TOM FRENCH CONSTRUCTION

My husband has severe inner ear disease with poor balance and could no longer climb the multiple stairs in our former home. We therefore had to find a different place to live and decided to build so we would have more time to sell this house. After looking at floor plans, homes, meeting with builders for over two years we chose Tom French Construction. The floor plans that he offered were what we were looking for and we were told that HE WAS A GOOD BUILDER. Our dream home which was built in 2009at a cost of $380,000.00 during the economic depression QUICKLY TURNED INTO A COMPLETE DISASTER AND OUR WORST NIGHTMARE EVER!!!! It was obvious to us even as inexperienced home builders that this house WAS SLAPPED TOGETHER AS QUICKLY AND CHEAPLY AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT ANY REGARD FOR QUALITY. The extensive list of problems that we have had to deal with include: large gaps and no flashing on the exterior siding, loose tiles and shower base in the master bathroom, poor functioning exterior faucets with loose attachments that wiggle in and out of the outside siding, air leaks and gaps around the majority of our windows, entry and deck doors that did not fit and seal properly with bent door frames, lack of insulation beneath the kitchen cabinets that allow cold wind to blow into our kitchen in the winter, squeaking floor joists in the basement, air leaks throughout the house, severe drainage problems in the back yard leading to such soggy condition our feet sink into the mud, and lack of any insulation/ventilation in the garage. These issues have been discussed with Mr. Tom French the so-called builder and his associates including the individual that was supposed to be supervising the subcontractors as the home was being built. Minimal to NO EFFORT has been made to correct these problems due to the refusal of Mr. French to acknowledge that these were the result of POOR CONSTRUCTION BY HIS CREW. We therefore have been forced to fix these problems ourselves AT OUR OWN EXPENSE so that we could at least live in this POORLY CONSTRUCTED HOME. We had to hire a landscape company to properly grade the yard for drainage, along with replacing seven defective windows that were leaking air and with defective locks. More recently we had to replace the front entry door and two exterior deck doors because the doors Mr. French installed did not fit properly due to bent door frames with persistent air leaks. The leakage was SO SEVERE THAT WE HAD TO STUFF WEATHER STRIPPING IN INTO THE DOOR GAPS THAT MADE THE DOORS COMPLETELY NOT USEABLE. ALSO THE LEAKS OF AIR IN THE WINTER CAUSED FROST TO BUILD UP ON THE INNER DOOR HARDWARE AND HAD TO BE SCRAPED OFF OF THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR WITH AN ICE SCRAPER. The contractor that we hired to replace the doors found that not only were the door frames bent but Mr. French did not insulate the frames and that the concrete under the rear of our home WAS BOWEDLEADING TO THE POOR FIT OF THE OLD DOORS. These finding were presented to Mr. Tom French personally along with pictures of the bowed concrete and bent door frames. He came to our house to visualize these frames prior to the new door installation. MR. FRENCH CONTINUES TO DENY THAT THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS HOUSE ARE DUE TO POOR CONSTRUCTION BY HIM AND HIS CREW. The building experience we have had with Tom French HAS BEEN A COMPLETE DISASTER. IT IS OUR HOPE THAT PEOPLE WILL READ THIS HONEST REVIEW AND AVOID BUILDING A HOME WITH THIS BUILDER SO THAT THEY WILL NOT HAVE TO EXPERIENCE WHAT WE HAVE GONE THROUGH FOR THE PAST SEVEN YEARS.
