Caven Heating & Air Conditioning

Our central heat and air unit is ancient. I believe it is the original heating system which would make it around 60 years old. Amazingly enough, the heat works wonderfully. The cold air, however, is about 15 years old and loses Freon each year. We called Caven Heating and Air to get the cold going again. While we know the entire system should be replaced, the idea of the huge time and expense has been very daunting. We have worked with 2 other companies locally and have been very disappointed, leaving us distrustful of HVAC guys. Caven arrived promptly, assessed the problem, and told us what we already knew: We needed a new system. The HUGE difference, and the reason for this review, was that Mr. Caven explained our options in a way that finally made sense to us. He has a wonderful knack for taking such a complicated subject and breaking it down so the layman can understand, not only what part needs replaced, etc., but how that part affects the next, and the next. Because replacing and entire HVAC system takes 2-3 days, we decided to fill the freon now, and have him replace the system in September, when the weather would allow us to have neither heat nor air running. We are very happy with Mr. Caven's willingness to work with our scheduling, and his knowledge of his profession is exceeded only by his ability to explain it to a non-professional. The estimate he gave us for the new system seems low. As I said, we have had 2 other estimates locally. Both were nearly twice the amount Mr. Craven quoted for a higher efficiency system. I will try to remember to update after it's installation and let you know whether he was able to do the job within his quote. Mr. Caven and his helper were friendly, professional, CLEAN (if you've ever had an HVAC or Plumber in, you'll know how amazing that is) and very helpful. I rarely give top marks, as there is always room for improvement, but Caven gets as close to perfect as I'm willing to give anyone! His service call price was $55, which is very reasonable given the time he spent here. The only reason his score there is a B instead of an A, is that I could find absolutely now fault in any of the other categories. Since I never give perfect scores, that's what got the B. If Mr. Caven can install a brand new system in this huge house for the price he quoted us, I'll gladly bump that score up to an A and give out my first perfect review.
