Had siding installed 2 years ago. Siding looks great, but they reinstalled light fixtures incorrectly. After delaying repair they now say it wasn’t their responsibility to do light fixtures even though their crew removed and reinstalled. They are now saying there’s no record of my complaints and that problems were caused by storm damage, even though their inspector said they were installed incorrectly and some of them, I have 5 exterior light fixtures, are only being held on by the siding. Champion brags about its warranty making the higher prices they charge worth it, just don’t expect them to follow through. They are worse than dealing with a lawyer as far as double talk and loop holes. I could have got the job done for 1/2 what champion charge and I now see I should have gone that route as their warranty appears to be worthless!

Very happy with the product and the work done by the 3 crews who completed siding/windows and guttering. I would give an A for the rating but am still waiting on some communication from the Wichita office regarding one of the windows which was scratched upon delivery. Again..very happy with the diamondkote siding and champion windows!

This was our second time using the company, and it was a good experience as usual. The installers arrived on time, were friendly and courteous, and did a great job of keeping everything clean while they worked. They also did a quality job with the installation, and the windows come with a lifetime warranty.

The workers (contractors) were always very friendly and somewhat professional. Some were much more professional than others. This does not usually bother me, as I would rather have relaxed, friendly workers than strictly professional drones; but when workers get too chummy and badmouth their company in front of the customer, that's bad form, and this happened on more than one occasion. Also, I would ask about a job or why something was not being done and the answer would be, "That's not my job." or "It's not in the contract, you'll have to call the office. There's nothing I can do." Not very professional, nor very customer-service oriented. In fact, my original contract was amended three times; twice because of things the salesman "forgot" to put into the contract that should have been there. Of course he apologized and said it was an oversight. Of course, each time I scrutinized every line and tried to think of everything that should be included (doors, yes, ahh, and trim!--was I forgetting anything? Oh--nails, sheetrock... yeah, believe it or not, it was kind of like that!); but I'm not a professional building contractor, so bound to be ignorant! Wasn't that why I hired this company, to do this for me?? And with every amendment, the price went up! The salesman claimed not to have understood my full intentions, was sorry that we weren't "on the same page". Very clever Doublespeak. The workers were great for the most part. They were not always punctual, would mostly just show up when they wanted. They would say they'd be here in the morning and maybe not show up until noon or sometimes a day or a couple days later. But when they did show up, they worked. And the work they did was solid, good work, for the most part. Not excellent or above average, but good. The sub-contractors for the roof had to come back and do it over, as the roof leaked (through the light fixture!) the first time it rained. Two items still to be repaired: One of the screens came out along the edge of the window, and the gutter has to be re-hung, as the rain just flows under it. But there is a Lifetime Warranty, after all. Right? Not if you are in a feud with the company. Apparently, to Champion of Wichita, remodeling doesn't include adding trim nor does it include finishing the job or fixing mistakes your workers made. After receiving numerous promises to have this work completed, which never happened, I was then told the job was finished. I have pics (will try to post) of work they said was "finished" that I eventually had to hire another company to complete (see my review on "Handyman Matters"). On 27 August 2013, I was told by the Champion Wichita boss Todd that my last few jobs, which are still under contract, would be completed "soon". Weeks, then months passed with no action. When I contacted the company, I was told they can't help me until I pay my bill. I owe a tiny fraction-- $3500, and the contract states I do not have to pay in full until the job is completed, which it isn't. I mistakenly thought that owing them a little money would motivate them to provide service--Nope! And I am equally convinced that had I paid them, nothing would be changed. So I am left with siding that doesn't match, although it clearly states in my contract "to match existing siding" (the contractors and salesman cheerfully told me, "All you need is paint!"--Really?); unfinished decking and some small finish issues with my Patio Room. I paid, handsomely, for the rest of the repairs, so that I could get on with the remodel and my life and start using my house again. I caution anyone who uses this company to triple-check the contract for flaws and exclusions, such as trim, and to be aware that the sub-contractors that Champion uses are not the best, just usually the cheapest. Keep about a third of the contract price until the job is completed--to YOUR satisfaction.
Description of Work: They removed an existing attached deck and built an 18'X21' Patio Room onto the back of my house and remodeled & enlarged my kitchen area by enclosing what had been a covered porch by removing 2 walls and installing 1 new wall and new replacement ceiling to match, plus a new picture window.

Response from Champion Windows and Home Exteriors of Wichita
I will stick to the facts at hand when it comes to responding to [Member name removed]’s allegations. All other comments are based on hearsay and happened over a year ago; thus, there is no point in arguing them. I will say this; Champion was voted the Number One Siding and Window Company in Wichita for the year 2013 by the readers’ of the Wichita Eagle. This certainly isn’t by happenstance. It is a testament to the workmanship and attitude of the entire Champion team. As [Member name removed] stated, there were three addendums to the original contract. However, contrary to [Member name removed]’s allegations that my salesman “forgot” to put items into the contract, [Member name removed] initiated all of the changes and several were quite large in scope. Her arguments clearly are not supported by the facts, as evidenced by the Contract and subsequent Addendums: 1) ORIGINAL CONTRACT: a. Dated: 9/17/12 b. Amount: $33,959 c. Size of Room: 14’x20’ d. Comments in the contract: “Customer to tear out deck 2) ADDENDUM NO.1: a. Dated: 1/25/13 b. Amount: $16,788 c. FACTS: The customer decided to have Champion tear out the existing deck, plus two walls in the dining room area. In addition, the customer changed the size of the room from a 14’ x 20’ to 16’ x 18’. Instead of pouring a concrete slab per the original contract, the customer made a change to an insulated poly-deck. The scope of the project now moved to the interior of the home. We added framing walls, running electrical service, siding (The contract does NOT state the siding has to match. You can’t match Masonite because all manufacturers of Masonite are no longer in business. My salesman did not, nor would her write that in the contract), new floor joists and trusses and the insulation of the new walls. Also to include the installation of customer supplied French doors, plus cut an opening and install a window. Customer responsible for flooring, new doors and finish work. 3) ADDENDUM NO. 2: a. Dated: 3/6/13 b. Amount: $6,000 c. FACTS: The customer changed the size of the poly-deck by adding 3’ of width as well as wanted the roof panels shingled. 4) ADDENDUM NO.3: a. Dated: 3/26/13 b. Amount: $7,984 c. FACTS: The customer now wanted Champion to tear out two more walls and install three new walls. Champion did the necessary electrical work and sheetrock, plus (1) coat of mud. Any other finish work responsibility of the customer. To include one tiny window in the bathroom. So, given the above, Champion has satisfied our obligation under the contract. We are not finish carpenters nor are we painters. All of this was made very clear in the contract/addendums. As you can see, from the date the Original contract was signed to the date of the last addendum, over 6 months had passed. As a business owner I was sitting on uncollected accounts receivables for weeks at a time as well as incurring payables for material and labor. We tried multiple times to get to the property to complete the work, but it became more nad more difficult to get in touch with the homeowner. Offered Resolution: Champion will not paint the siding or weatherproof the stairs. I expect the homeowner to pay the entire $3,500.00, and for it to be paid no later than 3/07/14. While [Member name removed] did invest a substantial overall dollar amount, Champion still operated with very thin margin on this job. The work was completed as contracted and sold below market value; which is evident by the $4,798.21 (7% of the $64,731 contracted, not $70,000) she paid a third party JUST for the finish work. I would be more than willing to post copies of the said contract and addendum with her signature that clearly state that the customer is responsible for the finish work and that she has committed to pay the entire $64,731 upon completion. Champion’s contract/addendums clearly state multiple times that the customer is responsible for the finish work. Once Champion’s bank has posted a $3,500.00 deposit, I will be happy to service her sun room. Tad Albright – Division Manager Champion Window Co., of Wichita

They did an excellent job. Started with the salesman, Steve Gamble, who came to our house. Spent lots of time with us going over choices of colors, style and costs. all the crews for the projects were very good about talking to us about what they were doing, what we should expect and cleaning up after themselves. We are two generations and 4 retired people so we were having fun watching the work most of the time. The siding, facia, eaves. gutters and shutters are beautiful and we never have to paint again! The roof went on in one day and a couple hours the next day. the sun room--something we didn't plan, but after seeing the catalogs, we thought "why not"? We LOVE it. Our 30 year old home now looks like it is brand new. Everyone at Champion local show room from receptionist, bookkeeper, manager, etc were very attentive to our endless questions and concerns. David Hatcher who oversees installs on siding and sun rooms was especially patient with us. If we called with a question he would return the call by the next day and sometimes called the same day when he was out at another job doing follow-up. Champion has really made this major remodel something I would do again----glad I don't have the feeling that I should have never done it. Thanks everyone at Champion for your part in our happiness and satisfaction!
Description of Work: We were exploring new vinyl siding for our house when the storm hit in May or June. Due to insurance paying for part of our repairs we decided to do a complete outside make over and a sun room. The 40,000 price above does not include what insurance paid. We had a family meeting (two generations live together) and we decided we would rather fix up our home than move and buy something new. so this was a major investment and we don't plan to ever sell our home, just pass it down.

Champions window did great with the 5 regular basement windows but the when it came to the egress window they had no clue on what to do. I agreed to be responsible for digging the hole and the salesman stated that it would be easy to connected the egress window to drain to the existing drain tile. Champion came out and installed the window and everything was right with the world but little did I know that Champion's workman ship was horrible. Champion window miss cut the whole to far up from the basement floor. that is to say that the opening window should have been cut at most 40in or below but Champion cut the window at 44in. Because for Champion's mistake I took back 1 of the 4 window well sections that I purchased to finish out the egress window. The first time it rain after the egress window was install the window well flooded. Although, it seemed unfortunate at the time the window well flooded it was really a blessing in disguise. I called Champion after the 1st flood and they told me to dig the hole deeper. I had to redig the hole remove the window well sections and dig, by hand, deeper. The 2nd time it rained the window well flooded. I called around to some window covering companies and was put in contact with Water Protection Plus (WPP). As soon as the owner saw the window Champion put in he stated that the window was out of code. I called Champion and they argued that the window was put in correctly. I also, found out that my drain tile run underneath my home and Champion keep telling me to dig deeper and eventually I would find the drain tile. In order for me to break the stalemate I went to talk to Richard Meyer at the office of Wichita City inspection. Mr. Meyer stated that Water Protection Plus was correct and they Mr. Meyer asked if a permit was pulled. I thought that Champion did but the Mr. Meyer informed me that no permit was pulled for the project. Mr. Meyer required me to purchase one right then and there. I called Champion and to tell they of the outcome and the division manager still argued with what I found out. The division manager came over to measure the window himself and found that the window opening was not cut to Champion standards, which were not up to code in the 1st place. I had a meeting with the division manager and the project supervisor and was told that they consider the rough opening of the window as the window sill. They stated that they would re-cut the opening, reimburse me for the cost of the permit, and dig the hole for me. Champion did what they said but as Water Protection Plus was tying in my window well drain to me existing drain tile the owner noticed that I needed a 4th window well section. By this time I have dealt with this window for almost 8 months so I told WPP to install what he had because it would take 2 to 4 weeks to get the same brand of section I was using from Lowes. During this time Champion fail the city inspection for the egress window and had to fix structural problems. I call Champion to ask if they would buy the 3 window wells from me at cost because I started with 4 and due to their mistake end with 3. Champion said "NO". Then said that they would talk it over and get back to me. The division manager made it a point to avoid me and not return any phone calls. At my wits end I called KAKE on your side who directed me to call the DIstrict Attorney's office. I filed a complaint and that came back as not fraud but poor workmanship. And advise me to go to small claims court. Before I filed for small claims court I call Champions corporate office on a Saturday and complained. The division manager emailed about 1 hour after I contacted corporate. The tone of the email was horrendous but after my reply his response was much, much nicer. Champion did not want to deal with the window well issue so I took them to small claims court and won. Fair warning if you are going to use Champion window DON'T if you have used Champion window call the City inspectors office and ask it they pulled a permit for your residence. I fought the division manager at every step of the way he will not see your way unless you go to the extremes. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT USE CHAMPION WINDOW

Excellent, prompt and professional service. Their standard trim samples did not match paint color in use in this development, so the man who measured returned with paint sample cards, so trim could be matched. Windows were inserted and calked neatly; all trash, trimmings and old windows removed. Follow-up information from company, with incentives to recommend their service to potential customers.

I ordered 4 windows and 2 doors January 24, 2012. Ron, the Champion salesman, told us our narrow casement windows would not be any narrower than the originals. They turned out to be a lot narrower. I had wood shutters on the inside of the condo so I wanted wood grain windows to match the old ones. The windows don't match anything. They just look like fake wood. Doors don't look too bad. Windows took forever to make and to come in. They finally installed everything on June 7, 2012. When installers came, they ask me why I had a single bar in my smallest window when the other condos that they had installed had a diamond grid like the original window. I told them it was supposed to be a diamond grid. They put it in anyway and said they could change out the glass later. I was told the plugs on the inside of all the windows did not come in yet. When they got to the front bedroom window, it was missing the 2 screens and 2 crank out handles. When they put in the rest of the screens, they just looked awful. They were dark bronze and pretty much covered up the fake wood. I was never told the screens would not match the windows like my other neighbors tan screens matched their tan windows. I observed the Champion installers cutting the inside trim with a utility knife on the carpet near every window. I assumed they had done this before and knew what they were doing. My carpet is Berber and when I vacuumed the carpet the next time I saw cuts and gouges were starting to appear near the windows. Right inside my front door is a notch cut out of the carpet. The installers told me to not wash the windows for a couple of days to let the silicone dry. The next time I washed the windows, I discovered the large picture window in the living room has a red line about 4 inches long and a smudge beside that. I called Robert, who was in charge of ordering and installing, and told him of all the problems I have. Our salesman told us Champion windows and doors would be so much more energy efficient than our old wood Andersons were and the smart glass would reflect the sunlight better. In the summer of 2012, I had the highest electric bills I have ever had in the 10 years that I have lived here. I can't wait for winter to see how high my gas bill gets. On one of my patio doors, the brick mold is lose and curling out at the bottom with a big gap now, which is no surprise because 2 of my condo neighbors had the same problem. You would think the Champion factory would do a recall to attach these better on all of Champion doors. Robert called once since June and told me my plugs are in. This is December, 11 months since I ordered my doors and windows. I do not have my diamond grid window, my 2 screens and 2 handles that were missing. My brick mold is still loose. No one has ever looked at my picture window or my carpet yet. Robert promised to have someone look at it as soon as they were back in the area. An unhappy customer.

The sales representative we dealt with knows their products very well. He was able to answer all our questions to our satisfaction, and provided information that was very helpful in making our decision as to which doors would work best for us. We have been dealing with Champion for 10 plus years, and have had the same sales person working with us for purchases of windows, and a patio room. Very satisfied with the quality of the doors, and the installation went very smoothly. Protected the area of installation to prevent damage to items in surrounding area. Hauled off and cleaned up very well after finished. Installers were friendly and professional and informative about the product they were installing.
Description of Work: Installed two new entry doors. Don't expect to order the doors and have them installed the next day or week, as they are made to order and take 6 to 8 weeks to be made. The time frame we were quoted when placing the order was accurate to the day, practically.

They completed everything in one day. It was complex work, but they stuck to their original quote and price and got the job done very efficiently. And all the people on the crew were very courteous and nice.
Description of Work: They put in all new windows around the duplex and put in two sets of sliding doors.
