Ray Drennan laid floors in my new home. 2 weeks afterward, they cupped. He admitted that he did not do any moisture testing and that he did not check under the house. His wife, Karen Drennan, said that she has contacted installers in the area and they do not do moisture testing either. When I contacted all of them to get quotes to replace the floor, they said it was standard practice. Karen is a mean, hateful, and deceitful person. We tried to settle things with them out of court. We had a NWFA flooring inspector come to look at our floors. He said that the floors did not acclimate correctly. They put the flooring in our house 3 days before the air was on. The air was turned on three days after the floor arrived and was laid 3 days after the air was on. They mistakenly thought that this was appropriate practice. The 3 days without air likely harmed the floors. Ray would not know because he did no moisture testing. Now that we have a lawyer, the Drennans have lied to their lawyer and said that they did moisture testing! They have no conscience! They only have liability insurance that covers things out of their control, but does not cover installation. They don't have the money, so they are now lying. We plan to take them to court. In the meantime, if you know of anyone looking to have a new floor installed, do not go to Floors Unlimited in Possom Trot! Ray is a poor installer (though he will tell you he is the best) and his wife is rude, hateful, and a liar. I have talked to lots of installers over the last few months about the Drennans' floor installation practices. All of them have said that Ray is not following proper guidelines. Karen also lied about the carpet we had installed, but that is a whole other story. . . We will also be replacing the carpet soon.

Response from FLOORS UNLIMITED
The problem with the (Member name removed) floors was the 2" of standing water under there home, which was documented by the company representative, and their inspector. At the time of installation the air was on,and acclimated for three days before installing. A moisture test was done, but Ray did not go under the crawl space. This is not the job of the installer. They did contact an attorney, as did we. They wanted to settle, and we refused, as we did nothing wrong. I have five hardwood representatives, all giving statements that the only thing causing wood to cup is moisture. After we refused to settle, they completely dropped their case. A relative was their home builder, and they did not want to pursue him for the damages, as it is his job to make sure the moisture barrier is correctly installed under the home, and there is no moisture. Ray has been a flooring installer for forty-four years, and has a wonderful reputation. We've had many years of repeat business. If anything Ray had done incorrectly had caused damage to their floors our insurance would have taken care of it, but moisture under their home is not our problem. We have been in business for twenty-six years, and have never had a claim. I'm sorry the Motts had this problem, but should really have contacted their contractor with this problem. We work with many contractors, and they have all said that is their responsibility, not the floorcovering installer. I never stated that installers in our area don't do moisture testing; I can't speak for another company. As to the carpet problem, I have no idea what she's speaking about as the carpet was never mentioned.
