The furniture was carefully removed and the carpet was removed without any problem. The flooring was installed over about 6 days. I had requested that the quarter round be stained to match the existing wood work and the installer agreed. However, after the floor was installed, the installer said he was unable to stain the quarter round to match the wood work because he said the wood work's color varied too much. He suggested staining it, instead, to match the floor and I agreed. It doesn't really match the floor that well and I don't think it looks very good having a quarter round that is a different color from the baseboard that it touches. I think a more skilled installer would have been able to stain it to match the base board (Later in the year I had someone else installed a new door and this required installing some new wood work. That craftsman was able to stain the new pieces to match the old wood work). A week after the floor installation was completed we noticed that some of the wood flooring had cracks and/or was splintering where the wood planks came together to the point that the stained surface had come off in spots or was about to come off. It took repeated phone calls over a month for installer to come out and look at the problem. He said he could fix it by sanding it and touching it up with stain. He made several attempts over several weeks but the result was that he made the problem worse by enlarging the damaged area. After several months of getting the run around, the store where I purchased the flooring, Designer's Library, sent out someone else to assess the problem. This man repaired it by removing the damaged planks and replaces it with new ones. This was five months after the job was initially finished. Over the next few months we found other planks that have small splinters where two planks meet. They are not as severely damaged as the first ones we found. We believe this splintering is due to incorrect installation. We have not contacted the installer or the store about this. Instead, he have fixed it ourselves.
