Ball Custom Kitchens

PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ THIS !!!!!!!! We met with Russ the owner and owner of Balls custom kitchens in August of 2013 We talked about what we wanted to have done , 1 - pantry type of cabinet and granite counter tops. We went to Lenexa Ks. to pick out our counter tops , then we went back to Balls to finalize everything and get our cost of doing the job. I was told we needed to put down half before they could start the job or tell us when it could be installed. About a week later I went to balls to give them there 50% they required, they said the quote they gave me was wrong and it would be 200.00 more than they quoted me. This is when I meet Lavonne , Russ the owners wife. After Russ sells the job you deal with her and he is not in the picture any longer. When I told her that there quote was different than what I was given she said " I don't know why you are squabbling over 200.00 " . I ended up splitting the cost with them. After I paid the 50% I was given an install date of Oct.21st , which was a 6 week wait, I wasn't sure why it took 6 weeks to build 1 cabinet but what are you going to do? That was the last contact I had with them until Oct. 17th when I called them to make sure we were still on for our install on the 21st . Lavonne wasn't sure and was going to call the cabinet maker to see and would call me back. When she called she said it would not be here on that Monday and said my new install date would be the Friday the 25th in the afternoon so I took off work so I could be here that day. I called her back on Thursday the day before the our install date just to make sure everything was going as planed that's when I was told it still wasn't ready and it would be the following week ,but because I had told them earlier that I was having other contractors at my house that week it would be Monday Nov. 4th. They never said they were sorry in fact I thought Lavonne was probley one of the rudest people I have ever delt with. On Nov. 4 I came home from work excited to see my new cabinet and all that was there was a shell of a cabinet it had no doors and no shelves an no trim . I called balls right away and was told that the door was damaged and they had to order another one, I ask why no one called me and told me about this and as usual all I got was exscuses and a bad attitude. A week later when my new door was to be put on again I came home excited to see it, I opened up the door and the shelves were lying on the bottom of the cabinet and still no trim . When I called them to find out why Lavonne said they couldn't put on the shelves because they didn't have the pins and were going to have to make another tip out to my house to finish the work. again she was very rude and I didn't receive a phone call from them. Finally 2 days later my cabinet was in and now we could start the timplate for the granite. The granite took 2 weeks to cut and install , everything went fine with it. I found the whole process dealing with Lavonne very draining , her attitude was rude at best. and they did not stay in good contact at all. If wasn't for us calling them we wouldn't have known anything. BUT the very next day after the job was complete I received a phone call and a fax wanting to know when they were going to get the other 50% of there money. If you are planning to do cabinets and/or countertops save yourself some agrivation call a cabinet company and have them do your cabinet and call a granite company to do your countertops

I highly recommend Russ. He has a great temperament. He was incredibly patient with us. Took time to find out what we wanted Provided excellent ideas and layouts. We even through curve balls at him by hiring a stain glass artist to do some custom stained glass for one of our kitchen cabinets. Russ worked diligently and thoroughly to get these incorporated into our cabinets without any extra charges. The quality was excellent for semi-custom all wood cabinetry. We shopped around, and his prices were better than any other similar custom cabinetry we found in the area. He installed cabinets made right here in Kansas, and we are very happy with the quality. We are happy customers and would highly recommend Russ.

They were very responsive. The gentleman that they sent out was very thorough. He offered a lot of good suggestions. He did the bid in a very timely manner. We requested some changes and we got those changes back right away. There are two reasons why we did not go with them. One was the price, just being exorbitant for a small bathroom remodel because we weren’t rearranging anything. So everything was going to stay exactly in the same place and there was no restructuring of the room. It was simply surfing to the sheetrock and coming out again. So it was too much money. I would not find anything online, good or bad. Even if we had proceeded with the bid I just could not have done it without knowing anything about them since I had heard way too many horror stories. If we continue to stay in this house we would consider using them in the future if we could learn more about them. They were willing to provide referrals but I don’t like to go to the company for referrals because they are not going to give me anybody that was unhappy. That would have defeated the purpose.
