The A/C area was depressed and we needed to raise the air conditioner. We needed to bring in dirt to raise the area and reinstall the A/C. The front yard needed to be leveled out and we needed to bring in dirt to raise the area. The recessed areas were due to an additional concrete patio and new driveway. The previous owner had not fixed the grade. Land Escapes brought in 5-8 tons of dirt. They also coordinated finding an A/C company to do the disconnect and reconnect. They scheduled that all for me. Land Escapes also hauled off all of the brick that was in the area of the A/C that was not wanted. The front yard was leveled and new sod was added. Very please with the final product. Most of it was completed in a day with mulching completed a few days later. The crew was very efficient. Brette was very professional and visited the property twice before the work commenced to work out details which was appreciated. I recommend Land Escapes for landscaping needs.

Professional from start to completion. All via email until he called the morning they came out to let us know that he was on his way out. Very patient with all my emails:-) First time using them. Small job of only 14 large Mums to plant, water in, clean up and they surprised us by putting mulch around each plant. I had not mentioned this, even though I KNOW I needed it:-) I initially contacted Brett via email through his website. I found him on Angie's list and he emailed me back quickly. My husband is now waiting for a bid to redo our patio, etc. You will WANT to use this service!!

Wonderful! I couldn't've asked for a better group to work with! A+++ Brett showed up on time, worked with me on adding some extra things I decided I wanted done, quoted me and then performed wonderfully. The team was courteous, professional and had great attitudes. It was the hottest week we've had this summer with 100+ heat index and they worked diligently to get the large job done. Brett had great suggestions and good knowledge of gardening and landscape. He kept in good touch with me which was appreciated and let me know what they were going to be doing. He kept me up on the current pricing as I increased my original ask. Overall, they were great to work with and I am looking forward to the next project as I will use them again. I highly recommend them!
Description of Work: Brett and his team removed overgrowth from the garden, removed and filled in three ponds and a stream. cut down three trees, trimmed other trees, tilled the soil, mulched the beds, moved the stone from the ponds to line the beds.

It went well. The guy who runs it was good to work with. They were timely and I would give them high marks. They are honest, straightforward, did what they said they were going to do and when they were going to do it. The price was very competitive. I would give them top marks across the board. I would give them the highest rating.

Brett was easy to talk to, and is a good listener. He offered good suggestions while keeping in mind what I wanted the garden to look like. After looking at my sump pump situation, he suggested that it should be buried rather than pumping water on my patio. It looks really nice and so does the soil around the foundation. I definitely plan to have him landscape the front of my house next spring.
Description of Work: Brett provided landscaping for my backyard against the fence. He took out the overgrown plants, leaves, and debris before planting and mulching. He also buried my sump pump and put in top soil around the house foundation and A/C.

Brett and his crew handled the projects quickly and for the price agreed. I actually saved a little because he could not get quite the right size for a redbud. When I had questions, I emailed him, sometimes added pictures so he could give me advice on how to proceed. All the plants look fantastic this year. He and I did disagree on the placement of a tree and although he is the expert, he and I compromised so there were NO problems working together. I will use Land Escapes again and will recommend the company to friends/neighbors.
Description of Work: Created a landscaped bed, composted, mulched, installed a Limestone ledgerock retaining wall. Planted 12 different varieties of perennials (43 plants total). Added 5 trees to the property, all very nice sized trees. This was two projects completed 10 months apart.

Brett and I met about a week prior to discuss details. He arrived on time and immediately began asking questions. I think he quickly realized that we wanted something very simple and easy to maintain. He offered wonderful ideas, we agreed on a price, and scheduled the work to begin the following week. As promised, the crew arrived one week later. Upon arriving home that evening we were THRILLED!!! The work was just as promised and the area was immaculate. We could not be happier! What a pleasure it was to deal with such a professional company.
Description of Work: Brett and crew redid 2 existing plant beds and added another bed. In one of the existing beds they planted new bushes which will eventually form a hedge. In the other existing bed they added interest by planting 3 taller evergreen bushes. Here is the best part---In the new bed they reused some of my old landscaping. What a fantastic idea! Important to note: in order for the old beds to be planted, they had to remove a lot of river rock and replace it with mulch. We are also having two large pots planted just as soon as the weather cooperates. Can't wait to see those!

Brett and I walked the yard during our first visit and we kicked around several ideas and I told him what I definitely wanted and then left the rest to him. As he put it, curb appeal in front and cozy in the back yard. He put together the plan and I signed on the dotted line. The entire installation was done over an 8 day period and during horribly high temperatures in July, but that did not detour them from getting the job done. There was no slacking off and everyone was very friendly. I couldn't be happier with the way the work was conducted. They have since been very responsive to my questions, mostly about the irrigation system, and we have since added one more sprinkler head and a rain monitor to the system. We are a little worried about a couple of the dogwoods, but will wait for spring to see how they do, as there is still life in them. I'm amazed quite frankly that none of the plants actually died in the heat we had this summer and the crew didn't get sick, but they had plenty of water along and took shaded breaks as needed. I'm already thinking about a few more things I may have them do next spring. I was totally impressed with Brett and his crew from start to finish and would highly recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: Limestone wall in front of house was removed and reinstalled in backyard. Beautiful new Anchor Highland beveled rock retaining wall was installed in front of house. Irrigation system was installed in front and back yard. Installed black plastic edging around entire back yard and part of front yard. Had a sub contractor install a stamped concrete patio off the deck and reused the dirt removed there to fill in behind the limestone retaining wall in the back yard. Removed old Forsythia along back fence line. Installed premium hardwood dyed mulch in all of the landscaped beds and then planted trees and flowers in the front and back beds including Dogwood trees, Yews, Oakleaf Hydrangea, Hosta, Juddi Viburnum, Purple Heuchera, Knockout Shrubroses. They transplanted the Daylilies from the back yard to the front, and moved the Iris bed to two new spots, existing Hostas, and ornamental grass. They also cut off the tops of my old clothes line poles so I could install a couple of spinners I had purchased at a craft fair. I've since painted the remainder of the poles to match the spinners, a sunflower and a KSU wildcat.

Brett came out and discussed what we were looking to change with our landscaping. He then drew up a plan and came back out to discuss the plan and price. Brett was very responsive to questions and changes we wanted to make from the initial plan. He had good suggestions on how the wall should look. He left the plan with us so we could refer to the plantings he suggested. He and his team were very easy to work with. We have recommended them to others.
Description of Work: They tore out a raised flower bed, built a small retaining wall, and extended the landscaping beds around the side of the house. They also put some flagstone pavers coming through the gait. We did the plantings and took care to the mulch.

The completed project not only radically improved our home's "curb appeal" but gave our 25 year old residence the look of a new one. Yes, we'll be watering multiple times a day through the summer to protect and stabilize the investment but the relatively small incremental cost for water will insignificant to the updated look of our home. The reporter also had a Water One representative present and in his interview, commented that each circuit of the new irrigation system will cost about 6 cents to operate. (4 circuits, 8 minutes per circuit, 4 cycles per day is about $30 per month. ... hmmm, half a tank of gas? Summary: Do hire Land Escapes when it's time to renovate your landscaping. Don't try do DIY!
Description of Work: After two other contractors completed foundation repair and concrete replacement of the garage floor and driveway, Land Escapes removed all existing plants, shrubbery, hardscaping and grass from our property. They then prepared new planter beds and lawn area followed by an entirely new irrigation system. After installation of new plant material and hardscaping, Brett and his crew rolled out the new sod. (FOX 4 News, as part of package covering proper watering during the summer heat, featured Land Escape's work.)

Everything went good. They were so busy that it took some time for them to come out here. They were very professional and they did what we agreed upon. Their prices was comparable to other landscaping firms we got bids from. They always returned my phone calls and they gave me an estimate when they said they would which was pretty rare compared to the other places. They were responsive to us. They were upfront about it going to take a couple of months to come out.

Although only a concept proposal and cost etimate was provided, I found the service very professional.
Description of Work: Brett was very responsive and visited at length with my wife and I about a total landscaping job on the front of our house (in the $8000 price range). Brett prepared a very professional and complete landscaping proposal, including a nice color layout. I found Brett easy to work with, very knowledgable ...and the final price for his concept was certainly competitive with two other proposals we received. I have no doubt his concept would have turned out beautifully. In the end, however, my wife was taken with the color and overall concept of another firm. I would not hestitate to call Brett and Land Escapes for a proposal on any future work. Dave (Overland Park)

My wife and I were thinking about getting a retaining wall built in the front of our house to dress it up a bit, and to get rid of a steep slope that I never liked mowing. Brett was one of the first guys we called, sheerly out of dumb luck if nothing else. I also was going to have him bid out a patio as well, since we knew that would be pricey and weren't quite ready for that. Brett ended up with such a nice design for us, we decided to put the patio in and just get it all done at once. (We have a thing for scope creep too). Brett and his crew came out to the house the first morning exactly when they said they were going to be there, and starting removing the sod from the proposed construction area. Shortly after that, the concrete slab came out, and despite me wondering if the house was going to collapse, it never did. I guess concrete demo work isn't for the faint of heart. Once the slab was out, we got about a 10 day streak of rain and oppressive heat. There wasn't much they could do with the rain other than try and keep the area dry with tarps, but that was kind of a lost cause. Finally the rain broke, and they were able to continue with the project. It got REALLY hot for June, and they measured the windows at the rear of my house (tinted and reflecting back on them) at over 160 degrees. But they suffered through it, and got the area dug out and ready for 15 tons of AB3 as a substrate. Once all that was in, there were a few inches of sand installed. Then they compacted the sand, and started building out the pavers. The steps were completed, lights installed, and polymeric joint sand swept in, and then they went to the front of the house. The retaining wall only took about 2 days. They probably had around 11-12 working days on the whole project, and given the scope of it, that was pretty fast. Too bad the conditions were so dismal. It was tough waiting through the delays, but it was well worth it. We love our patio, and always get lots of compliments when people come over. Brett was patient through our multiple designs, very communicative, and always there when he said he was going to be. I've hired a lot of contractors in the last decade, and Brett is probably 1 of 2 or 3 I'd recommend. I recommend him every chance I get, and if you are considering having anything done with landscaping, paver work, or anything outdoor related, give him a call. His prices are competitive, but more importantly, his work is terrific.
Description of Work: Brett and crew ripped out an existing 12x14' concrete slab, and then built a large paver patio with a fire pit, and some landscape areas. Low-voltage lighting was installed on our multi-tier patio, and steps leading up to our front door. They also built a retaining wall for us in the front of our house, and moved a tree for us as well.

Our existing landscaping had been in place for 20 years, and was beginning to get out of hand with the amount of maintenance required. We contacted several Angie?s List landscapers for evaluations and proposals, one of which was Land Escapes. We made an appointment with owner/designer Brett, who looked over our property and listened intently to what our issues were with the existing landscaping, and what we were looking for in the new design. As we really didn?t know what we wanted (other than a low maintenance solution), Brett was given free rein to come up with a design to set our house apart from the other ten identical homes in our subdivision. And that he did! Within a week he met with us again, this time to review his design, which incorporated trees, shrubs, wild grasses and perennials, along with architectural elements utilizing large boulders and up-lighting. After considering the proposals from multiple landscapers, our decision came down to Land Escapes and one of Angie?s Lists? other valued companies. Both companies came highly recommended, both had competitive proposals and bids, and both had designs which were very impressive. It was a tough decision, almost a coin flip, but in the end we did not go with Brett and Land Escapes proposal, mainly due to it being a somewhat higher maintenance design than the competitor. HOWEVER, based on Brett?s professionalism and his comprehensive design, I would have no qualms about recommending Land Escapes if you are planning a landscaping renovation in the future!

Fantastic! Brett and his crew transformed my scrappy looking standard backyard into a series of curving flower beds along a perimeter fenceline working cotton burr compost into the soil and finishing it off with a layer of black satin mulch. Last year he did the same in my front yard for slightly less, and I was just as pleased.

Overall, it was fantastic. Brett, the owner, came and listened to our ideas and thoughts. He took those ideas and really conceptualized a plan that met our needs and visions. He was extremely punctual and helpful. It was a very pleasant experience overall. There were a few small items that I wanted follow-up on, and Brett was great about correcting those issues after the job was completed.

Brett graduated from KSU with a degree in landscape design and he drew up a beautiful, easy-care, plan for us to review. Brett's two-man crew soon got to work, starting with the flagstone patio buildout and the repairs to our walkways. The flagstone work took about 10 days total. Meanwhile, Brett selected and purchased the landscaping plants (a variety of rhododendrons, hydrangea, hosta, viburnum, and other perennials). Altogether, including the flagstone work, it took about 4 weeks to have the work done. Brett was very patient and answered questions that came up throughout the work. A couple of times, they accidentally cut through the wires for our invisible fence, but each time, Brett repaired the wires in short order. The flagstone patio is beautiful (pictures to come when spring arrives) and includes a 3-foot diameter fire pit, which makes us the hit of the neighborhood. The once barren dust bowl under the trees has been transformed into a tranquil area with blooms, shrubs and soft mulch underfoot. It's a perfect place to sit and read, watch birds, or just hang out in a hammock. Brett made sure that our existing sprinkler system was adjusted to reach all of our new plants. He coached us on plant care and even replaced a rhododendron that had died 4 weeks after the job was finished. I had been traveling throughout most of the work and when I got home, I was astounded. It was (and is, even in winter) beautiful. Brett and his crew even planted impatiens and sweet potato vine in my pots out front, which saved me the trouble! I was so surprised at this added touch. It was a great welcome-home present!
Description of Work: Our back yard has abundant natural trees, lots of shade (hard to get grass to grow) and we had an old fountain area filled with decorative gravel that we wanted replaced with a flagstone patio. We had lots of areas with no grass and old, dead shrubbery. In addition, we had some old flagstone walkways that needed repair. In the front yard, we had some overgrown shrubbery in a terrace built with railroad ties (very 80's). Brett did some landscaping and hardscaping for a close friend of ours and came highly recommended. We asked Brett to design a low-maintenance perennial garden with mulched areas around the trees in back, a flagstone patio, and a dry stack terrace garden for the front of our house. Brett's price was very reasonable compared to other estimates we'd received.
