I called Randy on Friday afternoon and asked if he could install a kitchen light fixture. He said he could do it the next day if he finished his current project installing a garage door. As it turned out, he stopped by late Sunday afternoon and returned Monday morning to do the install. Only took an hour with no problems and his charge for the service was a very reasonable $35 Randy has done work for me before and he always emphasizes work quality and affordable prices. I have no hesitation to recommend his handyman services to anyone. A+

Randy was very helpful, and offered to advise me on doing some of the work myself to save money. He seems like an honest man who you can trust to tell you what's what, so you know you aren't going to get billed for work not needed/done, etc. After we have some electrical work done, we planning on getting Randy to come over and do some work.
Description of Work: We haven't had work done by Randy yet, pending getting some electrical issues taken care of first. Gave Randy a list of things we are interested in doing.

Randy got right to work the minute he arrived. Apparently, someone who had previously worked on the light short-cut the job and either lost a nut or just didn't put it back together correctly so that when I unscrewed the lamp bulb to replace it, the whole fixture loosened up. Randy took it completely apart and put it back together with a spare nut he had in his truck. Someone else would have probably tried to sell me a new fixture. It was refreshing to finally find a handyman who is honest, reliable and reasonable. I will definitely be calling him again. Almost forgot. He did charge me an extra $25 for the trip from Topeka to my home in Lawrence. He advised that this cost would go up to $50 in the future.
Description of Work: I had an exterior pole light fixture that was not secure and probably would have fallen off had it been windy or a squirrel had jumped on it. I didn't see a way to secure it from the outside and lacked the skills to tear it apart and diagnose the problem. I needed someone fast and I called Randy. I'm glad I did. He was out in western Kansas when I called, but he was at my house in Lawrence the very next morning.

I first made the appointment in the late months of last year. Because of Illnesses and blustery weather, he was not able to do the job in a timely manner (understandable). He made it out to fix the gutter on a decent day in February. He Told me he would return within a couple of weeks to blow out the gutters and remove the ties that were originally keeping the gutters from hitting the ground. He never came back to finish the job. He's seemed to be friendly and approachable. But he didn't finish the job.
Description of Work: I had a gutter partially fall from the roof. I needed Randy to re-attach the gutter on the roofline. I also needed his to blow out the leaf debris from the gutters.

He is fabulous! That?s what he did the day before yesterday, but he has done other things too. He is very creative about how to fix the project. I had no idea how anybody was going to get the door open, because the knob wouldn?t turn, and he didn?t have any trouble fixing it. He fixed it so it looks nice, he thinks about those things. Actually, he is going to be putting in 2 storm doors for us in the future. We already had it on the works. It will be several weeks before we get the storms, we ordered them. He is actually picking up the storm doors, I mean he is doing the whole thing.

Randy the Handyman responded to my call for help with a clogged sewer line at my home. He was then at another work project elsewhere. He said he would leave for my house when finished at the site where he was. While on the way, he called to notify me of his being in transit. He arrived in the afternoon. He looked at the drain and tried to unplug it with a plunger. After several attempts, it was clear that a plunger would not free up the clogged pipe. He recommended as a next step to call the city water department for a water main check, which calls he agreed to do. After a bit of time, he was directed to the appropriate section. The water staff was very agreeable to coming by my house to check my block's main sewer that afternoon. The city staff arrived in about a half hour at my block. Randy communicated with them. The main was checked and proved free of blockage. Randy then called a plumber office and told them of the issues and what had been done to that point. It was obvious that a cleaning, or roto rooting, of my house's sewer pipe was in order. The plumber office asked if I wanted a tech to come tomorrow, at regular hourly rates. Or to make an emergency call late the same afternoon as this call (i.e., today), but at overtime rates. I agreed to the overtime arrangement for today. (Note: the plumber was able to clear the sewer line later the same day.) As part of Randy's thoroughness, he suggested that I make another appointment with the plumber for a few days later. He recommended that the techs run a "cam." That refers to a thin camera line being extended into the sewer pipe. Then the plumber could see if house settling, or tree roots, or something else had caused the line to be partially blocked. And if a problem was found, I should consider getting it fixed. (For info, I had not had a blocked sewer line for 20 years. Also for info, the house at present is nearly 40 years old.) I agreed to call the plumber in a few days. At that point, Randy had spent two and a half hours: either interacting with the city staff or locating a plumber. At that point, and with the plumber on the way, I asked if there was anything more that he should do. He said no. Then I asked him about his bill. He told me he had not actually done the work. So he left the bill up to me. I asked him his regular rate. I decided to pay him for the full time he was there. I thanked him for his advice and support. Then he left. Randy the Handyman is a good man. And he is very knowledgeable of handyman skills in most of the home fixup areas. I would highly recommend him to clients of Angies List
Description of Work: Randy checked out the stopped sewer drain in basement. Then he assisted with phone calls for help. First, with the city water department; and then with a plumbing company.

Randy was prompt and polite. He gave me an estimate and kept to it. My only "moments" of concern were when he said he would call me on a Monday. I waited and ended up calling him on a Wednesday. He apologized. When he told me he could not find the necessary parts and would have to make them, I studied my stupid drawers...one of the necessary little parts fell off. I took it to the nearby hardware store when I bought the last 5 of these little plastic gadgets. I fixed my drawers myself. I am left with the notion that Randy needs to go to ACE hardware to get stuff.
Description of Work: Relatively mundane: fix folding closet doors, put weather stripping around doors, install a smoke alarm, repair a stairway railing and hang a dressing mirror on a door. I had hoped Randy would fix my lopsided kitchen drawers; but he found he would have to "make" the necessary parts and so we had to delay.

Randy was nice, and I hate to rate his services low, but I am. We called him because of the reviews on here to have him find what was leaking from our kitchen to our basement. He eventually found that it was the dishwasher which I think is the obituary first place to look. However, it was the third or forth that he looked at. Before he found that it was the dishwasher he cut a huge hole in our ceiling in the basement to try to locate the issue. So that was fairly concerning to us, but we had him go ahead and finish replacing the dishwasher then putting two new faucets in. He just didn't seem sure about what he was doing (reference the hole in our ceiling). Even with the faucets, he took a long time to finish them with his partner. One of the other big negatives was that he NEVER called before he came over. He disrupted us twice because we had no idea that he was coming over. Even without it being a business matter, it seems like common curious to let someone know if you're coming over. He tried to deliver the bill a week after he was done twice. The first time we were gone (we have a video feed on our phones from the doorbell so we saw it was him), but the second time was at 7:00pm and again disrupted us. Then, he didn't even have the bill ready. We had to go out to his van to have him complete it since I wasn't having him come in since we weren't ready for him. Again, seems like this should have been ready for us already. After this, he had someone come over to give us an estimate on fixing the large hole in our ceiling that he gave us. The estimate came to $1800! Plus his $540 bill...wow. We didn't go with that estimate, but I still wonder how much we could have SAVED if we didn't go with Randy. Maybe he's just not great with pluming issues? I don't know, but he was not the right guy for the jobs we had. Maybe he'll be right for you, but I'm sorry that I can't recommend him. Again, he was super nice, but since Angie's list is here for honest reviews, I felt like that's what I needed to leave.

We don't live in the area, but are out of state. We found Randy on Angie's List and contacted him based on reviews. Randy showed up when he said he would, gave us estimates for all the work, communicated on a regular basis, and did the work professionally and with care. We met him another time at the house, and he gave us input on future work, which we will do through him at the proper time. Highly recommend this gentleman to anyone who needs this type of work done. He's great and we appreciate his thoughtfulness and work ethic. His pricing is very reasonable.

Randy and his brother did a great job and were very responsive to my calls. We bought the first toilet and they installed that one then a week later Randy saw that they were on sale contacted me to let me know so I decided to get the other one replaced the other one as and ended up getting money back on the first one. Randy does a great job of explaining all that he is going to do and did so as well through out the install. Randy helped me pick out the toilets and then hauled them back to the house. My house was built back around 1965 and has pretty much all the original plumbing and Randy saw that we should replace the connections and valves to avoid any issues in the future if we need to shut the valves off. He is very good at explaining why something needs done but you do not feel pressured what so ever. I am very happy with their work and have his number in my phone for any future work. l

I contacted Randy in late June to see if he would be able replace the back entry door/frame in our garage, a wood door which had deteriorated from sunlight and moisture over the years. He said that he had a few other jobs to do first but that he would be able to do the job in a few weeks. He called back about 5 weeks later and said he could do the work and asked me to pick out the door/frame I wanted at Lowe's and he would be over in two days to do the installation. I was to pick up the door on the day Randy was coming, but was unable to get a hold of a truck. So Randy said he could meet me at Lowe's and he would put the door in his van and follow me to my house. When we arrived, Randy observed that the frame was still in good condition, so to save time and money, he suggested just replacing the door and not the frame. I agreed, so he replaced the old door with the new one - and then we saw that there was a noticeable amount of space between and new door and the frame. He measured the old door and found that is was not a standard size, but slightly larger. He did his best to make the new one fit and eliminate some of the space around the frame. All of this took about 2 hours and Randy charged us $150. However, after he left, that evening we noticed there was still quite a bit of space still around 2 sides of the door. When I called Randy to let him know that we were not satisfied with the way the installation turned out, he was very apologetic and assumed complete responsibility, explaining that he should have come out and measured the old door frame first. He then proceeded to take care of everything that needed to be done to complete the job to our satisfaction - from carefully measuring the old door to special ordering the exact size door from Lowe's to picking up the new door. And when it finally came in to Lowe's, he picked it up and did the installation of the new door on a weekend morning. After installation, he even loaded up the first door we had bought and he had installed so we could take it back to Lowe's to get a refund. The final installation took about 2 hours. And then he said that since he considered all of the problems to have been his fault, he only charged us $100 plus his exact cost for the new special order door. Admittedly, some pre-measuring of the old door and frame would have saved a lot of time and trouble. But Randy was very professional in going above and beyond to help us get the right door and charging us a minimal amount for all of the time he and his helper put in! Randy seems to be all about helping people get odd jobs done and saving them money in the process! All through this process, he was most concerned that he was doing the work to our satisfaction. He was very nice to work with and I would not hesitate to use his services again!
