Company has an online request form. They called me in under 30 minutes and the technician contacted me within an hour. Tyler analyzed the situation, communicated with me each step of the way to let me know what was going on and what he needed to do to fix it. He did a great job of cleaning up after the work was complete. I am very satisfied with the work and will consider using McElroy's for any future needs.

They did their work perfectly, professionally but they weren't very nice, I even bought their extended service warranty thing for three hundred something dollars a year, and I was going through a really hard time financially because of a lot of doctor bills and took a while to get paid off and they refused to work for me anymore and they refused to return my three hundred and something dollars, I paid three hundred and something dollars to be only put on the top of their list if there was an emergency. I have been really sick I ad been in the hospital I got behind in all my bills no body else treated me the way they did they treated me like I was dumb everybody else said hey we will work it out, yeah we will take a payment,It was thirteen hundred dollars to do the repairs that they did and I had paid additional three hundred dollars they refused return three hundred dollars preparatory customer payment we not only wont return that we don't ever want to see you again and they told me never to call them back again, well it really hurt my feelings especially when I explain to them the situation and then later on which I have ever followed up on this because all of the topic I was so depressed I found out that the work that they did was covered under and home owner policy that I have. I had paid thirteen dollars bill and it was very expensive and I don't think they fix it right because I got water running out of my garage now which I did not had before they were just mean.

I went back to them because I’ve used them before. They always give good service before. I’ve used them for just about everything in that line of work like for plumbing, heating and air conditioning services. The only reason that I didn’t use them that one time is because it was a panic situation on a Sunday. Instead of calling them, another provider came out. I opened the yellow pages and they had a 2-page ad but they made a heck of a mess. Then McElroy’s came out the next day when I called them. They had it open in about half an hour. The cost seemed reasonable for what they did. They are a little more expensive but they do quality work. Their response time was very good. They were right on time.

THEY WORKED WELL TO FIND THE COMBINATION I WAS LOOKING FOR. THEY WERE ON TIME and FINISHED THE JOB QUICKLY. THEY ARE A BIT HIGHER THAN OTHER SERVICES, BUT THE QUALITY OF WORK SEEMS BETTER. THAT BEING SAID, THEY DID LEAVE THE NEW FURNACE STICKING OUT OF THE OLD HOLE ABOUT 4and quot; and WERE UNABLE TO PUT A DOOR ON IT OF COVER IT IN ANY WAY. I AM STILL LOOKING FOR TIME TO FIGURE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THAT, BUT OTHERWISE, VERY GOOD JOB.

John has been the plumber who's taken care of the dirty work. He's never complained about crawling under a cabinet to hook up the faucets, or drains. He even took away the old heavy cast iron kitchen sink so it wouldn't sit outside while waiting on the parts truck to haul it away. I've used McElroy's for my heating and cooling as well. Solid service for a good price.

As part of a larger landscaping project I needed to cap both an existing outdoor faucet and a gas line leading to a yard light to make room for an outdoor patio. Access to these items was complicated by the finished ceiling in the basement. The plumber had to cut a hole in the ceiling, do the work, then install a grate to make the ceiling look decent again (which it does). In addition, the gas line used a saddle valve to tap into the black iron gas pipe in the basement. Saddle valves are no longer permitted so the length of gas pipe with the saddle valve had to be replaced. The finished ceiling made it hard to know where the valve was located and it took some detective work to finally find the right location, then another hole in the ceiling (with a grate) to make the repair. Once the lines were capped, the plumber installed a new faucet (called a sillcock) in a different location and replaced three other outdoor faucets. At one point, the plumber was waiting for fitting to be brought to him and I asked him to look at a toilet that was starting to leak around the base. He drained the toilet, and disconnected it from the floor. The floor seal was a little low so he fixed that while he waited. This was over and above what was covered by the estimate that I had been given for the other work and I wondered how much extra it would cost. He told me that he was already here and waiting on parts, and the final bill was no higher than the estimate. The plumber was on-site from about 9 am to 4 pm with a short break for lunch. I was very impressed by the plumbers diligence and the quality of his work and his willingness to do the extra task.
Description of Work: Disconnected a gas line to a yard light and replaced the section of pipe where the saddle valve was located, and replaced four outdoor water faucets. Also repaired a leaky toilet.

Overall, I was very pleased with their service and would use them again if needed.
Description of Work: They serviced my furnace & heat pump through a contract I purchased previously. All the technicians that visited my home on all occasions were friendly, helpful, and professional. I think they are a bit more expensive than some of their competition, but well worth it in my opinion. I would not hesitate to use them again.

Our sewer began backing up late on a Friday night. We called McElroy's as we had service plan with them. After several hours, the technician was unable to roto-root it clear and also was bringing up some of the sewer line (orangburg). He was also bringing the sewer back to our living area. The plumber did not wear booties, he did not lay down tarp, and he made multiple trips across our brand new carpet, but the worst part of this is that we have a crawling baby. He displayed a complete lack of regard for sanitation. He delivered the bad news that the whole sewer line would need to be replaced (which was not a surprise to us). Since it was the weekend, they were not able to come out to our house for an estimate until the next Monday. We were given our initial quote of approximately $7500-7700. After digging, in order to get the the sewer line it was determined thatthere was a bed of rock. This initiated a change order which pushed the quote up to $9500-9700. Upon further work, the following items also came up: -were unable to break rock with bucket and had to bring in a different piece of equipment to break -line was buried deeper at the connection point to the city main (14') Once all work was complete I informed the project manager that I wanted to go over the invoice in person rather than have it mailed to me without any explanation of the charges. Several weeks later I received the invoice in the mail without any notification from the project manager. The final invoice came to over $11,500. I was completely surprised by the total and frustrated that no one had contacted me about the invoice. There were a list of things during the process that frustrated us with the project manager. They were: -the second quote ($9500-9700) was not actually provided to us in writing until more than a day after the initial conversation of the increase. By the time we received that quote, other items had already come up. I was under the impression the quote he provided me included these other items. They did not. -our service agreement stated we received a 20% discount on plumbing. (However, upon further review of agreement it was only plumbing labor). -the quote stated that a change order is required for any additional costs 20% over quote. The final invoice (less taxes) was less than 20% over, however, with taxes it was pushing the 20% mark. They calculate this difference before tax which I did not fully understand. I arranged a meeting with McElroy's to go over the entire invoice because no where on the invoice did he state I had received my discount for having a service agreement or breakout any of the time detail on my invoice. When I met with them I raised all the issues as stated above and told them I felt I had been mislead on the quote and what the expected final invoice would be. I also expressed my frustration for not being contacted about the invoice after specifically asking them to contact me before mailing it out. The project manager apologized for this and they gave me a $400 credit. I also asked to see the detail behind my bill so I could better understand the charges such as equipment rental and usage ($7,762), labor ($2,573). They showed me the detail behind the labor, but would not show me any detail behind the equipment rental (the biggest charge!). They use a 3rd party for excavation and would not show me the invoice or bill from them for the work performed at my house. This did not give me a good feeling as to whether they are only passing along the charges they were billed for my residence. Based upon everything, I cancelled my service agreement with them (which I had for multiple years). The quality of work appears to good but after my experience with dealing with this project manager and staff, not sure if I trust them. **Updated: In response to McElroy's, my dissatisfaction with this company did not magically appear one year later. While this review was written a year after the work, it does not diminish our experience with McElroy's and their unprofessionalism and sloppy customer service, which McElroy's failed to address in their response. I stand by my review and grade of McElroy's no matter the lapse of time between review and the work.
Description of Work: They did a full sewer replacement from house to main line in back yard.

This sewer replacement project was completed in May 2012. and the Angie’s List review was posted 1 year later in May 2013. It is unfortunate and surprising that a year went by and (member name removed) has become very dissatisfied with the invoicing and project management. Our project management notes show that (member name removed) was satisfied with the Quality of our work and agreed with the $400 invoice credit. (member name removed) gave McElroy’s an A Grade in Quality, and we appreciate that. We don’t inflate our estimates to cover unforeseen below-ground conditions that we might encounter, but we do our best to tell the customer when such problems are found. That was the case on this project. McElroy’s feels that this sewer replacement project was managed and invoiced in a fair and responsive manner. We respectfully disagree with (member name removed) review and request Angie’s List to revise the Overall Grade. McElroy’s is a local family owned company that has been serving customers since 1951 with the core traits of Genuine Honesty, Approachable Experts and Commitment To Customers.

It went terrible...that was the last of her retirement money she had saved, but I just don't know what to do.. I've tried talking to them.. nothing helps...
Description of Work: I left a message on McElroy's facebook page and left a feedback on the service we got which they asked for....it was HORRIBLE...and we have given them every chance to fix it..but no..The estimate was for $5,200 and they only finished half the job.. claimed they put in new toilet and tub...no new toilet...WE bought the tub...all they did was install the tub fix some plumbing and put new floor in under tub..they didn't touch the hole in the ceiling downstairs and left it a mess..then charged us $7,300...and get this..Blamed it on a company they lease work out to...We have called ..everything we can do to give them the chance to fix this with no interest on their part at all..except to remove my recommendation and block me. How professional of them. We went with them because we needed it done right...DO NOT TRUST THEM!..They contract out work it's not even them doing it..at least that's what we were told ..like that was an excuse for why things weren't done and why we were charged $2,000 more and it was ok...Well we found Mom's original estimate and receipt finally...so strange how very different it is than the ones i asked for from them.. Mom cannot afford this...She finally had to pay Lowes to come out and put in a toilet...$300 some dollars more but at least it's not leaking on her head while she's in her bathroom with the huge hole in the ceiling...at least we have all we need now..all the paperwork..pictures..Lowes said they would confirm there was no new toilet...I think they thought they could take advantage of an elderly woman living alone.. DO NOT TRUST THEM!

This plumbing project was completed in June 2012. and the Angie’s List review was posted 10 months later in April 2013. It is unfortunate and surprising that 10 months went by before (member name removed) posted this review. This review is also misleading because (member name removd) Mother was the person that requested, approved and paid for this work. Our project management notes show that all of our communication went through (member name removed)’s Mother, and (member name removed)was not involved. In hindsight, we wish that (member name removed) would have been more involved in the project from the initial meeting to the final invoicing, and that (member name removed) would have voiced her concerns during the project so we could have addressed them at that time. McElroy’s feels that this project was managed and invoiced in a fair and responsive manner. We respectfully disagree with (member name removed) review since she was not involved with the project and request Angie’s List to revise the Overall Grade. McElroy’s is a local family owned company that has been serving customers since 1951 with the core traits of Genuine Honesty, Approachable Experts and Commitment To Customers.

This was perhaps the most unprofessional outfit on the sales side ii have ever run across. They don't know their products, they didn't perform what they said they would and especially when they said they would do it. In late November and early Dec 11' my wife and I decided we needed a new water heater. being an biomedical engineer I went to do research and get both estimates and schematics of several units over the internet and by even calling companies to find out the best and most efficient system. After b3 days work, I found a company Rheem that had introduced a new fast recovery but not tankless system whose specs indicated a 90 GPM turnout with a very efficient coefficient (cost). they stated that in 2010 they had won a national award for the xrs90 unit. The XR90 is a compact, energy saving 29-gallon gas water heater that outperforms standard 50-gallon models Features: Energy Efficient .70 EF exceeds ENERGY Starand reg; Phase II requirements, Sept. 2010 Well insulated for reduced stand-by heat loss Performance 29-Gallon capacity with 90-gallon FHR performance Recovery rate of 61 GPH at 90 degree rise, exceeds standard Compact Size Small foot print, 17-3/4 inch diameter Fast one-man installation, compact and light weight Self-Diagnostic System Integrated self-diagnostic system control for easy installation and service Low Emissions Eco-friendly burner, low NOx design Meets 40 ng/J NOx requirements Technology 110 VAC draft inducer (includes 8-foot cord with 3-prong plug)Standard atmospheric Category I, double-wall, B-vent, 3and quot; or 4and quot; (4and quot; adapter included) Guardian System™ and Sensor Exclusive air/fuel shut-off device for double protection Maintenance free – no filter to clean Protective control system that disables the heater in the presence of flammable vapor accumulation Longer Life Patented magnesium anode rod design incorporates a special resistor which protects the tank from rust High Altitude Compliant Certified for applications up to 7,700 feet above sea level Plus… Dual certified for both potable water and space heating Brass drain valve and temperature and pressure relief valve are included EverKleen™ device removes sediment Standard replacement parts I called up mcelroys a Rheem dealer and they knew nothing of unit but said would get back to me in a few days. The sales guy did and sid that they could get the unit but would take afew weeks. I told them I would be down and pay for the unit if they could get me a cost ( I did so). They said it would be in in 2-3 weeks. $ eweeks went by and nothing and i called again. The same sales guy said he would check..he did and said it was on dock in KC and be in next week and they would be out and install. Two weeks went by (I called) then another 2 weeks with nothing. I called back and asked to speak to General Manager ...he said he would look into it...he called me back saying another man would take care of my problem. the guy would call the next day with answers.. 4 days later went by and finally got his call with no answers. A week later we found out what they told me was all untrue and they didn't know why Rheem had not sent heater. A few weeks later and much interaction up the chain of command, we found out that the company (Rheem had had to halt production and had made a mistake and unit would be available SOON. Finally, the water heater was installed on 3/7/2012 after 4 months runaround and what I considered were right out non truths. In addition no personal apology was ever made, but I sure was made to payt high prices for their incompetence at office level. The actual work was very high quality and friendly..the unit has saved me money and works unbelievably well a year later. However, I would not ever get this bunch to do any work for me in the future. Reason Non-professional and poor communicators. Back orders and slow response to no response left us highly unsatisfied. Unresponsiveness led us to do our own research concerning the back order as well as coaching them to continue to be persistent in seeking to fill our order. It seemed more to be an issue for us rather than for them. When our hot water heater finally arrived, the staff installing it was professional.
Description of Work: Replacement of water heater and installation of conduit to displace heat. Inserted a new flue for gas hot water heater through the chimney in Dec 2011 in a timely fashion. Ordered new gas hot water heater (combination of fast heat and lower volume of water) with tremendous energy and cost savings. We found it online and ordered it through them.

Thank you for the comments regarding your water heater. I am glad to hear it is working efficiently and that you are happy with the end result. I apologize again for the issue. I am surprised though that our response last year when this all came up didnt change any of your perspective, however I asked Rheem again to respond in writing to your comments, & as you can see in their letter the heater was in fact advertised before it had been produced for distribution and this would also explain our lack of awareness of it. Here is their response: I would like to apologize on behalf of Rheem Water Heating Company for the delay in receiving the XR90 water heater that you had on order for so long. I am glad to hear that after the long wait that it is performing to your liking and continues to be a good purchase. When Rheem began advertising this product, like many other manufacturers, the product hadn’t been released from production yet. It was finishing going through some third party testing to be able receive the certifications that it currently holds. Once the testing was done and they began to ship product it came to their attention, from the field, that they were having a burner issue and that production needed to be halted while they fixed the issue. Once resolved, they began producing and shipping the heaters again. I believe this is why you had the issue of receiving the product in a timely manner and a lot of the confusion in communication between us, our distribution and McElroy’s. McElroy’s has been a long time and valued partner of Mack McClain and Rheem. Again, I apologize for the delay in receiving your new XR90 Rheem water heater. Sincerely, Jamey Shibel Mack McClain and Associates Representing Rheem Water Heaters

McElroy's service and professionalism is probably the highest in Topeka and certainly tops with me, although their fees are also high. I got what I paid for, and I'm certain that the plumbing and wiring will outlast the house itself. All of the techs were courteous and professional and were happy to explain the various steps of both the electrical and plumbing work.
Description of Work: I've used McElroy's twice. The first time, during July, 2008 they wired a new garage and excavated a trench to my house to connect it to the garage (and power source) via underground conduit. During the second service call, they completely replumbed a rental house, installed a 220v water heater, and ran new electrical lines to the kitchen and bathroom. There was a question before the techs started to work as to whether they'd need to excavate from the house to the water meter, but they quickly determined that copper pipe had been used to connect the house to the water system, thus saving me over a thousand dollars in expense.

I have a service policy with them that they come out twice a year and such. They do a great job and I have been using them for a long while. They have excellent service. They also went above and beyond to help us on pricing with a new furnace we purchased a few years ago.
Description of Work: I use them twice a year to tune up my furnace and air conditioner. They also removed a birds nest from the piping.
