We had major flooding in the area earlier in the year and my in-laws house had a lot of damage from it necessitating a claim to FEMA. Their subfloors needed to be pulled up and replaced and releveled. The contracter, who is a very nice guy, came in and gave a quote and agreed to do the work during a time that they would be out of town on vacation for an extended period of time. I only live a few miles down the road, so we kept an eye on the progress. It all started out well, they got started when they said they would. We had another major rain storm shortly after they got the floors pulled up and he called me to come over and see some additional problems that they found with the rain, all good, their quote for the additional work was reasonable. However, it was on putting everything back that we began to have problems. Their installation of the laminate flooring was terrible. When they finished and I went over to check it out, I pointed out a major and very obvious installation problem in the middle of the floor and said they needed to fix that which was met with a very snide and rude comment by one of his workers. On further examination of the flooring, walking down the hallway was like stepping from trampeline to trampeline as they had cut the planks too long so that they bowed up in the center. In addijtion, the planks were not put together tightly. They did redo the hallway, but still left one trampeline area in it. I didn't seem like they had a clue on how to work with that kind of flooring. They tried to tell me that you would always have bouncy areas on a floor like that (having personally installed that kind of flooring, I know that not to be true and told them so). Then on to the kitchen... we had them install a dishwasher as a surprise to mom. They had to cut down a cabinet to do so, The installation of the cabinets was terrible. They installed the cabinet at the very end too close and so tried to shove the stove back in, which they did crookedly and now the oven does not work. When we tried the new dishwasher, it leaked all over the new laminate flooring and they electrical that they did installing it was such a poor job that we couldn't even pull the unit out to see where it was leaking from without undoing all the wiring and then rewiring it the right way. It was a brand new machine and it appears that while installing it, they crushed the tube on the side of it and broke it. They did not relevel and shim the counter top and did not brace it in the proper places. Long story short, we have had to call them back out there to redo just about everything that they did. He has been nice about coming back and trying to fix it, but we are having to call him back on over and over to redo it. Nice guy, but no attention to detail and it doesn't appear that he goes back to check on work that his guys have done. He will get no referrals from us or my any of our family and too bad for him as there are four of us living in this area and all of us have construction projects going on or coming up in our homes.
