electrician, handyman service, remodeling, siding, ceiling fans, doors
+ 4 moreOVERALL MY WIFE IS STILL A SOBING WRECK!!! He treated her like crap and he doesn't take "WOMEN" serious. No matter what you know, he will tell you that he's the professional and he knows his job. DOOR INSTALLATION--finished product shouldn't involve you looking through a 1 inch gap around the door. It's fitted wrong!! SHUTTERS--if you remove plastic anchors and they are BROKEN, replace them and keep the shutters from ripping off during a wind storm and damaging the siding causing MORE WORK!! CEILING FANS--if you don't have one in currently, the fixture must have a support to hold the extra weight of the fan. ANYONE CAN GOOGLE THIS!! If someone hangs one about your newborn baby, and he tells you its fine!! Don't believe him. You'd rather pay more money to PROPERLY HANG A CEILING FAN rather than paying for emergency surgery if the ceiling fan falls on your infant. PAY LAST---do not pay a dime up front. if they need supplies.....buy them and take that amount from the quoted price. Pay ONLY after the ENTIRE job is complete TO STANDARD!!! CONTRACT!!!-----write a contract and have the person sign it. If they aren't willing to be held accountable for, you may want to move on. The contract will clarify what you (the customer) demand of the worker. The worker signs it if they have complete knowledge and understanding of what they are required to be PAID!!
Description of Work: I am deployed to Afghanistan and my wife hired Richard "Todd" Hines of Handyman Services of Bowling Green, 134 Clearview Drive, Bowling Green, KY, 42101, (H) 270-796-2877 or (C) 270-779-1446. I was against her hiring him but he quoted her a price for the job that was 1/3 of what I was expecting a licensed and insured contractor to charge. He told her "I'm licensed and insured and my insurance will pay to replace your entire house if the job isn't done right." I was still skeptical because of his low-ball offer, but she hired him. He never produced his license number/proof of license or his insurance when she asked. He was hired to install three ceiling fans, one kitchen light fixture, and front and rear entry doors, and he was hired to pressure watch the exterior and paint shutters. He advised my wife that the job would take 2-3 days total and would cost $150 to install the fixtures and fans, and the door removal & installation/painting door/painting shutters/pressure washing house would be $720. My wife was advised he would begin the job at 7am the first day but he did not show up. After 3 phone calls to his voice mail that morning, he returned her call at about 1pm stating that another Priority Job had come up at the Mall. He told her it would be a week before he could come out. She rescheduled the date and time with him. The new date and time arrived and he was a no show again. She again called over and over leaving messages on voice mail. He showed up 3 hours late and installed the fixtures and fans. My wife asked him if he installed the supports for the fans in the 2 rooms (they only had light fixtures and the fixtures are not made to support a fan) but he stated "They don't need them becuase the fans don't weigh much." Under my direction she contacted another contractor for a "second opinion" and he told her he'd come look at them. Mr Hines had installed the ceiling fans and anchored them only into the ceiling drywall. The fan wasn't anchored into a solid frame or the ceiling studs. He never repaired this mistake. He advised my wife he'd be back the next day to do the doors. NO SHOW!! She finally got in phone contact with him 4 days later and he said "something came up" but he'd be back in the morning. I told my wife that if the temperature and humidity were too high, the painting would be ineffective. Mr. Hines showed up the next morning, and he and his crew worked on the tasks. At the end of the day they had "roughed in" both doors and cleaned the exterior. The shutters were painted in 100+ degree heat and over 95% humidity. My wife asked Mr. Hines about the painting and he advised her that the temp and humidity didn't have anything to do with painting. He said, "It's sunny and that's all we need". The paint didn't dry and my wife found fingerprints on the doors from where they'd touched it to see if it was dry. At the end of the day, the front and rear doors were hung, but he didn't attach the hardware so my wife and newborn were unable to secure the house. Mr. Hines arrived 6 hours late the next day and told my wife "we should be out of here in 30 minutes". My wife asked him why there was a 1 inch gap around the door, and he told her that she just needed to caulk the space and paint it. She told him, "NO! You need to finish your job. It's not my job to paint it or caulk anything." She also noticed the paint did not adhere to areas of the door because caulk had been dripped on the door and wiped off. Mr. Hines told my wife he'd leave touch up paint so she could paint the areas that the paint "ran from the high heats." She replied to him, "I thought the heat doesn't affect the paint?" and he didn't respond. After a month of requests to finish his job, he has not finished. My wife asked for his insurance and license information but he refused to give his license number. He gave her a letterhead with his business information on it. CENTURION CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, LLC HANDYMAN SERVICES OF BOWLING GREEN 134 CLEARVIEW DRIVE BOWLING GREEN, KY 42101 HOME: 270-796-2877 CELL: 270-779-1446 Centurion also has a PO BOX listed: PO Box 70213 Bowling Green, KY 42102 My wife and I each contacted his insurance company (Insurers of Kentucky, INC; Agent: Paulette McKinney 270-842-0304) and they advised he had LIABILITY INSURANCE ONLY. Paulette advised that the insurance would only cover accidents while performing his work, and it didn't cover faulty workmanship or incomplete jobs. She said we would have to file a lawsuit in small claims court. SO!! My wife went online and found other people who hired Todd Hines (he goes by todd but his name is Richard Todd Hines) and they were "TAKEN" by him too. IF HE SHOWS UP SOBER!! HE MAY DO SOME WORK!! If you pay him before ALL THE WORK IS DONE completely and TO CODE!!!....you'll be very lucky if he returns. Several contractors that I've hired to complete the jobs that he didn't have told me they have workded correcting his jobs several times. DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN!! DO NOT THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY!!! Sincerely, Erik M.
