Pat was honest with me about what it would take to fix this problem. I have some mechanical knowledge and could not figure out what was causing the problem, but he was able to find the problem and give me an honest report of what it would cost to fix. I was afraid it might be more than the value of the mower itself due to its age. He agreed with me on this, plus informed me that the mower's engine was no longer made and parts would be hard to find. The labor required to do the repair (if parts could be located) would involve a complete engine tear down. I agreed with him that this was not worth the money; he charged me $10 for the service, and disposed of the mower for me. He did not even mention to me the purchase of a new mower from him (although I considered it, he didn't have a small push type power motor available, and I had already decided to get a Cub Cadet based on a Consumer Reports rating).
