ROD'S HOME IMPROVEMENTS-RODNEY BARNES

Rod and his wife Teresa came out when I called them on one of my unexpected days off-snow related. They squeezed us in as their last appointment of the day to help us out. They were warm and personable. It was like having family come over to help you repair something. Rod shook our hands before leaving and Teresa hugged me. The work was completed efficiently and with a careful eye to detail. The cost was most reasonable. The couple was honest and trustworthy. We will most definitely call them again. What a great experience this was!

I needed this job done a.s.a.p. and he responded immediately and did the instalation the next day. Other companies took their time to get back to me. His price was reasonable and the work was just what we needed.

The service went very well. One technician came out and completed the job in about 1 hour. He did a fine job. I did not interact with him too much. They not only replaced the board but also put an aluminum sheet over the area. I thought the pricing was reasonable. I had no problem scheduling the service.

Rod is professional, talented, and pays attention to details. He is the finest home improvement specialist I've ever worked with. The added bonus is that he's a genuinely nice man and a pleasure to have in my home. I have another project coming up soon, and the only contractor I want to do the work is Rod. A+ in every way.

Rod and his wife came out to estimate several projects. They then provided an estimate for the work. Then we scheduled. Then Rod and his assistant came and completed the work over two days. Other contractors gave us higher bids for the work and didn't have the kinds of solution-oriented recommendations that Rod did. For the support beam end posts that were getting water damage, most others said to cut them off (i.e., ruin the aesthetic of the cabin). Rodney suggested wrapping them with copper to preserve the posts and to maintain aesthetic and value of the home. We have used various handyman services that were ranked high on Angie's List. Some did good work, others we had issue with, all were expensive. Rodney Barnes is the first one we've found who has transparent and fair pricing. Job was supposed to finish in one day, it took two, price didn't change. Rodney has tons and tons of skills and experience with all aspects of home remodel, maintenance and improvement. He and his team are professional. Rod's Home Improvement will be our first choice for future projects such as flooring, bathroom remodels and general maintenance.

I hired Rod last summer (2013) for a smaller bathroom remodel. Rod and his wife Theresa came out to the house for an estimate. It took some time and a few phone calls later to finally receive the estimate. Rod and his partner did a great job on the bathroom and I was very pleased. This year I decided to remodel another larger bathroom in my house. I called Rod?s wife to set up an appointment for an estimate. It was very difficult to get in touch with his wife to set up an appointment. Multiple calls were made however this may be partly to my work schedule as well. Rod and his wife came out to my house. Rod had great ideas for the bathroom and I was excited to receive the estimate. I never received an estimate. After about a month, his wife called and left a message stating that Rod was still interested in the project and they would get the estimate to me shortly. She even said that they didn?t forget about me. That call was made on July 4th. It?s now been over a month. I rated Rod a B only because of the difficulties getting in touch with his wife Theresa and receiving the estimate. I was very disappointed on the communication, especially since I had used him before.

Everything went great! On time, professional and does business with a handshake!

I could not have asked for a more responsive contractor. His work was exceptional.

Last spring, Rodney and his crew put down a new floor in my kitchen. About a week ago, I noticed a couple gaps in the wood in a well-traveled area and one piece was starting to lift up. I left a message for Rodney and Teresa over the weekend. They called me back on Monday and it was fixed on Wednesday! The crew replaced one of the boards, made a few adjustments, and it looks good as new. They did not charge me for the repair and I appreciate the fact that they stand behind their work.

Rod did a great job and we would definitely work with him again. I highly recommend him.

It went great. My wife and I started out by calling contractors through Angie's List to get quotes for our bathroom remodel. Rodney and his wife Teresa showed up to our home and offered up way more suggestions than any other contractor. They suggested the following things which were not on my contractors list to remodel; relocating the exhaust fan closer to the shower, installing a new tub (we were going to keep the existing tub) , new exhaust fan, 2 new soap boxes instead of corner shelving, and installing a glass block window instead of a standard window replacement which would have to be special ordered due to privacy glass (2-4 week wait). After all this, Rodney's Home Improvement was still closely in line with other contractors bids. We really chose him because of all the recommendations he and his wife proposed. All remodeling took place over a weeks time. Rodney and his helper Jerry showed up every day on time, they laid out cloth tarp throughout the house every day to protect our hardwood floors, kept the toilet in place as this bathroom was our only one in the house, (I fabricated a makeshift shower until all remodeling was complete and grout sealer was dry). Rodney and Jerry worked really hard throughout the entire remodel. There were times when things did not go as planned and they both worked through lunch a few days to stay on schedule. Rodney and Jerry were professional, courteous and hardworking. My wife and I provided the tub, vanity, sink, shower fixtures, and all tile. Rodney provided the rest. He even picked up the tub for us waiting at the home improvement store. After every day of work Rodney and Jerry cleaned up and let us know what time they would be arriving the next day. Rodney and Jerry removed the walls surrounding the shower and the wall behind the sink and toilet, replaced all shower walls with Durock cement board, installed a plastic vapor barrier, had a great looking glass block window installed w/vent, installed brand new tub, installed a Delta one handle shower fixture (with Scald Protection), new tub spout and shower head, tore out old exhaust fan above the sink, patched hole and relocated and replaced it with a larger exhaust fan with light next to shower area, installed tile inside shower area all the way to ceiling, installed tile behind toilet and sink, fabricated 2 inside-the-shower boxes for soap, shampoo and other shower accessories, installed new laminate flooring that matched up great, installed new vanity and sink. Our bathroom looks fantastic. I want to thank Rodney and Jerry for their hard work and would like to thank his wife Teresa for her "behind the scenes" hard work. No need for me to type any more ..... I will let the pictures before and after do the talking. I myself resanded the walls, painted and sealed the grout in the shower, installed the new baseboards and painted the bathroom. Tried to keep the costs at a minimum while still getting a great looking bathroom. The bathroom is the difference between night and day. I have already given Rodney's information to my neighbor and will definitely call him for other projects/remodels in the future.

Rod and Teresa came to work up the estimate personally; they were very friendly, polite, and also tried to match our non-standard size cabinets with salvaged cabinets that could be re-used. When this type of search was unsuccessful, they worked with us in making recommendations for good deals on new cabinets and countertop. The only "complaint" I had was the length of time it took to hear back from them, but I later realized they were trying to be thorough and get us the best quality to be had for the price. They were very accommodating in working around our work schedules, and kept the kitchen extremely neat by cleaning up after themselves. When we learned that the new countertop manufacturer couldn't install until 10 days after Rod finished his work-- he even put a temporary plywood countertop in place for us, and reconnected the sink so we wouldn't have to wait another 10 days to cook or wash dishes ;-) They did such a great job, I'd recommend them without hesitation, and will definitely use them for more jobs as soon as our budget allows.

NEVER GOT A QUOTE!! Very nice and quirky husband and wife team spent almost an hour talking with me, taking measurements, coming up with lots of ideas. I was excited about them given that he seemed to genuinely care about making things work within my budget. I asked him when I could expect a quote and he said within the next three days. One week later, I emailed them asking for a quote. TWO days after that, I got a reply saying they were busy but I'd have a quote first thing the next morning. The next morning, I got nothing and later that evening, they emailed me saying by noon the NEXT day, I'd have a quote. After emailing them (after noon of course), they came back saying I'll have a quote the next day. Then, after THREE days of nothing, I told them not to bother. How could you work with someone who not only can't get a quote to you but also can't keep any promises on punctuality?! I give a C for them including a defensive apology but really unprofessional overall.

This is an excellent Handyman. We made an appointment for estimate and measurements to be made - they called to confirm, called on their way, and arrived right on time. Written estimate was emailed promptly and was reasonable pricing. Rod also added his own ideas, not trying to unreasonably upsell the work. One project involved matching 17 year old interior faux-style painting. Another Handyman said no to the work - Rod agreed to do it and made 3 trips to get it right, including working with the local Sherwin Williams experts to figure out how to match it. End result is excellent. For my door problems, Rod figured out reasonable, cost-effective solutions without getting overly involved trying to replace everything. He is respectful, punctual, professional, focussed on attention to detail and very thorough. We will be hiring him from now on for any services we need that he can do.

Rod was on time, quote was reasonable and ,even though Rod had to make modifications due to manufacturer's poor design, he did so, including a trip to Home Depot. He didn't ask for anymore money, butI did pay him extra.

We were very happy with the results. They were quick to give an estimate and start work. They were efficent and professional, and left everything clean each day. The cost was very reasonable and the job was finished in a timely manner. I would definately hire this company again.

Dale Ayers was the technician. Dale not only did a great job, but he was very professional and quite pleasant. We are delighted with the results and would definitely return to this company for any future home improvements needed. Thanks again Dale!

Rodney and his crew were great. They were patient while we waited 3 weeks for our insurance company to review the damage. The job started out as a simple leaky window repair then blossomed into a major rehab job due to damage found when the siding was removed. Rodney and his crew worked 7 days a week, long hours, in 90 degree weather while battling thunderstorms in order to meet our deadline. The whole crew was very professional and became part of our family for 3 weeks. They were very conscientious of our 4 dogs and made sure the gates were closed at all times. They even laid down a temporary deck while removing part of our old deck so that we could take the dogs out that way instead of leashing them and walking them around the house every time. The crew cleaned up pretty well every night to make sure their were no injuries to our family and dogs. Rodney went out of his way to come back to the house after dinner on a couple of occasions to ensure safety issues did not arise due to an electrical mishap. We are very pleased with Rodney, his crew, and his subcontractors that were brought in due to the enormity of the repair. We will keep his card on our refrigerator and contact him for every repair needed on our house no matter how big or small. I also have to say thanks to Rodney and Theresa for providing us with a detailed, itemized list of all materials and labor costs on the final bill.

I hired Rodney to remodel my bathroom. He had a contractor to work on this job for him since he was in the middle of another job and we needed to have this done during a certain timeframe. Keep in mind we only had one bathroom and shower in our home. For two weeks we had a porta potty in our front yard and 4 weeks we had to go to my father-in-law's home to take a shower. This was the most stressful time and remodel we have ever gone through. I had a problem with my floor bubbling up after the remodel and Rodney came right over and fixed it for me. We have used him a couple of times other then this bathroom remodel and each time he has done a really good job. I would never do another bathroom remodel but would call Rodney for any problems I have. With some give and take by both Rodney and I the bathroom turned out beautiful. I ended up painting living room walls and ceiling, replacing a window and crown molding to the living room and having the carpets cleaned in the home after all was done. in addition we had purchased some new furniture before we setup the remodel and had put a hold on the delivery while all this work was going on. I am thankful that it was over and done when it ended.

The work was good, but the communication was not.

Appreciated call to let me know they were running late. I thought the estimate was way too high considering I was providing the paint and the rooms were small. They told me they would get back to me in 3 to 4 days with estimate. I had to call them. Since she asked me for my email address I was expecting to receive my estimate via email but she gave it to me verbally over the phone. I guess she could tell in my hesitation that it was more than I was willing to pay so she said that also includes fixing the nail pops. Seriously, not that hard to fix or time consuming. I asked then for just a bid to do the ceilings and I never heard from them since. Since I read on Angie's list that they also do remodeling, they also took measurements to finish a bedroom and bathroom in the basement. I never did receive an estimate on that project. Just as well as I wasn't comfortable with their suggestions or ability to follow through on what I wanted to accomplish. Rod's wife accompanied him and took notes on measurements, sketches, etc. I appreciate the fact that she was trying to learn the business but felt that she should discuss her questions with Rod after they left the homeowner as to not waste the homeowner's time. I will say that were were very personable. Rod received good reviews on Angie's list and I'm sure he would of done a fine job on painting but I couldn't justify the costs. Apparently, he wasn't interested in doing the small job of painting 2 ceilings but rather is looking for higher paying jobs.

We spent a lot of money. We did like them. They were very professional and they did a good job. The quality of their work was very good. We would use them in the future.

Did an excellent job installing the flooring. Made good suggestions on proper flooring to use in this 3 season room where temp can get quite low during winter, although not freezing, and where pets spend some time. Rod was very timely and dependable - and quite friendly. I would certainly use him again for any improvement project.

After having tried two other contractors, Rod has overdelivered. Teresa responded to my e-mail inquiry extremely quickly, and they were very accomodating in finding a time to come out and quote the job. I love that they do this together - my parents ran a small business when i was young and I really respect that! I was really impressed with their knowledge of my project, and the fact that they brought sample boards so I could choose a new color for the floor right away. Rod mentioned that he had just put together the exact same IKEA sink for another job and told me he'd put it together for me, and that sold me immediately! I had planned to do it myself, so this was a big help. Once they came to the house, it did take a couple of days to get the actual quote, but once it did, I sent them a check right away to order the floor. Then it was only a couple weeks until they got me on the schedule to do the work. On the day of the install, Rod came with two other guys and they got right to work. They were on time, and Teresa even called to tell me they were on the way, which I really appreciated. They were respectful of my house and of me, and they worked consistently all day. Rod even noticed a couple other things that needed to be fixed and took care of them while he was there too, including replacing a part on our storm door and fixing the shut-off valve for our toilet. Throughout the project, they ran to Home Depot as needed and I didn't have to worry about a thing. I loved it! At the end of the day, the project is beautiful, very well done, and I absolutely love my new bathroom. AND, they meticulously cleaned up. I did not have to wipe down after them, scrub anything or even sweep the floor. I couldn't have asked for more! I'm already planning to send a list of the next projects I need help with. Thanks Rod, Teresa, Michael and Michael Jr! disappearing. But, hopefully,
