Description of Work: John was on time and performed a detailed analysis of my foundation issues. He followed up with a email summarizing his findings and a quote to repair the issues. He did a nice job.

Description of Work: Above referenced vendo presented a very professional appearance. He proposed redoing a previous foundation repair done by others but offered to go a bit further. I chose to accept a solution offered by another vendor which is less costly and appears to me to make more sense. Basically the accepted solutionm from the other party is to elimnate basement water by diverting surface water from reaching the basement foundation wall. The above referenced vendor offered to remove basement water "AFTER" it entered the basement. My choice is to first attempt to head off the water flowing toward the basement "Before" it reaches the basement wall. If that fails I will consider an offer simular to the one presented by HEARTLAND BASEMENT AUTHoRITIES LLC.

Description of Work: They explained the issues and suggested repairs. Provided an estimate in a timely manner. We do not feel that the situation needs repair at this time. We may get another opinion in the future.

Description of Work: I had purchased a Deal for a reduced price on a basement inspection and estimate to solve our frequent flooding issues. John Coil of Heartland Basement Authorities came right on time, examined the basement inside and out, explained a lot of information about the problems in a very understandable manner, and I received the emailed recommendations and estimate a week sooner than expected. | |This kind of work has a lot of dollar signs attached, but I knew that going in! Based on what I do know, I think the estimate is reasonable for that quality of work, and so imagine that we'll be seeing HBA again in the future to solve the basement issues in our old house.

Description of Work: I purchased a basement inspection and water link plan from John Coil, the owner of Heartland Basement on June 9th. I was finally able to make an appointment with John for June 24th. John kept the appointment and promised me a report with estimates for some work but has not been in contact at all. I feel like I received no value for this Angie's List sale and request I be contacted to seek reimbursement for this valueless deal.

Description of Work: Owner extremely rude and unprofessional. We worked with one of his employees at first and he was very efficient and polite, then he left the company and the owner took over...what a change! He gave us a higher estimate, kept blaming us for things going wrong and I felt like he was bullying us. His workers were fine, but he was terrible. I would NOT recommend this company.

Description of Work: John Coil did an inspection of my foundation and gave me a written report of what problems he found and his recommendations of what should be done about them.

Description of Work: WHAT THEY DID: | |HBA performed two services for us. Per the A.L. Big Deal we purchased, they came out and did an evaluation of our foundation and the back side of our property and offered a proposal intended to eliminate water leakage. After reviewing their proposal, which we found to be reasonably priced compared to other quotes we'd received for comparable work, we agreed to hire them to do the work. | |The work they performed included the installation of a french drain and sheet drains on the exterior, along the area where water was entering our basement. The intention was to divert excess water away from the foundation, both to mitigate current leakage and to prevent future stress on the wall from the water build-up. On the interior, they installed a geo-channel system and new sump pump, which included the demolition of about 18" of concrete around the perimeter of one wall and two adjacent corners, installing the drain beneath, plus a water-proof barrier on the walls, then refilling with concrete. Lastly, they injected one large crack on an adjacent wall with epoxy. | |HOW IT WENT: | |Overall, HBA was thorough, professional and easy to work with. They performed the work in accordance with their proposal and did so in a very timely manner. They were responsive to our need to reschedule and arrived exactly when they said they would on the date we had set. According to my wife (who was present during the day while the work was being done), the workers were professional and respectful. They cleaned up well after themselves. (No bonus points for meeting expectations, but it's always a relief when they do. Many contractors come up short on basic responsibility and respect.) They do get bonus points for going above and beyond to avoid cutting our sprinkler lines (which they did not promise up front to do), which no doubt cost them some time, but saved us a few hundred dollars in repairs. | |I have a few critiques, which may or may not seem significant to fellow customers. It took a week or so to obtain the proposal, then another week to get answers to questions about it. When I asked in advance for a copy of their Terms & Conditions of service, they were not forthcoming in providing the information. We did not see a copy until after we had verbally agreed to hire them for the work and were sitting down to sign the paperwork. Many of the questions I had posed to John during the process of evaluating their proposal would have been answered by this document and would have been very helpful in our evaluation. | |My last critique is that we still have leakage in one area of our basement, so our problem is not completely solved. Although their proposal was for the purpose of mitigating the water leakage on the north and west sides of our basement, the only walls they could *guarantee* not to leak were those along which they installed the geo-channel/water barrier. Extending that to include the area where we're still seeing some leakage would have run us another $2000 (about $75/linear foot). While we ultimately got what we paid for, we are disappointed that the scope of HBA's proposal did not include all recommended work up front (only in the form of a disclaimer in the contract). If I ever have need of this type of service in the future, I will hire a structural or civil engineer to draw up an independent proposal and solicit competing contractor bids based on that proposal.

Description of Work: The original recommendation was to place a sump pump in basement for water problem. I explained that was not an option d/t the way my home is built. The owner stated the home is "overbuilt" which means it has extra thick walls and basement floors. |He did recommend placing a French drain but I felt that would note resolve the issues. |Another company recommended redoing the landscaping to absorb the water around the foundation which is probably the option I will chose in the near future.

Description of Work: They did an inspection of our foundation, on time, honest, prompt with the report. We did not need any further work done, but we only know that because of the inspection they did and report provided.

Description of Work: Gave an estimate for sump pump and wall channels. Haven't decided yet but they seem to be the best candidate.

Description of Work: Fixed house foundation by adding piers, filling cracks, and adding a sub pump. It took about a month to complete due to weather conditions and finishing up other jobs.

Description of Work: I had an old, rickety back deck dismantled in preparation for a backyard landscaping project. When it came down there were some gaps in the facia board. Via Angie's List I contacted three foundation repair companies. Given the time of year all were extremely busy but Heartland agreed to come out immediately and examine the problem. Upon further examination they discovered old termite damage and deficient old repair work. Heartland understood that I had to postpone the landscaping project and they told me that they would find time for me. Of course, with a century-old home there were other problems discovered. Heartland quickly brought them to my attention and despite some of the complexities, quickly came up with a number of solutions. The project took longer to complete then originally estimated but that was due to the issues that were subsequently discovered. Heartland did an excellent job. The owners were always responsive and the skilled work folks were friendly, efficient, professional and always left the job site neat and well organized. I'd use them again in a heartbeat.
