+ -1 moreFrom day one it was a fight with ADT not willing to help or listen.
Description of Work: Our alarm never worked from day one. I had numerous times techs out to the house to look at the system. The alarm would go off at all times of the day and night to where we got to a point we turned it off. When we tried calling the 1-800 number you never got a direct answer we were pushed to one rep and then to another. Many hours were spent on hold or calling some other number to get an answer that never came. When contacting the sales rep for help he no longer worked for ADT so we called our home office and was not able to speak with a rep nor the manager. Prior to installing new windows I had ADT out to the house to show me what I needed to know and show the contractors before they started installing the new windows. When we ran into a problem I called our rep who did not answer then I called our home office and had to leave a message for the manger who I still have not heard from and this phone call was made summer of 2012 and we are now January 2013. When we would mail letters of complaint or termination ADT would not have any record documenting our past phone calls. I could show them my documentation of the day, time, and person I spoke with but they did not have record of these attempts. After months/years dealing with this issue ADT and I agreed to the termination and the amount we would owe. We never received a final bill but I did receive a phone call from a collection agency saying I owed X amount. I spent good part of a day on the phone with the collection agency and in person at our local ADT office trying to get this issue resolved and to prevent my good credit history from being tarnished. Interesting to find out that we had just received the revised agreed bill (Christmas holiday) and my husband had just put it in the mail the same day we received it. By this point I was not going to mail off a bill without documentation because we did not have a direct contact and I did not trust ADT. Come to find out ADT had mailed out a batch of notices of termination of service that went out before they were needed. This is only part of our drama with ADT this doesn't even touch the fact that after a lightening strike they would not look at the system unless I turned on service for a four year contract even though I informed them we were going to be replacing every window in the house. I only wanted to make sure I did not have issues with the system because we had a small fire in the house with the lightening strike and it had traveled inside via wires, I thought I was being a wise homeowner to have them look at the system instead I was suckered into paying money for a system that did not work.

When they first came out, they sent someone to the house to talk to me, so that we would understand everything that we needed to know about the security system. I did not have to figure out what's going on over the phone.

+ -1 moreThey were horrible. I paid a lot and didn't have service from day one. They never installed it correctly, and continued to charge me, even though the alarm system never worked. Every time they came out, it was a $25 service charge. They charged me $700 because the people that bought my house don't have ADT, and I had signed a contract I wasn't aware of. They told me to wait a couple months, and hopefully the new owners will get ADT.

+ -1 morePersonally I think the rates were pretty expensive. I find the system difficult to use. I had a in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania so I use the system called West Pac electric and that was easy. That was a wonderful system. I compared the two and ADT has gone over broad on it technology and it was difficult especially for seniors to use. This goes back many years now when we first moved here and got the system installed. They had a lot difficulty installing it because the previous owner had many wire leading into the house because it was the travel service but it was difficult for me to judge. They did spend awful lot of time here. They were professional. They were interested in a customer use all their technology and that’s a big sale pitch that they make. It was difficult as a customer to defend myself against that, kind of salesmanship I understand it from the business point of view so a lot of people that would be very useful I suppose. I am going to have to redo my security system and I am still debating whether I should go back to ADT or look for another company.

+ -1 moreI was very pleased with their service. They were very courteous and very helpful. We had it put in the spring and it was in the name of my late husband Patrick Dorsey. They charged us on a monthly basis. When they finished, they explained everything to us and we knew exactly how the system worked when they left us. We felt that their sales presentation, when they came out and talked to us about it, was very good. I have had to terminate their service because I can't afford it any more. My husband passed away in June and I am on reduced income and I am having to cut stuff. I won't be using the service for another 30 days. Their price was very good. My terminating my contract had nothing to do with their service.
Description of Work: The home security company put in a motion security system for the front door and the back door in my house.
