My wife purchased a refrigerator from this store for our household use, as our refrigerator compressor seems to be going out. Here is her narrative: I purchased a large appliance from this company. The first time I went in the store the woman in the store, Chris, steered me to a particular refrigerator. And the second time I went in to the store a different person, Ricky, also steered me to that same refrigerator. I wish I had realized this might mean they really wanted to get rid of this particular refrigerator. Unfortunately I purchased the refrigerator. They were nice to me until after the refrigerator entered my doorway. While Ricky, the son of the store owner, was bringing the refrigerator in my doorway I noticed it had a large dent in the side positioned at the bottom back corner (where I could not see it while it had been in the store) & I mentioned it to him. He ignored me as if I had not said anything at all. He just proceeded directly to my kitchen where he placed the refrigerator. I again told him there was a large dent in the fridge. And then I looked at the other side of the fridge near the back and there was another dent in the other side also! When I said there was a dent in the other side also he again ignored me. Although, he did go over to my old refrigerator and open the door & look inside without my permission. It was as if he thought he could do what he wanted in my home. He was nosy & intrusive! It was so shocking that I didn't say anything. It was so bizarre I had no words. I told him I did not like the look of the refrigerator with the dents in it, and since that entire side was open to the rest of the living area of my house I said they should give me a further discount such as $75 due to the dent. He said he'd have to call his mom, and, instead of using my phone which was right in front of him, he proceeded to walk all the way through my living room and out of my house. (Of course I should have realized this would mean not wanting me to hear the phone call). He said they could mail me a check the next week for $50. Since I needed a refrigerator badly (mine might not last the night) I was desperate. He left. After my husband came home he looked at the fridge they delivered and saw the copper pipe leading out of the compressor was totally covered with ice. And this was not a little bit of ice. And it was not just frost. It was solid ice. I called a friend who was a repairman who told me that meant there was a problem with the fridge and it's sealed system. He said if it was him he would call them and tell them to get that fridge out of my house immediately and insist on a full refund. So the next morning I called the JotEmDown shop and told them of the ice problem. Chris, the mother of the man who delivered the fridge, & evidently a business co-owner, told me it was probably the humidity! And this while the refrigerator had been in my centrally air-conditioned home overnight! I learned from my friend the repairman that I should not accept this problem with the fridge, otherwise I might have believed what this woman was telling me. But my friend assured me she was lying. I asked her to come get the fridge. She told me it would not be possible for them to come get the fridge for several days, even though my house is less than 5 miles from their shop. I told her I was going to charge a storage fee each day until the fridge was picked up. She told me I was being "ridiculous" and hung up on me. By noon 3 days later the fridge was still sitting where they delivered it waiting for them to pick it up. And my old fridge was sitting in my kitchen also waiting for their fridge to be moved so I could put mine back. I had no room! They had still not told me what time they would come pick up the fridge. I called again. This time she assured me her son Ricky would come pick up the fridge. And she assured me I would get a full refund to my credit card even though she said store policy is "no refunds." Odd how they had not told me there were "no refunds" prior to my purchasing the fridge. (now that I think about it, this should have been expected behavior from them). Chris also now suddenly told me there is a "restocking fee" for returning a refrigerator. They had not said anything about this up until that day. She also told me I could have just taken the fridge outside if I hadn't liked keeping it in my kitchen all those days. (there is no way I can move a great big refrigerator! I don't have an appliance dolly like they have. And why didn't she tell me the first time I phoned to put it outside. She seemed to want to make me take the blame for their inconveniencing me. Had I moved the fridge outside like she was now suggesting, it would have been exposed to the weather. And what would she have then said about that? Ricky showed up to get the fridge and another man was with him. This man told me he was Frank the owner of the store. Ricky put the fridge on the appliance dolly and held it still while a bunch of water poured out of it onto my kitchen floor. The man who was with him seemed to be walking around in the attempt to get me to think he was in poor shape as if this was a way to obtain pity. Ricky told me they would "sell the fridge to someone else." I told him I felt sorry for that person because that refrigerator has several problems. He made a cutting remark to me. In my thoughts I could not believe they would do something so mean to someone. Finally Ricky took the fridge out of my house. The truck had what must have been an automatic lift on the tailgate. After the fridge was loaded on the truck the older man stood by the opposite side of the truck, where the fridge would not block the view out my front window & he leaned on the truck as if he just could hardly move. I guess this was again to try & get pity from me, probably because I said I was going to charge for storage. When they finally left I sat down to catch my breath. It had been a nightmare having to walk between refrigerators for 3 days and having to deal with them. Eventually I decided I'd better get down on the floor and wipe up the water Ricky spilled. It was then that I discovered a tear in my inlaid kitchen floor right where their fridge had been. Their fridge had been so low to the floor that the metal sides of it sat right against my kitchen floor (my older fridge had feet to raise & lower it and heavy-duty protective rollers as well), so when he moved it forward this tear must have occurred from the back wall of the fridge scraping the floor. Having to talk to them again was the last thing I wanted to do. But I needed to have my floor fixed. There was absolutely no tear there prior to this fridge. I called the Jot-Em Down shop. Chris answered the phone. I told her I was sorry to have to report this, but there is now a tear in my kitchen floor. She said they aren't responsible for damages and hung up. I am VERY dissatisfied with Jot-Em Down store and the owners. This woman was very rude to me several times - all after I purchased the refrigerator of course. And they did not tell me of the damage to the appliance which was impossible for me to see in the store. They also did not tell me of other fees they might charge. And they delivered a fridge to me which was not in proper working order. And they did not tell me the truth about the problem I discovered after it arrived. They were cruel to leave this refrigerator sitting in my small 8 foot wide kitchen for several days. They did not care about the inconvenience to me and my family. My house is less than 5 miles from their shop, but they would not come remove this fridge. They also were unwilling to face up to the damage done to my floor. I will have to seek a remedy. I would not advise anyone to go to this store. I don't trust them at all. The laughing attitude toward my concerns when I phoned them was despicable. They are unprofessional to say the least. The merchandise was in poor condition in parts of it I could not see in the store, and I was not told of defects that rendered it not in proper working order. The bizarre behavior of the son of the owners when he came into my home is very concerning to me. I am very sorry I ever stopped to look in this shop.
Description of Work: My wife purchased a used refrigerator from them for our own kitchen. She said she was able to see only the front and inside of the appliance in the store. She could not see the sides nor the back, nor was aware the mechanical area of the refrigerator had not been cleaned while in their care. If I was selling a used appliance to someone I certainly would clean out the huge pieces of filth. They sold us a refrigerator and since we live within 5 miles of their shop my wife requested free delivery be included, and received it. After the refrigerator was delivered it was found to be damaged and abused and was not in proper working order. My wife requested a refund and quick removal of their refrigerator so we could return our own refrigerator back to its spot. They left the refrigerator sitting in our kitchen for 3, nearly 4 days, making it impossible for us to purchase a different refrigerator, and making it extremely difficult for our family to walk through the house.

My experience was great
Description of Work: I recently had a great experience with Jot Em Down. I was recently laid off, had to move to a rental house with no appliances. I was on tight budget, and my grandmother told me to go to Jot Em Down store. I had never heard of the place before then. When I got there the lady that worked there was so nice and friendly, she made my experience go smooth. I was able to get a nice looking refrigerator and an electric stove for $350 and that included delivery. I was soo worried about buying used appliances, but these were very clean, and the service I received made me feel very comforting. It has been a month and I have not had any problems what so ever, but today the lady (I believe she is the owner) gave me a follow up call to see how things were going. I thought that was incredible, and that is the reason I am actually writting this review today. I would highly recommend Jot Em Down to anyone else needing some appliances on a tight budget.
