Rescue My Gadget

It went beyond well. Having used Rescue My Gadget a few + times previously, I thought that it could be "rescued" by Tom. It was a nightmare for me because I tried to fix it and read so much, about similar issues to no avail. It turned out that the problem was out of the norm but as always, RMG got it back to perfect. Really, I can't say enough positive things about the company. They are excellent techs, responsive, punctual and very competitive. Tom is personable and explains things at whatever level that is appropriate. Thanks as usual!

Tom brought the items necessary to fix my problems making sure my home network was strong enough to extend into my basement so my home theater system could connect properly. He then followed up with me several times via phone and text to make sure everything was working as expected. When I experienced an issue, he was right back again to try another option that got everything working just like I wanted.

Tom is Fantistic! I am a student, so my laptop and software programs are critical. He took my call on a Saturday morning, and while we were setting up an appointment he said, "Let's take a look right now." Of course I said OK! He remotely accessed my system, reassuring me as we went ("It's really not so bad"). Even if it had been worse, his words and manner went a long way toward calming my anxiety. Via remote he searched and worked for quite a while restoring my system. The final downloads were going incredibly slow for some reason, but again he reassured me that it was not an issue. While waiting he answered a few questions about programs and backups that I had. It became apparent the download would be creeping for a while - he asked me to call or text him when it was finished so he would know things went well or he could jump back on the problem. Wonderful customer service! So much better than Microsoft - they just bounced me around the world, and finally told me I didn't need one of the programs I was trying to restore for my classes (Microsoft Office ?) Why call the army when you can call your local David and slay all your giants? I will definitely use his services again.

Made first contact on August 21 (Friday) with Alex who indicated he would call me back on Monday (he was heading to lake). He did not. I called the office the following week and I believe I spoke to Tom this time, he apologized and set an appointment for the next day Tuesday with Alex. Alex never showed; I called and they gave me some story about how they had texted me and changed my appointment but this was impossible for they only had my land line. I believe it was Alex who I spoke to next and he apologized again and set a second appointment on Friday which again Alex never showed. I called Tom who I thought was the owner and he indicated that he would find out what was going on and call me right back. At this time I have never heard from anyone.

He showed up on short notice (I believe it was within 24 hours after we called). Not only did he get rid of the malware; he provided a clear explanation of how it might have happened (clicking on pop-ups for additional software when downloading Open Office, even though Open Office is a legitimate site) and how the malware creators made their money (eventually they get you to call a "Tech Support" line where they take over your computer, install more bad stuff and demand money to fix it). It's been over a week and the computer is still running problem-free, but I noticed that a link for one of the programs that caused us trouble and was removed (Doc2PDF) showed up once in a browsing session. I almost clicked on it thinking it was a link to a PDF of a file I wanted to see. Be careful out there!

Alex came to our house and evaluated computer operations. He cleared over 12000 viruses and that still wasn't enough to return the unit to a satisfactory operating level. He had to take the unit to the shop and when he brought it back it was operating satisfactorily. This young man is the nicest, most professional person I have ever met doing computer repair. We shared lots of info while he was here and shared some stimulating conversations. He was a pleasure to have in my home and acted more like a person than a computer geek. When plan to address the setup here to minimize problems like this from occuring in the future. Alex will be my "go to" computer guy.

The problem: My 90-year-old father in assisted living in Overland Park had BIG computer problems. It was taking more than 20 minutes just to open a browser, and you could go to lunch and return before it would actually perform whatever operation you had asked of it. Dad's virus protection software had been breached and the future of his computer looked bleak. The process: Found "Rescue My Gadget" on Angie's list and bought the $99 special package. They gave me an order # and Tom's phone number and I called him the next morning. We set a date and time for the service call, and I crossed my fingers. Turned out to have been the best purchase I've made this year. The service call: Tom was great with my dad and with Dad's computer. He was able to clean up viruses and malware, uninstall compromised security program and install new one. Then Tom and Dad found that Dad's e-mail password wasn't working either. Tom went the extra mile to reset Dad's password -- working with another relative, since the new code went to him -- as well as creating an e-mail icon. Now all Dad has to do is click on the icon to go straight to his e-mail. The outcome: Tom was professional, polite, knowledgeable, kind, respectful to my Dad, and he got the job done. He worked well with everyone in my family. He communicated with me throughout the process. He is great! I'm relieved and delighted to have found someone trustworthy and reliable, whom I can call upon to fix Dad's computer problems in the future.

He did not appear as scheduled, and did not call. After 30 minutes went by, I called him, he said, "Ohhhhh yeah, I'm running late and didn't have your number." Apparently writing down my number, referencing my voicemail, or going through his cell phone's call history was too much trouble. He offered to come at a later time, I declined.

Tom was really good. Fairly priced and did excellent job.

Great service. Tom gave us some troubleshooting ideas before he even came over. Very professional; superb attention to detail. He spent time going over various options, including the ones that did not include a purchase from his company. We will definitely call him again for any other computer problems we may have in the future.

Tom communicated very well with regard to changes he was making on the computer. He answered my questions in a way that I could understand. The next day there were some issues remaining that I still had trouble with, and he was able to fix these remotely by taking care of the problems without coming to the house.

Everything went well. Tom came over, diagnosed our PC and scheduled a follow up to do the work. He added a bigger drive and cleaned up the remaining drives. He was very prompt and responsive. Will use him again.

Tom was very thorough and gave me a complete description of what he was doing as he worked. He answered all of my questions and didn't seem rushed. He treated me as if I was his most important customer. He worked for more than over 21/2 hours in my home and was able to restore and secure my computer to better than new condition.

We contacted Thomas when a virus infected our laptop computer. He scheduled an appointment for a Sunday morning and arrived right on time. It ended up taking much longer than any of us anticipated to fix the virus. While we waited he even looked at an older laptop and cleaned it up so the sound worked again and ran faster. We were very pleased with the services provided to us and will definitely contacted him again should future problems occur with our computers!

Tom worked on my computer to try to determine why it kept losing the internet connection. He determined the problem was with the brand new laptop, and not with my router, as we originally thought. Because I had just purchased the laptop I elected to return it for a new one-Tom did not charge me for his time and effort. He was really professional and courteous. I will definitely use his services again.

It was a good experience. The technician came out on a holiday which I didn't expect. Furthermore, he was prompt and friendly, did good work, and answered all of my questsions. I really appreciated that he stayed until all of my issues had been resolved and that the costs were stated up front and didn't increase by the hour.

One of the great things about the company is that it makes house calls which is convenient for me since I'm in a wheelchair. Furthermore, they do excellent work for fair prices, and I trust their expertise.

I really enjoy working with Tom. He is very fair and honest with pricing, and I like that he is available to help either by phone or by making a house call. He does really good work, too.
