Our realtor called when the work was done and said that her "jaw dropped" when she was given the invoice. She noted that they insisted on payment before agreeing to come out, so she left her credit card number with them. She also asked the plumber to call if work was going to be more extensive than what was noted on the inspection. (We were expecting a bill of about $350.) She never got a call before the repairs were finished, so naturally, she was astonished when presented with the final total which was $781.69 -- more than double what we had planned for. After talking with my realtor, my husband wanted to see the actual invoice, so I called to ask for one to be faxed to us. The lady who answered the phone sounded very "put out" because we wanted a copy after they had already given a copy to our realtor. My husband is a lifelong "handy man" and he typically does our fixes himself, but in circumstances like this one, we have to trust someone else. After looking over the invoice, based on his continual parts pricing at Lowe's and other places, he estimates that the markup on parts was about 200% -- and he felt that the length of time that it too to complete these "fix it" jobs was excessive, too. He was especially irritated by the face that we paid Frederick's in 2012 to take care of the front faucet and the 2 toilets -- only to find them failing less than 2 years later. We are now questioning the quality of the original work. There are plenty of other plumbers in Wichita. I "thought" we had found a good one, but apparently I was either wrong in the first review, or things have deteriorated in the time since our last call to Frederick's. In addition to following up on Angie's List, I intend to let all of my friends and neighbors know that I no longer endorse Frederick's as a good company for 4 very specific reasons: (1) their insistence on having a credit card before agreeing to take a job; (2) not following through with instructions to call the realtor if the job looked like it was going to be excessive; (3) the actual charges for the job -- and especially when they were (mostly) repairing their own work; and (4) because of the snippy attitude of whomever answered the phone and talked to me when I called to request a faxed invoice. All of the above, in my opinion, are poor business practices, and I will not do business with them again.
Description of Work: We are selling our house, and an inspection showed 3 leaky toilets, the need for a relief valve on a water heater, and a front outdoor water faucet leaking. (Frederick's installed that outdoor faucet as new on 12-3-2012 and they fixed two of the leaky toilets.) Our realtor is handling the repairs because we now live out of state. I suggested Frederick's for the plumbing repairs because we had used them on 12-3-2012 and were very happy with their service. (See previous review written by me with an overall A grade.)

I first sent a email request but got no response after 2 days so my wife called them and they came out next day. The plumber opened the drain with a auger and it now drains but he was asked to look at the bathroom sink drain also but left without doing it and I had to call again for another day. While the response was quick it cost another $53 in addition to the $100 which I paid for the first plumber. I contacted Frederick Plumbing about the extra charges and was told that the cost would have been the same even if it had been done the first time. Although I know that businesses have to charge for services the $53 for the bathroom sink drain seems excessive for pouring acid into the drain. When I asked about that I was told that I can't buy the acid, only plumbers can buy it. The next time I need a plumber I will hesitate before calling Frederick Plumbing. Overall I am disappointed.
Description of Work: Opened a bathtub drain.

I was very pleased with the professionalism of this company and with the work ethic of the plumber. I would definitely recommend Frederick's to anyone asking, and when needed, I will use them again.
Description of Work: We had two water leaks so I called Frederick's Plumbing after reading the reviews here. My call was returned promptly. An appointment set set quickly. The plumber arrived without delay. Everything was repaired quickly and efficiently.

We paid the invoice in full but feel the company was careless in their writing up the work order and unprofessional in refusing to consider some reduction in fee.
Description of Work: Our church contacted Frederick to check out the fact that we were getting very low air volume from a certain HVAC unit they had installed several years before. We called and indicated that we strongly suspected the problem was a cramped or disconnected duct in the crawl space because we had had the unit itself checked out several weeks previously (by another individual) as a part of routine annual maintenance. Frederick's dispatcher (unbeknownst to us) simply wrote down to check the unit for low air volume flow. The mechanic came and spent the major portion of his time (re)checking out the unit rather than checking the ductwork. Finally, after finding no issue with the unit, he checked the ductwork and reconnected a duct that had become disconnected thus solving the problem. After we received their bill and realized the mechanic did not check the duct FIRST as we had suggested, we called and asked that they consider reducing their fee for their dispatcher incorrectly writing up the work order and the time wasted rechecking the unit. The owner absolutely refused to consider any reduction in fee.

Response from Frederick Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning
First of all we appreciate the feedback, it is helpful. On a low air volume service call, there are several items that can cause this, and without checking equipment, this can create a call back and we still have an unsatisfied customer. This peticular crawlspace is not an easy one, which is why we would guess the other individual who checked the system, did not check the ducting before calling us. We are very sorry you are unhappy, we do try to be thorough and resolve our customers problem the first time rather than returning, because we overlooked something.

I asked them to come concerning a clog in a drain pipe. They scheduled me quickly and arrived on time. My mistake was mentioning other service I would like to have done without talking to them on the phone about it first. The technician dealt with the clogged drain fairly quickly. The other fixes, which were two toilets with flushing handles which were "sticking", took much longer than I anticipated. I thought I was asking them to do something very simple. I would have appreciated enough communication back from the technician to have known that what I was asking was not going to be simple - or inexpensive. It has been several months since he was here. I have had no problems with the toilets he fixed and I am very satisfied with the work he did. I am not familiar with pricing for this kind of work, but I thought $450 to unclog a pipe and fix two toilet handles was high. He worked for 3 to 4 hours. I would call them again, but I would clarify ahead of time about the work I wanted to have done and how much they thought it was going to cost. High quality apparently takes time and money. I guess that should be no surprise.
Description of Work: They fixed a clogged drain pipe in my basement by using a snake and commercial grade drain cleaning chemicals. They repaired the handles of two toilets which were sticking and needed to be "jiggled" after every flush.

I tried repairing it with the parts I bought from Superior Plumbing but every time I reassembled the control the water wouldn't turn off. After several trips back to Superior Plumbing and more than an hour on the phone with the manufacturer I was getting nowhere and decided it was time to call a plumber. Having a very good experience with Frederick Heating and Cooling I decided to call them since they do plumbing too. I made an appointment for 1230 and waited. 1230 passed and no phone call but finally about 1250 Fredericks called to see if I was ready for them to send a plumber. Another half hour elapsed before "Johnny" arrived. He promptly diagnosed the problem and in about a half hour he was finished. The total cost was very reasonable at $79 as I had expected to pay a minimum of $100. Frederick Plumbing is a company I will call again even though they were a little slow arriving.
Description of Work: I had a shower faucet that had been leaking.

The plumber let me know what he was doing every step of the way and explained to me why I was having the leak problem. He was prompt and courteous.
Description of Work: The plumber was asked to come and investigate a possible leak detected around the base of my toilet. The problem was with the wax ring. He replaced it, reset the toilet and replaced a part of the mechanism in the tank (can't remember the name) that was affecting how my toilet flushed. He also caulked around the base of the toilet.

This is the third year I've used Frederick Plumbing for furnace service and have always been completely satisfied. My appointment was set for between 1 and 3 in the afternoon and they called about 1255 wanting to know if it was ok to send the technician out. I said yes and thought he would be here shortly but it was about 30 minutes before he arrived. The technician was very courteous and efficient taking only about a half hour or so to check two furnaces. The price for two furnaces was only $110 which is a little more than half of what some others charge. I'm very pleased with Frederick and will use them again next year. They are an excellent company and I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Furnace tune up/service. I had two furnaces checked and adjusted for the upcoming winter.

It took a long time for the work and locating which parts were the problem. this increased the per hour cost. Overall I was satisfied with the work. I have used Frederick Plumbing for years and have found their work to be professional and efficient. They have responded quickly when I have a major problem.
Description of Work: The last visit was to repair stools that were leaking water in two bathrooms. Because my plumbing is dated, the parts required are sometimes difficult to locate. Frederick has the parts needed.

I highly recommend Frederick's and have nothing but praise for this company. In the spring I'll be calling them again to service my central air units. Great folks to do business with.
Description of Work: Frederick Plumbing and Heating serviced (2) furnaces on the same day. This is the second consecutive year I used them and both times the same technician came out. He was very punctual and very courteous just like last year. The price was very reasonable and was cheaper than some of their competitors and was the primary reason that I chose them a second time.

It is a local family owned company and came highly recommended to me. They do the plumbing, heating & A/C and that is real advantage to have one company do the all of those. They are very accommodating, very helpful and it is very good to work with them.
Description of Work: I use them for my plumbing and heating & A/C needs. They repaired some cut off valves, toilets and sinks on their last visit. They also installed an auxiliary furnace recently.
