They are prompt. I think they are honest. They always make sure that they do everything correct. I never had any problem with them. They have always done everything I have asked them to do and sometimes more. They are very friendly. They always call before they come which I like. They put in 30 minutes or so on when they are going to be here so I can prepare. I am very, very pleased with their service. I know I have a very old unit and they could have found things wrong with it. They are very honest and they say that this is what I have to be looking at. They didn't keep trying to find something to repair. They repaired what needed to be repaired and serviced what needed to be serviced. I have a service contract and I don't think they charged me anything because of that contract. They come out once in the fall and once in the spring. It was worth the service fee.
Description of Work: Arronco Comfort Air Inc came out and serviced our furnace. I have a geothermal unit and they checked our line. I have a service contract with them. I have used them for many years.

Tech arrived promptly on emergency heating failure call with outside temps below 20 degs. Was obviously competent, polite and explained problem down to the technical details I asked about. Decided not to make the $1000 repair and to get bids to replace the 17 year old furnace. Arronco sales person called with a bid on Sunday. Ultimately used another company that had a considerably lower bid for apples to apples equipment/service contract.

Although several changes had to be made to get the wells in place they held to their bid. The electric cost is much lower than previously although that reflects the combination of new windows, insulation and geothermal heat. It was a very complicated job requiring a lot of equipment instillation, cutting floor and ceiling vents and returns. The project went pretty smoothly until the very end when we had to do the landscaping of the well field which we were not told we had to do and the air return for the second floor which I had agreed to finish out was installed in such a manner that I cannot do the finish work.gton
Description of Work: Arronco installed a Water Furnace Geothermal system in my house build in 1929. The house previously had an oil furnace followed my baseboard electric heaters. Both previous systems were very expensive. Prior to the geothermal installation, new windows had been installed and the house insulated. Arronco drilled 9 wells for the system. They had to move the location three times because of mud deposits in the well field. The final location was much father from the house than originally planned. They installed two units (one in the basement and one in the attic) so as not to add ductwork to the house. They how perform twice annual service and filter replacement.

Everything went well. The workman arrived on time , were very polite and trustworthy. Our lawn was messed up in the process which we knew would happen considering that they had a big truck come in and dig down to install the piping. This summer we used our ac all of the time and the costs were not much more than last year when we hardly used it at all. This winter will be a good test to see what kind of savings we have on our heating costs. I really like having the humidifier. The house is so much more comfortable/ no dry air and much better for allergies.
Description of Work: Aronco installed a new geothermal heating and cooling system. We went from two heating/ac systems to one. We needed to have some new duct work and reconfiguration done to make it work properly. Jamie, spent a lot of hours with us explaining how the system works, what the challenges were for our particular house and how to meet them and also filled in all the paperwork for the state rebate. He really seems to know his stuff and his staff of workman were very professional. After the installation Jamie checked everything out and made sure it was done properly. We were unhappy with the size of the covering for where the pipes go into the house. They very willingly made a smaller one to please us. I feel this company will do what it needs to have a happy customer. They also have a service plan that covers the work for ten years.

This was a complicated install that many of the HVAC companies we contacted could not handle. Arronco did a great job and though this was a bit spendy, overall, we have been very satisfied. Immediately saw a reduction in energy bill (previously, we had two gas furnaces for the 3800 square foot house) and the house is very comfortable.

Because I believed both the Arronco Service Manager and their VP/GM when they said they wanted to "work with me" to resolve this issue I have not yet proceeded with my insurance claim and the lower level of my home has been unusable for more than a month while I waited for them to "work with me". I am now forced to proceed with a claim with my insurance company and request that the subrogate the claim to Arronco. Had Arronco installed a part that was warranted for only 30 days and failed on the 31st day I could understand their position. Had Arronco performed the PM as it should have been performed and it failed on the 31st day I could understand their position. However, Arronco's own Senior Technician made it abundantly clear that the required PM of the Condensate Drain had not been performed as described in their Preventive Maintenance Brochure and he felt so strongly about it that: 1) he didn't charge for the weekend, emergency call and; 2) he brought the matter to the attention of the Arronco Service Manager. This is clearly a case of Arronco failing to perform the PM described in their Preventive Maintenance Brochure. The suggestion that I might have done something to cause the Condensate Drain to become blocked, thereby damaging my carpet and possibly my HVAC unit is absurd on its face. The suggestion that I could simply file a claim with my insurance company provides a cynical view of the relationship between insured and insurer. Filing a claim has negative repercussions on the insurer only and not on the company that caused the problem. When working with this company: 1. Always observe their service technicians to ensure that they are performing all the required PM. 2. Always get their promises in writing. I've learned that Arronco doesn't want to put its promises in writing. 3. Always obtain a written check list of the required PM and what was actually performed at each visit and have it signed by the technician who performs the work. 4. Ask them for a copy of their dispute resolution procedure. 5. Find a company that has a reputation of saying what they mean and meaning what they say.
Description of Work: On April 13, 2012 I signed a 1 year service agreement with Arronco Comfort Air. That agreement provided for, among other things, two service calls; one in the the spring for AC and one in the fall for heating. The purpose of those service calls was to inspect the system and perform Preventive Maintenance (PM). On April 13, 2012 an Arronco service technician came to our home to provide the spring PM. It is important to note that for the entire time this technician was performing the scheduled PM he was talking on his cell phone. On June 17, 2012 my wife discovered that the carpet on the last step leading to the finished lower level of our home was saturated with water as was the carpet on the floor. I determined that the water was coming from the HVAC unit in the unfinished portion of the lower level. Rather than flowing through the condensation drain line water was flowing out of the unit itself. I called Arronco and explained the problem and because it was a Sunday I was told that their on-call technician would be in contact. The technician did call and suggested that the condensation drain line was most likely plugged. In hopes of avoiding a costly weekend, emergency service charge this Arronco Senior Technician suggested that I try to use a vacuum to remove the material that was plugging the drain. When that failed I called back and he stated he would come to our home. He arrived within 20 minutes diagnosed the problem disconnected the drain and using a high pressure stream of water manged to dislodge a significant amount of material that had plugged the drain line. I have numerous photographs to support not only the water flowing from the unit but also the 3/4" diameter material that was flushed from the 3/4" condensation drain line. The Arronco Senior Technician unambiguously stated that the drain line was obstructed because the condensation drain line had not been flushed as it should have been during the April PM. This Senior technician felt so strongly about this that he 1) did not charge us for this Sunday, emergency call and 2) stated that he was going to explain this problem to his Service Manager first thing Monday morning and that we should call the Service Manager on Monday because the Senior Arronco Technician believed that Arronco's failure to perform the PM properly caused the problem. According to Arronco's Preventive Maintenance Brochure ( http://www.arronco.com/preventativemaintenance ) the: Condensate Drain is to be inspected to assure it is open. I spoke with the Arronco Service Manager on June 18th and after explaining that they normally only guaranty PM for 30 days, ( a fact not mentioned any where on Arronco's web site or on their Preventive Maintenance Brochure) in this case he would "work with me". We agreed that the flooring company that had installed the carpet just 2 1/2 yrs. prior would be the arbiter of what needed to be done to correct the damage. Whether Arronco's failure to inspect the condensate drain and assure that it was open caused any damage to the unit has yet to be determined. Unfortunately, the damage done to the carpet though not over an extensive area, was significant in that it caused the backing to disintegrate and delaminate from the fiber. According to the General Manager of the flooring company that had installed this carpet just 2 1/2 yrs. pror, it can not be adequately repaired and because that particular carpet has been discontinued it needs to be replaced. When the Arronco Service Manager heard this he turned the matter over to Arronco's Insurer. We provided full and open access to that adjuster who came to our home several weeks after the incident. About a week after that I called to ask what the status of the claim was and was informed by the adjuster that Arronco had decided that they were not at fault and they were not going to pay for the damage. However, Arronco contends that the decision was purely that of their insurer. Following that call, I wrote to the President of Arronco explaining the situation and stated that I was terminating our Service Agreement and was requesting the balance of $97.50 for the unused portion of that agreement. The day that the letter was received by Arronco I received a call from Arronco's Vice President and General Manager who stated that he was unaware of the problem and the he wanted to "work with me" and that because it was late Friday he would call me the following Monday. On that Monday July 16, 2012 the VP/GM did call and we had a cordial business like conversation. During that conversation he stated that Arronco was unwilling to accept liability for their flawed PM and suggested that its possible that I may have done something to cause the problem. Never the less, he offered $500 to settle the matter. I rejected that offer, explaining that I was being forced to file a claim with my insurer, pay a $1,000 deductible, have my claim record receive a negative report, and have my insurance company begin subrogation. The VP/GM listened to my concerns and told me he would investigate the matter further and get back to me. On July 20, 2012 the Arronco VP/GM called and explained that after long thought he had concluded that Arronco had no liability but he would reimburse my entire Service Agreement amount of $195. He again repeated Arronco's position that 1) he's seen condensation drain lines plug up in as little as 30 days 2) I may have done something to the unit to cause to cause the problem and thus damage my carpet and 3) I can always file a claim with my insurance company. I have rejected that offer as well. However, the replacement cost of the carpet and pad (more than 500 sq. ft.) which is required by my insurer is $2,819.52 and will now have to be born by me directly via payment of my deductible and indirectly as a result of having to proceed with an insurance claim. There is also carpet in two adjacent bedrooms that unless it is also replaced will be a complete mismatch from what ever carpet is installed to replaced the damaged portion. The alternative to that mismatch is, of course, replacement of all the carpet which will add about $2,500 to the total.

Response from Arronco Comfort Air
Thank you for taking the time to get our side of the story. I had many conversations with this homeowner in an effort to come to an understanding on this matter prior to the member filing complaints with the BBB and Angie’s List. My first correspondence with the homeowner was in the form of a certified letter in which he stated his intentions to file a complaint with the BBB and Angie's list. Since then we have had several conversations and we looked into the situation in great detail, but were not able to meet the customers’ demands as they were unreasonable and unwarranted blame was being placed on us. It is also important to note that the BBB has closed the complaint citing “response from your company addresses the disputed issues and exhibits a good faith to resolve the complaint”. There are many references to conversations and perspectives that I was not a part of in this complaint, and I cannot speak to the context and/or perspective in which they were given or received. That being said it is best to stick to the facts of this matter for a clear understanding. We did not install this system but have performed maintenance twice a year beginning in 2010. The most recent maintenance was done on April 13th as stated by the homeowner. Arronco's Maintenance agreement brochure does state service for Condensate drain as "Inspected to assure it is open" as stated by the homeowner. The homeowner stated they noticed the wet carpet on June 17th, over 2 months since the maintenance was performed. Whole house air conditioners produce anywhere from 5-20 gallons of condensate per day in a typical application. We have had an unusually warm spring and summer this year and air conditioners have been running quite a bit to meet demand. There is no doubt that several hundred gallons of condensate flowed through the drain between April 13th and June 17th, proving that the condensate drain was in fact open at the time of our maintenance and for some time after our maintenance. The member disputed this citing average temperatures and I provided data showing actual daily temperatures for the time period of 4/13/12 to 6/17/12. The first of many 80 degree plus days occurred in late April and there were approximately 17 days in this time period that were warmer than the date of 6/17 proving that an equal amount or more water flowed through the condensate drain on a daily basis prior to the blockage occurring. Although we understand the frustration that can come from doing all the right things to be proactive and maintain anything mechanical and still experiencing a problem, it does not warrant the blame and demands that are being placed on us. Preventative maintenance no doubt goes a long way in preventing a condensate drain issue, but there is absolutely no way for anyone to guarantee that it will never become clogged for any amount of time after the maintenance is performed, and we did not make such a guarantee. In regards to our Insurance Company; Insurance is a heavily regulated industry to prevent fraud and ensure fair reimbursements. As a company, we cannot tell an insurer what claims to pay and what not to pay, this would be against the law. We submitted the claim at the homeowners request as required by law. Our insurer determined that we were not at fault (their decision based on facts) and the next step for the member if they choose is to get their insurer involved. If there insurer could prove that we were responsible, our insurer would be required to pay by law. The member has been reluctant to take this action, but has now done so (we received notice on 7/26/12) and it is being looked at further by both insurance companies. Given the homeowner's lack of satisfaction we offered to refund the price of the maintenance agreement. He let us know that he felt that since we performed half of the service with our spring maintenance (aside from the condensate portion in his opinion) that he only wanted us to refund half of the agreement which we have done. We have tried to provide the customer with all the information we can in an effort to come to an understanding, this is not something we ran away from and ignored. We are very committed to customer satisfaction and proud of our A rating with Angie’s list and the BBB, and feel that we did give this customer and the situation the attention it deserved prior to the complaint being filed. We have always and will continue to always place a high value on customer satisfaction, and are very proud of our customer satisfaction ratings. Thanks again for taking the time to read our response.

The answering service is not very helpful and almost rude in how short they are in answering you. it was like i was bothering the lady to answer the phone, not just the one time, but all 3 times we called. The techs are nice and friendly when they come. We were told on this 3rd time calling them on Friday afternoon, that they could make it out on Monday afternoon. This is summer and hot!! The lady answering the phones said I could call back at 5pm and request an emergency service and that we would have to pay extra for that. She could not add our name to the list at 3pm. Doesn't seem fair when they have been here twice and have not fixed our problem.

Response from Arronco Comfort Air
When I first read this report without having any of the details from my team I was very taken back that this could have happened because of my teams commitment to customer satisfaction. I immediately dove in to get the rest of the details and found out these facts. We did go to the house on two different occasions. This home has two different systems, we made a repair on the outdoor section of one system on the first call, and then made a repair on the air handler for a completely different system on the 2nd call. The second call was ran on 7/11. We found a blower motor locked up and replaced it. Once this was replaced we found that the component that controls the blower was also bad. We did not have the part needed to replace this so we bypassed this part to make sure they had cooling until that part could be sourced. The homeowner decided to replace this part their selves, not sure where they got it. Apparently they attempted to replace the part on 7/20, 9 days after our last visit, and ran into some trouble. It was very hot that day and they called in around 3:15 and were became upset when we notified them we were full for that day, and filed this report the following day. If this had truly been an issue that was due to a lack of a proper repair on our part as the customer leads us to believe in their report, we certainly would have figured out a way to get out to their home asap and fixed the problem at no charge. It is our policy to prioritize any warranty or callback work ahead of other work, it is the right thing to do. But it would not have been fair to our other customers who were waiting inline to prioritize this call as it was an issue that the homeowner had caused their selves and had nothing to do with our workmanship. Having these details and with my current understanding of the situation I do not believe we are fairly represented in this report at all. This report very well could have been made because of some miss communication between household members, I am hoping that this is the case and the customer re-evaluates us based on having all the facts stated above. Our "A" rating with Angie's list is very important to us and our commitment to customer satisfaction is even more important and I hope this was just a misunderstanding from that is now cleared up with the member.

My experience with Arronco has been first class from the beginning. I needed a new furnace since my 20 year old one finally gave out. The salesman was very professional. He explained all my options and gave me an accurate cost estimate and tax benefits for each, without pushing one over the other. Basically, he gave me an education in the world of HVAC. I decided on a high efficiency unit. The crew arrived right on time and did a fantastic job of cleaning up after they were done. I highly recommend Arronco to all my friends. They are the class of the industry.

Their drillers hit an air pocket which put a lot of cracks in our home. I would not recommend them to anyone. Their sales people do not follow through with anything. The communication with the billing department is not great. We have been told it will be thousands of dollars to fix our home and they are only offering hundreds to repair the work on the outside. We are still fighting to get the work fixed. We do like the system but we did not like the outcome with our home.

Thank you for taking the time to read my response; unfortunately there was some damage done to the home by a subcontractor that we had used for a portion of the job. The subcontractor is properly insured and has been in contact with the member. Arronco has done all we can to try to facilitate the process; as we have been stuck in negotiations with the insurance company and the member. We are just as anxious as the member to bring resolution to the job because of our commitment to customer satisfaction as well as getting payment for the job that has been completed and we have been in constant communication regarding the situation. Unfortunately we have to deal with insurance companies to rectify circumstances which is causing delay with the communication at times. Sincerely, Vice President /General Manager Andrew M. Arronco came to my house to give me a Quote for a New Unit and they never, ever called me back. Guess they don't need the business. So, I went with Arlinghaus heating & air conditioning, they are the best !

The work was preceded by a home energy efficiency audit, which identified a significant air leakage rate for our house. Arronco's auditors identified the source of the leaks and recommend action to address them. I performed much of the leak plugging my self (foam board and foam spray at foundation level and wall between basement and crawlspace). Our heat pump was in the last couple years of its life (12 years old) and was oversized for the house. Review of operating life and heating efficiencies, we selected the geothermal option. I contracted Arronco to install the geothermal system, a new water heater (recommended by Arronco but not sold by them - I purchased from a local energy co-op), the return duct upstairs and the insulation over the ceiling. The first part of the work was the installation of the three wells (one day in August - Arronco has their own drilling equipment), followed by the installation of the lines to the house and the heat pump in mid September. The ductwork and insulation were completed about a week later. Now some notes about Arronco: They are highly professional and displayed a good consultancy ethic. I had a competing bid for more expensive 5T geothermal unit but was advised that the 3T was appropriate, as many HVAC systems have been oversized over the past several decades. This causes the systems to cycle on and off too much and hurts efficiency. They walked me through the process of KHP awards and tax credits and provided energy use and cost estimates for heat pump and geothermal options. They identified places to plug to prevent air leakage (which my son and I did ourselves) and appliances that could be operating inefficiently (we replaced a 17 year old water heater and a 20 year old freezer). Arronco was very considerate in how they performed the work in our home and exhibited good craft in their work. They left things neat after they left. One minor dig is that it sometimes seemed to take a while to get the next piece of work scheduled, but they appear to be victims of their success in this regard. They have put in some 400 of these in the region. I should note that they have also followed up several times to ask how the system is working, if it felt comfortable and if we had any questions or concerns. This has inspired additional confidence in dealing with them. I want to thank Jamie Clark, Donnie Draper and Nelson Henderson and the rest of the Arronco team for their excellent work on our system and their support in the arrangements. Thus far the system appears to be working well and we have a good comfort level. Energy savings should become apparent this winter.
Description of Work: Arronco installed a 3 ton geothermal heating and cooling system in my home. They also installed an air return duct to the second floor and placed insulation over a vaulted ceiling to help seal the space against airflow and provide additional heat insulation. The work was performed under a quote provided by Arronco. Arronco also performed a home energy efficiency audit, with recommendations for improvement, and assisted our participation in the Kentucky Home Performance program.

We are quite happy with it. They had to get us in their queue because they were pretty busy so they actually installed it when there was snow on the ground. They have a program where the first year is free and the next year is about $150 to inspect it and make sure it is running properly. We had two guys bid on it and they were both about the same price. Arronco was a little bigger outfit. Their crew drilled 5 200 foot wells in about 1 1/2 days. Then they had a crew that dug the trench so they had different crews. They also had the installer and ductwork guy. Each guy has done this a lot of times so it made the installation go pretty smooth. It was pretty cold in January and we were only without heat for about 8 hours one day. They send postcards to see how their people are doing. The price was basically the same as another company but it was going to take another company longer to do the work. It might have been a little bit more but it was not significant. The price was in line with what we expected. They called to let us know when they were coming so they were very responsive. They came when they said they would. They were very professional. They had a system set up in their showroom so we got to see it and how it ran. We wanted something that ran quietly and they were able to address that. We don’t even know when the fan comes on. It is amazing how quiet it is.
Description of Work: We used Arronco Comfort Air to install a geothermal system. They were out here last week to check the system.

They do good work. The service guys are great. They do the maintenance work and I never have any difficulty. The people who work in the store are wonderful. One of the guys came and redid the dryer vent to make it more efficient. I would use them in the future.
Description of Work: I use Arronco Comfort Air Inc. They installed the heating system in the house. I have a service contract with them. They come twice a year to do general maintenance. They will be coming today. I bought a heat pump six or eight years ago and they fixed it. I have been with them from past twenty years.
