Reed has apparently changed the business name to "Vision Construction". You can make your own judgment as to why the name change would occur after a suit would show up under the Reed Construction name. I will be more than happy to give all of the specific details to anyone who wants them more thoroughly. My # is in the book. Pat Reed is now a school bus driver for what it's worth, at least I believe he still is.
Description of Work: Suit filed against this contractor. Person I dealt with was Brian "Pat" Reed. Upon request by the contractor I paid $2,950 specifically requested for parts/materials, after I had paid $3,800 for labor. Those parts and materials were not provided and the $2,950 was not returned to me. The workmanship even down to the paints was very subpar. My cost to repair the poor workmanship alone was 1,500. Since much of the labor and almost of the materials were never provided my cost to have the job completed correctly was nearly the same as what I paid to Reed. Reed refused to finish the job unless I paid him more $ directly to him personally. I made the mistake of thinking this was a reputable person. That trust led me to do what amounted to foolish things based on trust.

I am happy to answer any questions about this contractor. I am in the book. See the review under Reed Construction for details. Briefly, very poor workmanship. Money provided to Reed for materials was never used to buy materials to my knowledge and the $$ was not returned to us. 3,800 was paid for labor that for the most part was poorly done {what labor was done}. I thought that I knew/know this person and I thought I could trust him so I gave him $$ I never should have given him. Suit filed against Reed for return of the $$ we lost. Cost to repair shoddy work was 1,500 and the additional costs to have job completed were nearly what we had paid Reed. Our loss is in the 8,000 range. He is now a school bus driver. The person I dealt with was Pat "Brian" Reed. The # listed for Chris Reed, to my knowledge is actually Pat Reeds to my knowledge. I am not aware if Chris Reed was involved in the matter of the materials money that was not used for materials and not returned to us. That may have been only Brian "Pat" Reed himself. I have several photos that reflect the poor work quality. I will provide those as well and as soon as posting to my web site and Facebook page once up. To give you an idea about Brian "Pat" Reed perhaps this will tell you something. After Reed became employed as a bus driver, which was shortly after this event, he failed to tell the school about the conflict of interest due to the suit against him and showed up {brazenly, in my opinion} at My home driving My resident dependent under 10 years of age grandchildren on that bus, expected to be in full control and care of them for that time period, despite being sued by us. And yes he knew they lived here. The school agreed {obviously} he should have informed them of this. Though I had already spoken with the State Board of Education rep who agreed I could have him removed and he could not be in the control of those kids, arrangements were made to put the kids on another bus with the cooperation of the school, and I did not have to involve the state.
Description of Work: This provided is the same as Reed Construction. Has apparently changed business name to Vision Construction after suit filed under name of Reed Construction. So you can find the same review under Reed Construction.

Installed stairs with little apparent knowledge of finishing touches, imagination, or simple thought required for professional job and little knowledge of proper use of poly polyurethane techniques. Despite promising to do so failed to varnish prior to installation on these steps that we needed to walk from floor to floor. Misread or misunderstood that product could be walked on after an hour. Stated one coat would be sufficient when common knowledge is that results in rough uneven look. I finished process myself with proper coating and light sanding after departure to assure it would be done properly. Did not know how to finish top cap. I did this myself. Reed was going to finish front edge of side fascia with stain over cut wood which would have caused horrible finish look. Used finish strip only after I told him what to use. Left us with several nails poking thru side fascia which I had to correct. Failed to use tarps in doorways to prevent saw dust from getting all over house. We had to do this ourselves when we saw they were using saws and allowing dust to fly all over. Did same thing cutting in our garage which caused us to have to clear out and clean entire garage. Cut bottom step too thick and door would not close. Had to have them return to fix this after they were leaving the site. I had to countersink several nail heads they left exposed on stair treads. They posted this as finish work on their facebook page, but you can not see the quality of the poly work or the other poor quality. Note the top cap that is not in those photos and the finish strips on the side that only happened at my instruction. They also were going to leave the top of the side fascia uncut so it faced up at a point until I instructed otherwise. They also did not install the finish piece at the top over the drywall. I did that after they left it blank and before they took the photos. I still also need to correct the fact that they did not back cut the side toe strip into a last 45degree angle so it looked finish atop the side fascia. Foolish though it was after they did this I allowed them to do other work at a rental site because it was simple work that any unskilled laborer could have done, and I was in a serious time crunch, that resulted in us having to sue them. That is to be covered in a separate complaint as my time allows. An unfortunate way to learn that once you have a problem with a 'contractor", you should run fast. Though this Reed Construction site shows Chris Reed as the person in charge, from my experience it was Brian "Pat" Reed who handled the details and appeared to be in charge. The phone listed is always answered by him as well. Reed Construction may also have now changed their name to Vision Construction based on what I saw at a job site and a sign change on a work truck. I do not know if they are still working together or if they are now two separate businesses.
Description of Work: Installed hardwood stairs to replace carpeted stairs.
