Dusty's Hardwood Floors Service

Dusty, Derek and Crawford really went above and beyond when working on our floor. It became very evident the first day that these guys care how their work is perceived by everyone who will see it. I got three bids for the job and, not only was Dusty's the lowest (by far), he was also the only one who really seemed interested in the work. He was always cheerful when I spoke with him and listened to our needs. Dusty and his team were always punctual and got the job done exactly when they said it would be done. The final bill was a little higher than the bid, but only because I asked for a couple of additional pieces that had not gone into the original estimate (i.e. a fourth coat of finish and the use of the hardest finish they had because of our dogs). Even the, the final bill was still almost $1k lower than the next higher estimate! We are supremely happy with the work that this company did, and I have already told Dusty that I will be calling him when we are ready to refinish other wood in the house. He also took time to tell me how to properly care for the floor and what services he is able to provide in maintenance, but he was also very willing to share DIY maintenance tips that will do the same job that he could do. That certainly does not always happen. Bottom line, if you're looking to have wood floors refinished or installed you should at least let Dusty provide an estimate. It will certainly be worth the time!

Dusty was very professional. Always on time for appts. He gave me the estimate and answered all my questions Pricing was just what he said it would be. The work was done quickly by the crew. I really appreciated how they cleaned up everyday so well. When done with the floors I added the banister at the last moment. They had to come back for that but again everything went very smoothly. I would use them again for sure and recommend to all. So glad that I did this! Wish I would have done years ago because it looks so wonderful.

He did an excellent job and was very polite and considerate. I couldn't have asked for more. I discovered small problem last month, and he has already arranged to fix it.

After 30 plus years and two leaking dishwashers, it was time to replace the engineered hardwood floor in our kitchen. We had been informed that the existing one could not be repaired and stained again. So, we considered both hard wood and tile, and sought estimates. We quickly decided not to use engineered wood. Estimates were provided by Dusty and another company we had used previously. As well, a tile company with which we had used provided an estimate as well. We eliminated tile as an option because of aging backs and knees and the price of the job. We chose Dusty over the other company because of so many positive reviews on Angie's List, an estimate hundreds of dollars less, and the $150 coupon he provides for Angie's List members. Once the choice was made, everything went as planned. Dusty always showed up when he said he would, both for the estimate and the days it took to complete the job. His explanations were thorough, and he kept us apprised during the entire operation. Dusty, his brother, and another worker showed up on a Tuesday and tore out the old floor. We especially appreciated his prep work. He pointed out some water damage near the sliding glass door that they repaired. They spent an impressive amount of time eliminating all the squeaks that were in the subfloor. Finally, he installed a water barrier, apparently a requirement, but something the builder had not done. Once the floor was installed, he showed us 4 possible stain colors from which we could choose. The stain was applied the next day followed by the first coat of sealer. Two more coats of sealer were applied. At this writing, we are waiting to move our furniture back into the kitchen, as Dusty was very specific how long the newly stained and sealed floor would take to completely dry. We were very satisfied with the job from start to finish. Dusty and crew were always professional, courteous, friendly, and informative. We look forward to years of use for our new floor.

Dusty and his crew where prompt,courteous and most of all very knowledgeable about hardwood flooring. They turned 57 year old floors back to new looking. If they tell you they will be there at 7am trust me by 6:55 they are. Very pleased with the floors and Dusty's hardwood floor service. Kept everything clean and tidy. Wife's very very happy. In summary, Dusty and his team are AWESOME. A+ from start to finish. We had some of our floors refinished last year using a different company. That experience was terrible for numerous reasons ? timeliness, safety, communication, workmanship, fumes, additional costs, so I was dreading going through it again for the rest of our house. I found Dusty on Angie?s List. Reviews were very positive, so we decided to give them a chance. Dusty was responsive, timely and reliable from the moment I set up an estimate appointment. He said it would take three days, and that is exactly what it took. The team arrived on time the first day and began work immediately. They carefully moved all of the furniture and taped off every nook and cranny to avoid getting sanding dust anywhere. Dusty was so responsive to all of my questions ? answering back immediately even if after business hours. Given our past experience with the previous company, Dusty?s team?s attention to detail and consideration was hugely appreciated ? from minimizing disruptions to our family -to keeping our house spotless while they worked ? to making sure any smells were minimal for my children - to delivering an amazing finished product ON TIME/ON BUDGET. The entire experience exceeded my expectations from every aspect. In addition to their incredible workmanship, the team is unbelievably pleasant, considerate and trustworthy. I have never written a review for anything before, but after this experience, I felt compelled to spread the word. I would highly highly recommend Dusty and his team. I spoke with and obtained bids from 6 of the higher rated floor companies on Angie's List. After speaking with all and comparing bids, it was very clear in my mind that Dusty was the obvious choice. While he wasn't the lowest bid, he was very competitive and with something this big, price can't be the only factor. I could not be more pleased with the job that he, Derek and David did. They were incredibly flexible with a moving date target. You couldn't ask for a more respectful and courteous group of guys and the job they did was stunning. I relied on his opinion and expertise quite a bit and he was extremely patient in explaining the pros and cons of all the options.. I am completely renovating my house. As you might guess, it's been hit or miss on a lot of the service providers. But of all the companies I've worked with, Dusty and his group has been the best in terms of over delivering an incredible product. Dusty did it again! Goodbye dated Golden Oak glossy scratched floors! Hello Spice Brown satin smooth beauty! Dusty just performed a second floor refinish for me (different house) and, as usual, did an outstanding job! Dusty and his crew are prompt, professional, fast, and thorough. On top of that, Dusty's cost is reasonable. I won't name any names, but I was required to have a bid done by the insurance company's preferred vendor, and that bid was $700 higher than Dusty's price. Deciding to have your hardwood floors refinished can be intimidating--you want it done right, preferably quickly, but you don't know how much you should pay or who to call. Dusty is now "my floor guy", my first (and only) call for hardwoods, and I tell everyone who asks. Dusty is an artist with integrity.

OK, here is the summary first, then the details. 1) If you own dogs, do NOT use Dusty?s. 2) If you want quality workmanship, do NOT use Dusty?s 3) If you want the job done right the first time, do NOT use Dusty?s. 4) If you just want to talk with a pleasant enough guy, talk to Dusty. This review is about the company, not Dusty personally. We are empty-nesters who have lived in this home for 22 years. 10 years ago, we had the floors routinely refinished and everything has been fine. Never had issues with the original floor or the second refinish. Nothing. No scratches, wear problems. We have always had 2 dogs. We currently have a Golden & a Cavachon. Early last September, my wife and I came home to major water damaged wood floors in the kitchen. We had the floor professionally dried out. We also decided to have Dusty?s replace carpeting in our family room with wood. After inspecting the damaged area, Dusty said it was dry enough for him to start work. He began work the week of November 11th. After that, everything went down hill. The floor finish was installed incorrectly - not properly cured, admittedly by Dusty. (His quote: ?"sticky" residue on one of the layers.? So the floor was redone for the first time the week of Thanksgiving. As requested by Dusty, both times we kept our dogs totally off the floor and walked using socks only. He asked us to asked to stay off the floors for 1-2 weeks and no carpets for 30 days. Seemed excessive, but we did it. After we stayed off the floor for the allotted time that Dusty asked for, we let our dogs on the floor. Everywhere they walked, it left tiny scratches. The floor looked horrible. Dusty came out quite s few times and said ?Well, your dogs are very tough on your floors.? Those same dogs were on the same floors for years and we NEVER had an issue. Dusty kept telling us the floors looked so bad because of our dogs. I just couldn?t accept that answer since it was never a problem before he refinished the floors. So he came back and redid the floors a second time again the week of January 13, 2014. This was his 3rd attempt. After the allotted time staying off the floors, we went back to trying to use our home again. But guess what? Same problems, even worse. Anything that moved on the floor left a mark...even skid protectors. He said do not use your $500 Dyson, but buy a Shark steam mop. We did. Same issue. Everything left a mark. He kept stating it?s the dogs that are the problem. Yes, they marked the floor but so did everything else. He stayed focused on the dogs, which will probably be his response to this review. Perhaps we should make our 100% inside dogs and stay outside? I think not. As a side note, we recently used a dog sitter for our two dogs. She sits dogs nearly every week. Here floors are hardwood and the floors looked great! Humm! The floors just continued to look worse. He came by a few times to look at the floor and on March 31, brought a finish ?expert.? They both just stood around looking a little confused and shaking their heads. They saw the problems, but ?it was the dogs.? Not! We bought every tool and cleaning fluid he recommended and nothing worked. The floor just kept on looking getting worse every day. So after 3 refinishings, he came out and did a professional buffing of the floor. Right after he left it looked ok, but then I noticed this his professional buffer even left marks! And now somehow there were 2 or 3 small divots in our floor. So I called him again. I never once asked for any fiscal compensation, only a good workmanship. At that point he said, ?there is nothing I can do.? Basically, I?mdone with you. So now, over the past couple of months, the hardwood flooring has started to cup. We have had no additional water damage. You can feel the floor roughness when you walk on it with your socks. And as I now inspect the floor even closer, there are places I should have noticed earlier where the new floor seams are just not right. I guess my expectations had been focused on the finish, not the actual floor. Have I contacted him about this issue again recently? No. He basically told me there was nothing else he could do. So now I am looking at other hardwood floor refinishers to come and totally redo the floors. Would I have him come and redo the floors again if he offered? Probably not since he couldn?t get it right in over 3+ attempts. I?ll just pay up to have someone else do the floors so they will be just like the floors we had for the past 20 years. Regarding the issue of price. Dusty?s was not the cheapest, but we went with him anyway. The ?F? rating on price is because I wouldn?t have paid a nickel to get the floors we have today. Responsiveness rates an ?F? because this whole issue was never resolved to our satisfaction. The entire process was a fiasco. We were totally inconvenienced for weeks (spread out of 3 different times) in our primary living space. Why am I waiting until now to post? I am sick of waking up every morning to a floor that looks this awful. Plus my wife is extremely disappointed in the in the outcome and is not happy about spending additional money to get the floor she can feel proud of when she entertains. I?m sure Dusty will respond to this review, but I can certainly attest to these facts, some of which are documented in email and text messages. Buyer Beware!

Dusty put wood floor throughout our kitchen and breakfast area and did a great job. I would recommend him to anyone having work done.

We love our new hardwood floors! And so glad we hired Dusty to install them. We had several different contractors provide us with estimates for flooring -- and let?s just say the phrase you have only 3 seconds to make a first impression rings true! This is why we choose Dusty Hardwood Flooring. From the moment he rang the doorbell and entered our home, we were impressed and felt completely at ease. He was honest, friendly, professional, and didn't waste any time with those annoying sales pitches and/or putting down other flooring vendors. Took the time to answer all our questions and concerns. We received his estimate later that day, which was comparable to the others we received . After a few weeks of debating, then changing my mind about where we were going to install flooring, Dusty kindly came right back out, re-measured, and provided another quote same day. He wasn't at all annoyed that it took me weeks to get back with him on decision of the original quote. He did have a full schedule, so had to wait about 6 weeks before he could do the work. Worth the wait! They were onsite everyday and always on time. Once they started installing the floors, he gave us a rundown of what would happen that week. Of course once they were done removing the tile from the entry way I changed my mind again! Now I wanted them do the entire room-- which included the living room as well. I knew they had a tight schedule, and was a little afraid to ask if they could go ahead and do the entire room instead of the one section as it would probably delay other jobs they had scheduled. But Dusty acted as if it was not issue?may have put him back a few hours but advised they could do it. So he went over the options, cost, and quickly assured me it can be done, no problem. Long story short, they delivered! The house looks fantastic! Will use them again.. BTW, husband just loves teasing Dusty via text ? after the floors were installed and they were enjoying the rest of their 4th of July holiday-- he sent a text to him saying somethiing to the effect "are the floors suppose to be bubbling up?" About gave poor Dusty a heart attack?but that?s how comfortable we were with Dusty, his brother Derrick, and David.

Started on time, finished on time. Minimized dust during installation. Made adjustments for unforseen conditions (floors not level and new underlayment installed to enable level transition to tile flooring). After completion of the installation the floors looked excellent.

Dusty was a pleasure to work with. I met with him for the initial consultation - we wanted the wood endcaps that go with the carpet runner up the stairs plus installation of iron spindles. He explained the process they would perform and was very patient with the normal question and answers I had for him. He also let me know if my husband had additional questions/concerns to contact him (was given cell phone and email address), and was prompt with getting back to us. Dusty advised us to go with the full treads - the price of installing the full treads versus the endcaps was comparable and have a more finished look. We had new carpet installed in the rooms adjacent prior to scheduling the stairway work - they took extra care to cover the carpet and hung tarps as dividers to keep the rooms clear of the excessive dust/debris. My husband worked from home the days Dusty and his crew were there - when I came home at night, the work area was as clean as a work area in progress could be (no extra remants, dirt, debris). We did find we needed some additional customwork that was outside the inital proposal - he advised us of options and any addtional costs. They were willing to do what we wanted them to do and fit any addtional work into the scheduled time frame. For the scuff coating on the hardwoods, he let us know that spots could be missed and to just let us know and they would be by to do any requried touch ups. True to their word, they fit us in for touchups in a very reasonable amount of time after we contacted them. Dusty and his crew were prompt, professional and clean - we have already passed his name on as referral to others who have considered having woodwork done in their homes.

Dusty is very professional, punctual and patient. He promptly returns calls and is willing to accommodate your schedule. He and his long time team are honest and trustworthy. He is kept very busy which speaks highly to the quality of his work! Beautiful job!!

UPDATE- When Dusty told us he would not be able to do our project, he gave us the idea of cork flooring for our home. We loved this idea and decided that this would be a great solution for us. Based on his recommendation, we hired a different contractor to do the flooring installation. But, we were so impressed with Dusty?s bid on the trim portion and his process for trim carpentry, we asked if he would be willing to still do the trim for us and he agreed. Dusty does not go to Home Depot and just buy cheap trim off the shelf. He makes it out of high quality poplar and paints it with high quality, oil based paint to give you a superior product that will last a lifetime. He is able to give you a custom profile to fit your home and he has a great team of skilled craftsmen who take a lot of pride in a job well done. Our baseboards look so great, I can?t stop looking at them! More than any of this, Dusty is a genuinely NICE person who was so kind and patient with us throughout our very difficult project. We had to re-schedule our original date due to several different issues and he was always very calm and reassuring that it was all going to work out fine. And it did! Dusty was very personable and detailed in our initial conversations about bidding on our project. We live in a concrete slab home which unfortunately had the original asbestos tile and some sheet linoleum under carpeting. We wanted to either float an engineered wood floor over the tile & linoleum, or lay it over the concrete if the other materials needed to be removed. He (like others flooring contractors we talked to on Angie's List) insisted that he would not be able to agree to going forward with the job until the carpet was gone and he could see how flat the floor was. After we removed the carpet and padding in most of the house, he came back to check the floors with his level. He found the floors to be unsuitable for the installation and told us he would not do the job because it would not be up to the specifications needed for an engineered wood floor to last for a long time without warping, etc. However, he offered us a number of good alternative ideas for flooring surfaces that we had not thought of, which were very informative and helpful; even though he would not be able to provide those services himself. We feel he was committed to helping us with figuring out a good solution to our flooring situation, even though we had never paid him to do anything. We would recommend Dusty to anyone based on his honesty and his commitment to high standards and good service. His high ratings and service awards here on Angie's List are well-deserved.

Dustin was very polite. & professional. He did not seem to be rushing through the appointment and answered all of my questions in a very polite way. I decided to go with a different company that moved furniture but Dustin's company was definitely in the running!

Great experience. We are getting the house ready to put on the market and time is critical. Since he already had a job in Lee's Summit, he and his men worked us in. We truly appreciate that. The floor is 26 years old and was sun-faded and finish worn completely off by the deck door. He warned me that some of the sun fade would show, but that he would do his best. (He was wrong; you can't tell at all any difference in the area that was bleached and the part that wasn't). The floor looks amazing! It looks brand new. Dusty and his crew were on time, took plenty of time to explain what he would do, the time frame for the work and what to expect. From start to finish, it was a great experience. Dusty is a consummate professional. Scheduling conflicts were the chief reason we decided to go with another provider (we had a very specific window in which the work needed to be done post-closing). However, I cannot say enough good things about the impression Dusty made, how knowledgable he is, and how absolutely professional he conducted himself. Of a handful of providers coming to give an estimate, Dusty was the only one to arrive on time--early, in fact. His took care to give a thorough, detailed estimate in a very timely manner. He was the first of the day, and his keen eye, attitude, and knowledge definitely set a high standard for the others to measure up against. While his was the highest estimate, the price was not exorbitantly above the others and we had no doubt that we'd be getting workmanship of the highest calibre for it.

Dusty and his brother are extremely professional and dedicated to their work. They are extremely dependable and do a top notch job. If you want one word for how our floors turned out it would be PERFECTION. Their communication skills are wonderful and they would tell us each day what to expect the next. We have had hardwood flooring work done before by other companies and nothing compares to the quality these guys do. I am so happy we used them. I would most definitely recommend this company. A joy to work with - pleasant and a good communicator as well as efficient and professional in all aspects of the job. He went above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction and all materials and workmanship were of the highest standards. His bid was more than reasonable (making it an even more pleasant experience). I was out of town during the process and he sent me pictures every evening of the progress to date! This is one of very few reviews I have ever bothered to write but he deserves multiple accolades. You can't go wrong with Dusty!

Dusty's crew was professional, punctual and courteous. They did a quality job on everything they touched. When the posts that were available did not work with our look he found posts from a custom wood shop in Liberty and drove all the way there to pick them up. This was in the opposite direction from where he needed to go but wanted the job done to our liking and on time. At every step of the project he would check in with us to make sure it was what we wanted. I would hire him again without hesitation. My wife and I have done several major renovations to property that we own and he was by far the easiest contractor that I have worked with. In our opinion it would be a mistake to hire anyone else.

We would have gone with Dusty but he didnt have an appointment for about a month and a half so we decided to go with another company. Dusty came over a few times to go over questions that we had and was very professional. I recommend Dusty and his company as we would have gone with them but went with somebody else due to scheduling (which is a good thing for him as he has lots of business).

Dusty's personnel were punctual, clearly explained the entire process, did excellent work and cleaned up everything once the job was completed. The floors look beautiful. We would highly recommend Dusty's to anyone who needs hardwood floors refinished.

They did a great job. The entryway looks beautiful. The repair was on a pegged floor, and that is a challenging match, but it looks really good. We are very pleased with the work.

Dusty and Derek did a great job. Excellent communication before we even hired them. We'd had an appliance leak, and when I called Dusty for a bid, he gave me lots of information about making sure the floor was completely dry, and how to know whether or not the dry-out company did a good job. Long story short, that info made a huge difference in the outcome. He spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me, even before he had the job. Once we hired them, they were very punctual, professional, and thorough. The thing I appreciated most was how quickly he got back to me with every question. When we moved back in, we saw what we thought was a flaw in the finish, and they were here right away to check it out. Turned out to be just a glare from a window, but they were all over it right away, ready to make it right. Everything was done exactly as agreed, and on time.
