Working with John Friess began in July when we discovered black mold in the original furnace and asked him about replacing it. I was upfront and told John I hoped to save money by procuring the equipment on-line and wanted a bid on the installation. John was extremely polite and kind, and worked with me on scheduling the install late in the fall. He even helped me delete unnecessary equipment from my order, saving me $350. His crew of 4-5 was punctual, polite and very proficient. They came one day prior to the install to examine the equipment and determine any retrofitting with the existing ductwork and extra sheetmetal parts they would need to fabricate. Like any remodel of a 34 yr old home, situations arose during the install. They quickly found solutions and created what was needed. Chris removed old conduit and pipes, moving the new ones through the basement wall to the outside unit -- in such a way that it's much more efficient and has easier access. The bid for the install was exactly the amount charged, even though there was extra work and fabricating involved. We also had John's crew install a vented range hood that day. They were very efficient and acted like any 'burp' in the plan was nothing. Every new problem was immediately handled and a solution was created. When the Westar Wattsaver tech came to install the digital thermostat (a freebie, so I didn't purchase one), I found that the left and right hand hadn't communicated. Explained: what the customer service reps, the field supervisor, the two other techs had told me in 5 phone calls, was exactly the opposite of what the new tech told me. SO, he couldn't /wouldn't install a thermostat. I was concerned because the weather forecast called for our first freeze (actually 30 degrees that night). I called John Friess, at about noon, "John I need a thermostat today, but I'll be out until 4:00." No problem, Chris arrived punctually at 4:01 and stayed until the job was done...about 6:00. He installed a better Honeywell thermostat, with the external temperature sensor, cut extra return air vents to handle the larger system, and completed about 15 pages of warranty information for me. These guys are the best! When I discovered we needed a new furnace, I asked three different people who they recommended. They all said, John Friess. Their additional comments were, "John is a man of his word, and his word is always good. If John says you need something, it's the truth. We've had John do the HVAC on all the houses we've built. He's fair and will treat you right." What else is there to say?
Description of Work: John and his crew installed a new electric heat pump system, re-configured lines and ductwork to be more efficient, and came back November 2 to install a new digital thermostat (after the Westar WattSaver didn't. But that's another story.) I've been the general contractor on our remodel, and like to ask questions and know how things work by nature. So, I really appreciate having a professional who takes the time to explain everything....John, Chris, Mike, the entire crew were exceptional!
