From day one Brad kept us up to date on what was being done, and when the next phase would start. We had weather delays that would have been a problem with other contractors, but not Brad. He told us when the work would be rescheduled and it was done. We had a problem with a small leak around one of the windows and he had his people there within a couple of days (we are 150 miles away from his office.) Brad understood our problems and resolved them. We could NOT be happier.
Description of Work: Our church, First Baptist Church of Fort Scott, KS, suffered severe hail damage in 2013. Our insurance company gave us a list of contractors that could do our repairs and do them in a timely manner. After checking references we decided to use Sunflower State Exteriors. Brad Herndon returned our call shortly after we called his office to set up a time to meet and plan a course of action. Using Brad meant we only had one contractor to go to with questions. He handled everything. From roofing to siding to windows and screens he did them in a very professional manner. We also had two awnings that need be replaced and Brad called the company we had used and they worked with Brad to remove and replace these awnings and work around the time schedules of window worker.

They had a good bid and it was very similar to the other one. They quoted little bit less than the company we went with did but that company was offering more. They quoted around $5200. They were very good and very prompt. They were a little low on their responsiveness because I had a couple of questions and it took them a while to get back with me on those. We may consider them for siding because of their pricing on siding.
Description of Work: We got a bid from Sunflower State Exteriors LLC for roofing and gutters.

After scheduling for the roof to be replaced, it was expected to be 3-4 weeks before they began. 2 weeks later, with no phone call or notice, a dumpster shows up in our driveway, and early the next morning, the crews begin ripping off the old roof (which was an inconvenient time due to out of town guests expecting a peaceful morning). The roofing goes well and they complete it quickly, except where the flat roof joins the angle roof. This was left undone for a week, in which time it rained, and leaked through the ceiling, causing damage. We specifically went with a higher quality (and priced) company to prevent this from happening. To their credit, they did fix the interior, and did patch the exterior flat roof. Although, it did leak again after they fixed it. The third time, it was done well enough to prevent leaks, and they did fix the interior again. Several months later, there was some damage to the eave by the chimney where water was rolling over the edge. They did come out and add a lip, re-seal and replaced the damaged area. This company did stand behind their work, so I give them credit for that - it was just additional stress and time wasted. We though we had paid for quality the first time through, and the parts that didn't leak were well done. This is our first roof being replaced, so maybe this happens to everyone. Half a year later, we are happy with the end result. We wouldn't use them again just because of what we went through. If we would of had a simpler roof, I'm sure things would have went fine and we would have given a higher rating.
Description of Work: Replaced roof with 50yr shingles. Added gutter guards to all gutters. Added a small stretch of guttering. Part of our roof was flat and needed special attention to join to the angled roof. This was why we went with a more expensive, more established company.

Unlike the first time that we had Sunflower come out and replace our roof, they were much harder to get a hold of this time and not nearly as easy to work with. As part of the repair, we wanted a quote on having several minor pieces of siding replaced, all of our windows replaced, and an attic fan to be put in along with soffit vents. After several communication attempts, Sunflower finally came out. We walked around the house and said they could do the work and would promptly get us a quote. Over a week later the quote arrived but only included windows, and not even the ones we had requested. The quote did not include the attic fan, soffit vents, or siding. I had to make yet another call to get the quote for the leak repair. Needless to say, over a month later, we still don't have a quote for the windows we had requested, vents, siding, or fan. As for the hole and trim, it was repaired, however, not as the representative had stated. He originally stated that they would be replacing the piece of trim with a piece of Trex material that would look identical to the cedar trim but would keep from rotting over time. However, once the job was completed, we received another piece of cedar and an odd patch job of the hole with a missing piece of small siding. The cost for what was done was rather high for 30 minutes of work. Two people were sent to do the job of one person and when I tried to converse with one of them while he was waiting on our porch for his buddy to arrive, he only smiled and "no English". At one point I would have recommended them second to none, and actually did many times, however, their service has really slid in a year and a half and I would highly recommend that you look elsewhere for timely service and more reasonably priced products. One would have thought after spending more than $12,000 with them for a high-end roof plus several referrals that we sent their way through Angie's List and word of mouth that they would take better care of their customers.
Description of Work: This was a follow up call for a possible leak in the roof. It ended up being a hole in the siding that needed to be patched and having a piece of trim replaced. Requested quote for additional work to be done: all windows replaced, soffit vents and attic fan added, and some minor siding pieces replaced.

Much better than anticipated. In fact, when we wanted to go from a shake roof to a 50 year roof for approximately $4,000 less, Willard showed us the difference in quality to what we were looking at versus what he had to offer. What he recommended not only will save us money in the long run, but we retained the value of our shake, the deep textures and three dimensional look provides an outstanding curb appeal. Sunflower is a company that I would highly recommend.
Description of Work: Willard assessed our shake roof for replacement and recommended an outstanding product that came with a lifetime warranty and looked as good if not better than shake. The company also replaced our guttering and skylight. Overall, it only took 3 days and the crew did a great job of cleaning up each day. Willard was very professional in not only dress but with attitude and handled all of our concerns completely. When I did have a concern, Willard was easy to get a hold of.
