The driveway looked fine for a year or two, then started cracking. And it drained towards the house from the start. Don't believe anyone who says that all concrete cracks. They're full of it. Done properly, concrete will last for decates or longer without any cracking at all. Of course, you have to cut control joints for that.
Description of Work: So I just had my driveway removed and replaced. Brian Mills was the one who put it in a few years back. See, it was draining towards the house. Every time it rained, I'd have four inches of water right up against the house. Maybe because he didn't put one bit of drainage into the thing, or maybe because it settles on that side because he didn't use a single stick of rebar in the thing and not a single pebble of gravel. Although he sure charged me for both. Also, he didn't cut a single control joint in the entire driveway or parking pad. Just poured it straight onto the bare ground and didn't give even a second thought to drainage. And if that wasn't enough, it's gonna cost me the same to have it torn out and replaced correctly (with rebar, gravel, and draining away from the house) as it cost to have him put it in all jacked up! My neighbor down the street had a similar experience. He put up a retaining wall without drainage, and didn't finish the job. Although I don't know the specifics on that one. In retrospect, when I saw that the driveway he poured for his own house on a perfectly flat surface was all cracked up, I should've known better.
