I did not get the list from Adam for over two weeks even thought I was asked to sign every paper listing all my personal items a total of 411. I was told research would be done to know what the items were worth. Adam warned me that he did not think the Christmas items would sell very well in August. On the list of items each was described and there were spaces for the value of the item and what it would sell for as well as the commission for the auction company. On the day of the auction, people were walking throughout my house, even though we had an open house a week prior. My house was bid on and it was $30,000.00 less then what Paul had suggested. One of the bidders had another real estate person who said that was the going price for the area. Paul obviously did not know what my house was worth, so much for research. My antique mirror ( worth over $500.00) he sold for $25.00. When I asked him why he would sell that mirror for little money without conferring with me he said, I thought you just wanted to get rid of everything. I never said that especially with all my antiques. Based on the research that was supposed to happened, it never did. The original list was not used during the auction, only a yellow receipt was used indicating one or two items, which was not accurate since he "bundled" items together. Two pieces of Tumi luggage sold for $ 15.00. Of all my 411 items listed, 168 items were sold. I was told people were not buying, so he "bulked" items together, and sold them for practically nothing. So where are the rest of the 243 items ? Paul made 10% on the purchase price of my home, which the purchaser paid for. He was paid 10% on all personal property sold. He did not have an opening price point on any item, like the Tumi luggage, it was whatever the person wanted to bid. Even in a garage sale, the item is usually priced and then there is some negotiation, not at this auction. It was never told to me that the bidding would come from the bidder rather then having a opening price point. Paul even said " the only real item of value was the house. He said I make very little on personal Property" which means he really didn't care if he made $2.50 for an antique mirror, which if it had sold for $500.00 he would have paid $50.00 for that one item. Overall I feel cheated, lied to and ripped off on all my antique and personal property. Adam wrote a hand written note saying that I was satisfied with all the property sold. He asked me to sign it, but I never got a copy. That was done because Paul knew I was angry about what had happened. Paul uses Adam as his go between to keep the peace and make the owner happy. Paul does not respond to voice mail, and it took several days before he would return my phone calls. Paul Mik makes 10 % on the price that your house sells, that's a lot of money when you think what other Real Estate brokers make. It is to his advantage to "promise" things that he does not explain, like no opening price point on your personal property. I would been better off having a garage sale, rather then place them in the hands of Paul Mik. I would use extreme caution if you decide to use this Auction Company, fore warned is fore armed. Good Luck!
Description of Work: On Meeting Paul Mik with his son, Adam, I was told we would need to take an inventory of all personal property. The price of my home was discussed and according to Paul, my home was in the mid point range and would be easy to sell. I had to give Paul a check for $3750.00 for advertising. He would list all the personal items as well as show photos of the house. Which he did. He said to expect about 100 people to attend the auction. I spent two days working with Adam listing all my personal property. I had a lot of antiques, and many Oriental pieces. I had table linens, purses, evening, sequined, and Donney & Burke. A cherry Secretary, Cherry large book case, and a King size bed. A sofa and love seat and lamps. China service for twelve, Crystal wine glasses, Tumi Luggage. An antique Asian Mirror. and lots of Christmas items, Bauds bear collection, Oriental pictures made of stone from China. Lawn Chairs, pots, supports, garden equipment, shovels, rakes, tree trimmers and hand tools. Beatle albums, Frank Sinatra Albums, Show tunes, 45 records.

Response from US Auction Group
First and foremost, we did exactly what we were supposed to do for the member and we forewarned her that her personal property besides a few items weren't a lot or going to be valued at much during the auction(Her own statements reflect this). The auction WAS NOT absolute, she had the discretion to reject the final purchase price but she chose to sell. The amount paid for advertising was the cost for marketing the property properly and is designed to produce the highest yield. The Real Estate buyer came from OVER 190 miles away to purchase her home. Remember when you and your son denied access to your home to “…some younger man?” This was the buyers’ son looking evaluating the property for his parents, be glad they decided to come. The ‘real estate’ person she mentioned was actually an investor who works for Edmonton State Bank & he quit bidding on her home because we were at market value and he couldn’t make a profit at that retail level. I was upfront and honest with her about the personal property from the day her and I went through the sealed boxes in her garage. The items that sat for over three years were dusty, moldy and didn’t hold much value. I expressed this concern to her multiple times as she wanted to itemize her paperback books, common 45s, scented candles, common department store napkins and plastic napkin holder rings that she had lugged around from state to state. Her insistence to itemize the items she had is how her inventory sheet differs from the day of sale sheets. We grouped the itemized items together to get a bid on her dated, worn & unwanted items. The member conferred several times about how she dreaded packing boxes once again and to “sell it all.” She never mentioned her car that we sold -- She wasn't entirely truthful about the auction. The Altima that wasn’t cleaned & wreaked of smoke had broken glass in the trunk but it sold for $ 13,970.00 which based off their N.A.D.A report was more than her local dealership would’ve given her for trade in. She had a few pieces of vintage items but nothing was antique as she stated. Paul and I explained the difference several times to her during our initial meeting and stated a few of her items would bring fair value i.e. the Altima; Furniture; Glassware(She also mentioned this too). The Cyan styled bamboo mirror she mentioned is appraised at around $ 500.00 but those are new and without wear and mirror backing missing. Regardless of what the member stated, we do actually care about what an items sell for, it’s how we get paid. It’s only in our best interest when personal items bring their true potential. So yes, her statement is incorrect -- we really DO care if we make $ 50.00 as opposed to $ 2.50. The testimonial I wrote for her to sign didn’t have to be signed. It too, as the sales contract for her home didn’t have to be signed. We constantly updated her as the sale took place. We conferred with Chris(her son) who was out there on her behalf about items she thought held value before the auctioneer sold it to a buyer. Chris spoke with her and then to our staff intermittently throughout the sale and not at one time during the hours we sold did she express a desire or concern to stop. In closing, we did as she hired us to do. We sold the items she no longer wanted, marketed her home appropriately and conducted a successful auction. Her signatures on both the sales contract, the testimonial and her failure to provide an actual "Review you can trust" confirm our statements.

Description of Work: Such a Great over all experience when selling our mother's estate. Paul Mik and his staff at US Auction Group were very professional in their services that they provided to my siblings and myself. They had their inventory specialist come out and record, organize and market everything we were selling to include the house. Paul explained everything to us and made the over all process very pleasent. The advertising was excellent and we didn't have to pay anything up front only after the estate closed did we have to pay for the expenses. I would highly suggest this company to my closest friends and family when it comes to selling their property. We had actually contacted the other local company to do this auction first but, was told that my mother's house wouldn't bring much and we would have to basically spend alot of time and effort just getting it ready to sale. Their attitude and lack of professionalism pointed us into the right direction and I'm glad they did.
