was decided that work would commence in mid-January.

We would highly recommend Steve Thomas for other home improvement projects and have recommended him to friends. We had our master bathroom remodeled. Steve gave a detailed estimate of the work to be done as well as suggestions of what could or could not be done. Our remodel included tile, cabinet, countertop, toilet and faucet removal. Steve retiled and installed new cabinets with countertops, toilet and faucets. Steve managed the enire project as well as doing most of the work himself. New shower doors were measured and installed by a company that Steve contacted. He was present when they measured and installed to make sure the job was done correctly and to our satisfaciton. He measured and ordered the cabinets and countertops and was here to make sure the correct cabinets were delivered. He had one assistant to help with tearing up the old tile. This man was also very qualified and trustworthy. We appreciated Steve's hard work ethic. He made sure to tell us when he would be arriving, always protected our floorings and furniture, and always cleaned up at the end of the work day. The remodel took approximately two weeks since Steve did most of the work himself. We liked that it was just him on the project doing the hard labor knowing it would be done correctly. We have heard stories of contracters giving estimates and then sending in hired help off the streets to do the actual work with very poor results. This is not the case with Steve. We completely trusted him being in our home and were very pleased with the completed project. He was very easy to work with and to communicate our wants and needs.
Description of Work: Steve removed bathroom cabinets and countertops, faucets, toilet, shower door, and tiled floor and shower. He installed new sheet rock in shower and around tub before retiling. He retiled enire floor before installing new cabinets and countertops. Intstalled new faucets, toilet, mirrors and frames. Contacted mirror and glass companies for new mirrors and shower doors.

Thanks, for the ringing endorsement. You were an excellent client to work with as well. I would like to make one correction to your description of work post. We installed a WEDI shower system as substrate for the tile in your shower. Sheetrock is not a recommended substrate in wet areas. The process was quick and painless for us and Steve kept the workspace tidy! We were relieved to have the problem solved and thrilled with the results.
Description of Work: Due to a leak, we needed a new shower in our downstairs bathroom and Steve helped us through this process without remodeling the entire bathroom! He installed a new neo angle cultured marble shower enclosure, shower glass, repaired tile where it met the new shower on the floor and walls, and painted.

Steve took two days for our project, which was a large area above the kitchen counters. He was prompt, knowledgeable, professional, and very friendly. He had some really great ideas for what we could do with the area, and was very adaptable to our input.
Description of Work: Steve Thomas, the owner, tiled the area behind out sink and stove in the kitchen, working with us to match the granite we had just installed, and taking our ideas for a creative design over the sink itself (since we had no window.)
